ANSON PRIMARY SCHOOL

A happy, confident and creative school where children develop a lifelong love of learning.

A message from Mr Pile

I am very pleased to welcome you and your child to Anson Primary School. At Anson Primary School we aim to ensure that all children have a successful, enjoyable and rewarding time. We are committed to giving the children every opportunity to develop into independent, resourceful and caring individuals.

Education is a partnership between school and home and we see your cooperation and support as vital in ensuring that the children gain the maximum benefit from their time here.

Children are continually challenged to attain higher standards so it is important that expectations are high, both academically and personally. Through a range of teaching styles, the staff foster a positive atmosphere of mutual respect and trust to create an environment where pupils feel safe and valued individuals. In this way we hope that they will develop self-motivation and a sense of personal worth.

Our success both within the school and the wider community is recognised through the various awards that we have gained, the achievements of the children and the links that we have throughout the country and abroad. Our primary objective is to educate your child and we are pleased that our Ofsted Reports recognise that there is a ‘high level of challenge in lessons’. On top of this we encourage collaboration. communication and creativity in our school.

I hope that the following pages will provide all the information you require, and give you an insight into how we ensure happy, confident and creative children leave Anson with a lifelong love of learning. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to a happy, productive relationship between the school, parents and children in the years to come.

Our curriculum intent puts the pupils at the centre of the our school community where positive relationships, based on mutual trust and respect are at the heart of everything we do.

Our curriculum has been designed to take account of the legal requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and the Primary National Curriculum.

The children take part in a curriculum designed to give them equal access and equal opportunities regardless of their background. It exposes the children to enriching experiences across the curriculum, inside and outside school, providing access to real world opportunities.

Through shared experiences, collaboration, creativity and a nurturing environment, the children are equipped with the personal characteristics to succeed in life. The creative and performing arts are pivotal to our curriculum delivery which is underpinned by six learning behaviours. These are:

• Aspiration

• Resilience

• Risk Taking

• Thinking

• Independence

• Collaboration

The vibrant experiences allow each of the pupils to express themselves, grow in confidence and show their individuality. This is complemented by our use of technology across the curriculum to give children a voice, an audience for their work and celebrate their achievements.

The key principles behind this intent include:

• to be confident, independent and resilient displaying a thirst for learning

• to be kind, showing empathy and compassion for all other children

• to be achievers, ambitiously looking to achieve across every subject in the curriculum

• to be cultural, embracing the diversity in the school, the community and including everyone in their life choices

• to have aspiration, knowing what the future can offer and that their dreams can be achieved with hard work and determination

The curriculum at Anson supports a diverse population of individuals who feel that their unique qualities can make a contribution to the world they live in.

Our intent is to ensure that they have the best opportunity to fulfil these goals.

AN INCLUSIVE SCHOOL

At Anson Primary School we operate an inclusive policy.

This means that all children are welcome to attend Anson Primary School. If our setting is one that can support your child’s development then we will do all we can to act as a champion for your child.

We will also actively champion for those children who may need an alternative setting which will fit their needs. We are an experienced school who work with parents, from day one, to ensure all pupils are in the best position to learn.

Parents are encouraged to be part of the school life. The senior leaders welcome every child into school each morning and engage with parents to catch issues when they are tiny.

As an open school, if you wish to see Mr. Pile or a member of staff then an appointment is helpful but not essential. Do feel free to come in to school to discuss any issues or concerns, however small they may seem to you. What is small to you could be huge to your child. We prefer to deal with issues in their infancy before they have a chance to grow.

ADMISSIONS

join us. Having a Nursery place does not guarantee a place for the coming year in the Reception at Anson. You will have to apply again for a Reception place with Brent, later in the year.

SECONDARY PLACES

By the end of October all parents of children in Year 6 must apply for a place at secondary school. Many of the local schools host open evenings for parents.

ADMISSIONS

As a school which values the use of technology to enhance teaching and learning, we are also aware of the increased risk to young people by immersing them in an online world.

The school works in partnership with parents to support children in every way possible. The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the safety and welfare of children and expect all parents, staff governors and volunteers to share this commitment. If any of the staff at school have concerns that children have been abused, we are required by the Brent Child Protection procedures to inform social services.

