NEW BRIGHTON Day of the Dead Festival

1st & 2nd November 2025
A Colorful Celebration of Life and Memory
“Día de los Muertos”, is a joyful and meaningful tradition that originated in ancient Mesoamerican cultures and was later influenced by Spanish Catholic practices. Celebrated on November 1st (All Saints' Day) and November 2nd (All Souls' Day),
It is a time when families welcome the spirits of deceased loved ones back to the world of the living with offerings, music, food, and remembrance.
Now celebrated in many parts of the world—including here in the UK, Latin America, and parts of Europe— this holiday resonates globally as a way to honour ancestors and celebrate life.
Communities engage in colorful parades, traditional dances, and the creation of elaborate ofrendas (altars) decorated with marigolds, candles, photos, and favorite foods of the departed.
Sugar skulls (calaveras), face painting, and skeletonthemed costumes add a playful and artistic element, especially for children.
The Day of the Dead fosters a deep sense of community, brings families together, and helps people process grief in a positive, communal way.
It encourages storytelling, cultural pride, and laughter, making it both a time of remembrance and a lively celebration filled with music, food, and fun.
