Antica Posta Chef Alessandro Betti: A Brief Biography Chef Alessandro Betti, also known as Sandro, started his culinary career with his older brothers, Marco and Gianni. As a family of hardworking achievers, they dreamed of opening a prosperous restaurant dedicated to providing top-quality Italian cuisine to customers. Growing up working in his parents’ butcher shop with his older brothers in Reggello, Italy, he became familiar with various types of meats. The three brothers opened their first fine dining establishment, Fattoria Degli Usignoli, in their family’s hometown. But after two years of success, the owner of the restaurant’s location was not willing to renew the lease. With determination and perseverance, Sandro continued on his quest for culinary knowledge. He began working at a restaurant in Florence, which was widely regarded for their expertise in Tuscan cuisine. While working in Florence, Sandro enhanced his skills in the kitchen as he learned how to make authentic Italian staples from scratch such as pasta and pizza, and acquired the ability to grill and sauté to perfection. When he reunited his brothers after four years, they opened the first Antica Posta in Florence, which soon became one of the most highly regarded restaurants in the country. In 1999, Sandro’s brother Marco moved to Atlanta, Georgia in hopes of opening up an Antica Posta restaurant in the United States. Eager to be a part of the expanding business the brothers had built together, Sandro joined his brother nine months after the restaurant opened and became the establishment’s Executive Chef. Under his management, the Atlanta Magazine presented Antica Posta with the title of “Best Italian Restaurant” two years in a row and has a four-star rating in the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