In order to continually safeguard all children every member of staff receives training in safeguarding and online safety. We use the Cpoms platform to record all incidents of issues affecting children from low-level disruption to significant events which impact on families outside school. This ensure that no child falls through the net where safeguarding is concerned.

We work with Childnet to develop Digital Leaders and are an accredited school on the National Online Safety platform. This allows us to support staff and parents with up to date information on new online games, apps and website.

Our parents are expected to deliver on our parent pledge which ensures we work together so that any online behaviour which impacts negatively on anyone else in our school community is not tolerated.

PARENTAL PARTNERSHIP

We work hard to welcome all parents and provide support and friendship when you need it.

Our Friends of Anson group is the parent and staff association at Anson. The membership is made up of every parent at Anson. While a core group of parents meet with the Headteacher and staff each month to plan out events for the pupils, we also encourage all parents to attend all our events so we can be part of the plan to keep improving our offer at Anson together.

Indeed, the partnership between the school and the parent is so important that we look for as many ways as possible to make connections.

Newsletters, text messages, Seesaw, face-to-face meetings, Open Classrooms, assemblies, parent’s evenings, school reports and playground interactions are all part of our work in making sure we have excellent partnerships with each and every parent at Anson. It all supports your child’s development.

BEHAVIOUR

At Anson we believe that children are happier and more secure in a calm and well disciplined environment. We ensure that the children are aware of the consequences of their actions through discussion, and so gain con and promote self-discipline.

As the children grow we aim to help them to develop a sense of responsibility for themselves and others and ultimately apply discipline that is self-motivated.

The teachers and children have united in building the Going for Gold reward system. There are six Golden Rules which the children must follow daily:

We are kind

We work hard

We are gentle

We listen to people

We look after property

We are honest

We are very proud of the manner in which the children conduct themselves and we have a comprehensive system of rewards to encourage this. We celebrate the children’s achievement of good behaviour through reward assemblies. Along with parents, we work to teach children appropriate discipline.

The school has a Discipline Policy and any cases of repeatedly poor behaviour will be dealt with in line with the policy. Persistent inappropriate bad behaviour is always discussed with parents in order to agree an e to resolve the problem.

ATTENDANCE

Anson has ambitious targets of 100% attendance for all pupils. Our attendance is regularly better than schools locally and nationally and we seek to maintain this level of attendance.

There is a direct link between the success of children in school, academically, and the rate of attend

All unauthorised absences will be entered as such in the class registers. For this reason we must receive an absence note for every period of absence. This means all parents should call the office with a reason for an absence. If absence levels increase, written proof from a GP may be required.

It is essential for your child’s education that absences are kept to a minimum. The school will not authorise any family holidays during term time and will refer parents to the Local Authority for such absences. This may result in a fixed penalty notice to parents. Government legislation states that, if it is essential, parents may apply to the Governing Body of the school for permission to take their children out of school for an exceptional circumstance during any academic year.

Illness

If your child is ill during the night or morning prior to a school day, please keep your child at home. It can cause distress to the child to be ill at school. Inform the school as soon as possible of any infectious disease.

Head lice checks are no longer provided by the school health service. Please check all your family’s heads regularly. Remember that head lice love clean hair. If a member of your family has head lice, please let us know. Children may return to school when they have been treated. If you are in any doubt about what to do, contact your doctor or the school office.

We have all seen the devastating impact of COVID-19 on the education system and wider society. Please keep up to date with the latest Government guidance so that we can keep the spread of all infectious diseases and viruses to a minimum and protect our whole community.

ATTENDANCE

Anson Primary School does not have a school uniform. It is therefore the responsibility of parents to ensure that children come to school in clean and appropriate ops or backless sandals are not allowed for health and safety reasons. Inappropriate logos on tshirts are not acceptable. Children should be comfortable in the clothes they wear and dress appropriately for the weather.

Anson rain jackets are available to purchase termly through the School Gateway app.

Teachers cannot remove, or be held responsible for, jewellery. If a parent insists that their child wear jewellery, for religious reasons, for either of these lessons, a written letter must be signed by the parent. We would prefer that the children not wear jewellery at all since they get upset if it is lost or
