The Borough of Matawan hosted its 1st Memorial Day Parade on May 29, 1959 and 64 years later is still holding its Parade on Main Street. This year’s 2023 Parade is Monday, May 29th at 11 AM. With Main Street decorated in red, white and blue; the Borough respects the tradition of its Annual Parade and invites the community to share this special day either by marching or coming out to watch. Matawan looks to honor the brave men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice in service to their Country. Every year the Recreation Commission nominates a Matawan resident to lead the Parade. This year, the distinct honors are presented to Retired Captain Irv Nusbaum our Grand Marshall and Mr. Ralph Evans our Special Guest of Honor.

Mr. Nusbaum was drafted on April 10th, 1953. He received basic training at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland. During his tour of duty, Mr. Nusbaum worked as a tank mechanic. He was part of the Korean conflict and was also stationed in France.
Mr. Evans enlisted and served between 1966-1969. He was stationed at Fort Dix where he received basic training and then was taught special skills at radio school at Fort Monmouth. After his radio training, Mr. Evans was deployed to Vietnam and
