The City Aetherus is my undergraduate B.Arch Thesis project that was developed for over a year. My thesis is that we can use architectural, morphological form to lessen energy use at an urban scale. Humanity has always designed cities to fit OUR needs and with little to no consideration as to how it may affect our natural environment and especially without considering how much (electrical) energy it takes to maintain our buildings. Our global urbanization is imminent as our cities are projected to hold 75% of the human population by 2050. Therefore, we need to think of how we can sustainably urbanize in the years soon to come. This thesis proposes a design methodology that has been formulated and exercised over 4 cities across the world; representative of 4 different climates; 4 different urban fabrics; and acts as a guide to how we can design morphological form at an urban scale so that buildings can be more efficient.
