WHAT IS A
DRY FARMED
TOMATO? Not all Tomatoes are the same
The Organic Dry Farmed Technique Dry farming is a farming method where all irrigation is cut off once plants have become established. Because of the torrential rains in the winter, and the bone-dry summers, the California climate naturally allows for this method. The lack of water stresses the plant and forces its roots deep into the soil, often more than 5 feet, to seek out water. The plants subsequently absorb water and nutrients slower than conventionally grown tomatoes, leading to a smaller, more richly flavored fruit. (Dry farmed tomatoes are always grown organically.) The dry farmed tomato has a dense flavor without the excess juice that results from more frequent irrigation.
