Glass Works Ends Final Session Of Bob Ferraro Collection On A High Note Lambertville, N.J., based Glass Works Auction held the third and final session of a mail, phone, and online bidding auction of the Bob Ferraro collection consisting of 43 bottles selling for $187,025. The sale ended Jan. 9. In total, the collection contained 141 bottles and totaled $554,675 for all three sales. Prices reported include a 15 percent buyers premium. This rare bottle in the form of a barrel embossed “Peoples Favorite Bitters / Powell & Stutenroth” sold for $34,500. “It was a small but fabulous collection,” said Jim Hagenbuch, Glass Works owner. “Collections this small in size with this caliber of bottles are very rare, with one coming on the market every 10 years or so. It took Bob 45 years to assemble this one,” said Hagenbuch. The “W & Co / N.Y.” embossed bottle in the form of a pineapple sold for $19,550. The highest price lot in the last session, and in the entire collection, was lot 114. A rare bottle in the form of a barrel embossed “Peoples Favorite Bitters / Powell & Stutenroth,” it sold for $34,500. “It is one of only three or four known examples and highly

desirable,” exclaimed Hagenbuch. “Bob acquired this one from us in 1996, when we auctioned bottles from the Carlyn Ring collection.” Tying for the second highest price paid in the auction was lot 115, a “W & Co / N.Y.” embossed bottle in the form of a pineapple, which sold for $19,550. “In this particular form - color means everything,” said Hagenbuch. “Bob loved the form and had eight different colors.” Also selling for $19,550 was lot 121, embossed “Seaworth Bitters Co / Cape May New Jersey,” and in the form of a lighthouse. “Quite a rarity, and identical in form to the present Cape May, New Jersey, lighthouse that was built in 1859 and remains in operation today,” said Hagenbuch. Lot 107, a “Highland Bitters & Scotch Tonic” embossed bottle also in the shape of a barrel, sold for $14,950. “A scarce bottle when found in amber, but very rare in this more desirable green color,” according to Hagenbuch. Coming in at number five on the highest prices realized list was lot 99, a “Brown’s Celebrated Indian Herd Bitters” in the form of an Indian

The 48th biannual edition of the quality country show simply referred to as the Elverson Antiques Show will be held on Saturday and Sunday, March 11 and 12. The show takes place at Twin Valley High School, located at 4897 N. Twin Valley Road in Elverson, Pa., just east of Adamstown. Show hours will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Admission will be $6 or $5 with a show card. To receive a show card, call 610-721-2874.

Special things always come out at this buyable show, which is very popular with dealers and collectors throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania. It used to be held the same weekend as the Antiques at Kimberton show but will fall on the weekend prior. Antiques at Kimberton will take place on Saturday and Sunday, March 18 and 19, at the Kimberton Fire Company and Fairgrounds in Phoenixville, Pa. This Paul Evans cabinet sold for $382,000. It is a new auction record for the maker. Rago Arts and Auction Center’s Design Auction on Jan. 21 and 22 realized $5,023,831. The auction’s top lot, a unique and important cabinet by Paul Evans, sold for $382,000, setting a new auction record for the Delaware Valley Modernist. Also of note, the single owner sale, “The Collection of Dr. Martin Eidelberg,”
