NATIONAL POLICE WEEK
National Police Week was introduced in 1962, when President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week. During National Police Week, the Matawan Police Department honors those who serve their communities through law enforcement and pays tribute to the officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others. Each year during the month of May, thousands of officers and observers gather at the National Mall in Washington, D.C. to recognize the law enforcement officers across the U.S. who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. Departments throughout the nation mark this week with various memorials and events. This year, National Police Week runs from Sunday, May 14th to Saturday, May 20th. Leading up to this week, we will be holding our Coffee with a Cop event on Saturday, May 6th from 10:00am to 1:00pm at Starbucks located in Main Street Village Center (265 Main Street, Matawan). Come meet and join your Matawan Police Officers for a cup of coffee and conversation!
