Using information gleaned from Henry Muhlenberg’s extensive journals and other family papers, the exhibit re-creates a tumultuous year that began with the arrival of Peter’s family - including a new baby and ambitious plans to update the house and its furnishings - and ended with the family patriarch’s death. This loan exhibition features more than 300 objects, including Muhlenberg family portraits, furniture, books, silver, and needlework. Highlights include an inlaid Pennsylvania German schrank made in 1765, a pair of chairs made for Henry Muhlenberg in 1763 by Leonard Kessler of Philadelphia, and a silver sugar urn made for Frederick Muhlenberg by Christian Wiltberger of Philadelphia. East Coast collectors of political buttons, badges, ribbons and related ephemera will meet in Titusville, N.J., on Saturday, April 29, to sell, trade and display memorabilia from campaigns throughout the nation’s history. This 14th annual gathering is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Titusville United Methodist Church. Attendees from multiple states may expect to see a wide variety of political items, ranging from 2016 presidential-campaign buttons promoting candidates Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders to items from former presidents such as Teddy and Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman, Dwight Eisenhower, Ronald Reagan and Barack Obama. The gathering will be hosted by the local chapter of the American Political Items Collectors (APIC) national nonprofit hobbyist association, dedicated to preserving political history.
“Our political memorabilia shows offer a great opportunity for young and old alike to collect buttons and other items from the heated 2016 presidential campaign, not to mention other campaigns - local, state or national - throughout American history,” according to Tony Lee, a Titusville resident and president of APIC’s Big Apple Chapter. “Most political items don’t survive the elections in which they were used, so to see an ‘I Like Ike’ apron or a Ronald Reagan cowboy hat or a clothing button
