The Pennsylvania Auctioneers Association Holds Successful 67th Annual Conference And Show 300 N early apprentices,

auctioneers, auction students, support personnel, vendors, presenters, and guests attended and participated in the 67th annual conference and trade show of the Pennsylvania Auctioneers Association (PAA) on Jan. 13 through 16 at the Sheraton Harrisburg-Hershey. The 2014 PAA president Mark L. Ferry of Latrobe, Westmoreland County, described the event as a huge success, and

all who attended the event left with valuable information to guide them in their businesses. The 2015 PAA conference chair Patrick K. Morgan of New Holland, Lancaster County, noted that during the 67th annual conference it was a great pleasure to have so many returning, as well as first-time attendees, taking the opportunity to enhance and build their auction business and knowledge. He noted that there were more vendors than ever before, bringing the best technology, tools,

equipment, and marketing available in today’s advanced and competitive market place. Conference participants had a choice of 19 educational seminars during the course of the event. Individuals learned skills that will allow them to better serve their buyers and sellers. Continuing education units were available to auctioneers to maintain advanced auctioneer certifications or auctioneer licenses held in other states requiring education. Morgan stated that the PAA hosted a wide range of diverse seminars by various industry leaders, including the National Auctioneers Association president Tom Saturley, past president of the National Auto Auction Association Charlotte Pyle, and representatives from the PA Game Commission, as well as attorney George Michak, Dr. Fredrick J. Sylvester, Russ Hilk, Greg Magnus, Bob Lucas, Larry Harb, Bruce Bazelon, Dr. N. Sanford Good, George Howley, and others. Also, a first-time-ever free early bird seminar was held the evening of Jan. 13, which featured C. The PAA’s keynote speaker was nationally recognized David Barton, “America’s Historian.” Attendees enjoyed a presentation titled “American Exceptionalism.” Several Pennsylvania auctioneers came up winners during the 2015 PA Auctioneer Competition. Jeffery T. Pennington of New Castle, Lawrence County, garnered the prestigious “Pennsylvania Auctioneer Champion” award on Jan. 14 at the Pennsylvania State Farm Show, the largest indoor agricultural exhibition in the nation. He competed against 22 other auctioneers in a competition to be the best bid caller and auctioneer in the state, as well as for the top prize of cash, a prestigious silver trophy, and paid registration to the International Auctioneer The Pennsylvania Auctioneers Championship set for July 2015 in

Addison, Texas. The runner-up in the competition was Michael F. Dilliard of Centre Hall, Centre County. The PAA also named a “Rookie Auctioneer Champion,” an individual who has been licensed as an auctioneer for less than two years. This honor was bestowed on Nolan Richard Bell of Beaver Falls, Beaver County. The auctioneers were judged by a panel of eight judges on their bid calling ability, overall presentation, speech, appearance, and salesmanship. For

the second year, the judging panel implemented judging software, which was created especially for the PAA by Montgomery County specialist Alan Impink. A portion of the proceeds from the contest and benefit auction went to the Farm Show Scholarship Fund to support students entering the agricultural field.
