ANSA is the only pre-processor capable of increasing the efficiency of the detailed FE-modeling for Durability, as it provides a variety of features suitable for demanding engineering tasks that exceed the requirements of today's Industry.

ANSA efficiently supports popular codes such as Abaqus/Standard, ANSYS Mechanical, NASTRAN and PERMAS. The ANSA interoperable pre-processing decks comprise a complete pre-processing environment that accommodates a wide range of functionality, integrated with the advanced main features for meshing, batch meshing, morphing, coupling with optimizers etc. Being also integrated with the Task Manager and the Data Manager, they grant unique efficiency and repeatability during the build-up, update and export of multiple high-quality models.

ANSA offers a versatile overview of the model components and their changes, through numerous navigation methods, as per parts, per Include file or per keyword. Further more, an automatic control of model part representations is offered, even for multiinstantiated parts.

Model composition management using Include Files is assisted by a tree-like navigator, while keyword ID's management is fully controlled by the Renumber Tool that covers any possible numbering rules scenario.

The comparison tool, on parts or subassemblies level, facilitates decision making and application of model updates, while keeping the model's integrity intact with the re-application of connections, boundary conditions, re-distribution of masses etc.

Numerous semi- and fully-automatic tools are available for the creation of welding models, based on defintions made within the software or on information imported by PDM systems.

Multiple connections types definitions are completed with a single step upon the model by the Connections Manager, achieving: ! wide variety of weld definition types for spots welds, adhesives, bolts or seam lines, ! proper element definition with controllable quality, ! detection & improvement of improper connections information.

As fatigue solvers have special modeling requirements for the simulation of phenomena like crack initiation and propagation around welds, ANSA generates connection information according to the specifications of Fatigue solvers such as FE-Fatigue and FEMFAT.

Load case definition ANSA provides wizard-like assistants that accomplish complicated tasks, requiring minimum effort. Such features facilitate the definition of boundary conditions and mass trimming, granting an additional advantage: such data can be imported from an ASCII sheet or any other format using ANSA scripts.

Contacts management

The contact detecting feature guides the definition of contact interfaces of areas of interest, with a preview and simple interaction. The massive modifications capability allows the fast modification of the properties of already existing contact models.

Task manager Results of previous simulations, such as of a multi-body kinematic analysis or of a transient response calculation, may act as boundary conditions for Durability load cases. Using the ANSA scripting language, simulation results can be imported and interpreted as boundary conditions, as the introduced Boundary Conditions items apply all loads using parameterized template files.

While the whole process is driven by the Task Manager, all the above steps appear as distinct model creation stages, in a treelike view. Multiple load cases can be defined in a single action by exploiting templates.

Cross section tool The Cross Section tool calculates the properties of arbitrary shaped cross-sections, using the Boundary Element Method. The tool also can design and even contribute to the improvement of such sections by showing the shape's weak points.

The calculated section properties populate solver keywords of multiple types, including NASTRAN PBMSECT and PBRSECT. This enables the fast deployment of an FE-model still from the early concept design phases. Also allows the FEmodels DOFs reduction at later stages.

NASTRAN SOL 200 & SOL 600 ANSA supports the required keywords for the definition of NASTRAN SOL 200 cases for property, material or shape optimization, through advanced tools. Notably, once of these enables the engineer to link design variable of automatically recognized symmetrical parts. The complete optimization scenario can be clearly revealed with a quick view to the Database Browser. Further more, simple modification actions can massively affect the design variables of the related optimization parameters.

ANSA also supports SOL 600 keywords, including the BCPARA and BCONTACT keywords.

Abaqus Substructuring The Abaqus Substructure Step and the respective keywords required for such an analysis are fully supported. A strategic feature is the Substructure Generator tool, which meeting the requirements of the analysts, offers the capability to easily and correctly isolate the area of interest and exports, in one step: ! the structure for which the equivalent stiffness matrices has to be calculated and ! the part of the model that remains as a full FErepresentation, and is connected to the substructured one through the reference to a library file generated by Abaqus.

Quality checks & improvements Based on solvers’ quality criteria and thresholds, ANSA provides a wide range of checks and improvement algorithms for the models quality and integrity. Dependency issues, improper Contact & Tie definitions, poor element quality or loose parts are recognized and reported. Most of these issues are solved in an automatic manner.

Detailed mass information is calculated and reported, always in full compliance with the solver.

ANSA scripting language can be employed for the further definition of custom quality checks and fixes.

µETA is a highly sophisticated yet user friendly post-processor. Through its continuous development it has succeeded in meeting the ever increasing demand for a powerful and efficient post-processor. µETA supports results from all popular static and fatigue analysis solvers as well as real-life test data and can even be integrated in optimization processes.

Taking advantage of the unique window configuration options, top quality 3D graphics and high performance in general as well as the ease of handling multiple models, data analysis is more efficient than ever.

Results calculation Addressing specific needs of durability and fatigue analysis, µETA features a calculator for the linear combination of results deriving from unit loadcases. This calculator is accessed through a user friendly interface and can also be fed with load history curves to provide the history of the linearly combined stress field.

Similarly, new datasets can be created by applying any mathematical operation on existing results thus enabling for the calculation of variables which do not originally exist in the results file. Finally, resultants for free body loads and other types of loads can be calculated and even be output in solver's format so as to be input back in ANSA for conducting sub-modeling.

Model & connections management Smart and intuitive main functionality with numerous options succeeds in managing and manipulating the model at the expense of the least time and effort. A complete groups tool advances model handling capabilities to a high level through a tree structure hierarchy. On top of that, spotwelds can also be represented and managed or updated easily as groups, hence their post-processing, becomes an easy task.

Hot spots identification & communication of results µETA has versatile filter capabilities incorporated in many of its tools. Filters can be used alone or combined based on results, names, position, regions and many other criteria to identify, isolate or pin-point areas of interest (hot spots). An overview of these areas' results is achieved through statistics tables with spreadsheet functionality. These tables also provide an efficient means for fast comparison of results from different iterations. Runtime annotations that trace key areas of the model and easy-tocreate reports in html, PostScript or MS Office PowerPoint .pptx format, further boost communication of results.

2Dplots An integrated powerful graph tool enables the plotting of timehistories as well as of results along a line-path. Direct correlation of simulation and experimental data both in the 3D and the 2D fields is significantly simplified and accelerated without the need to start a separate software. Plotted data can be sourced either from the 3D model directly or can be imported from a wide range of time history files, including .iso and .unv format. Trough the wide array of tools, curves can be traced in relation to the 3D model (subcase after subcase), compared, mathematically manipulated and annotated.

Output options Model data as well as other post-processing information is stored in µETA native binary files which can also be viewed with a license-free viewer. Among other outputs, deformed geometry, cross sections and iso-contours can be exported in solver’s format.

Automation Post-processing for durability and fatigue analysis is greatly assisted by parameterized sessions and scripts which provide the grounds for the automation of long and complicated procedures, even including the calculation of new variables, thus boosting productivity and assuring the quality of final report.
