FOREWORD This is the fifth edition of Jamieson Smith’s company update, giving you an insight into our latest original and creative projects. Over the past few months we have been very active, with work carried out for many new prestigious clients, keen to utilise our skills and creativity. Among these household names are The Conran Shop, Fiorelli and Weight Watchers, all of whom chose Jamieson Smith for our quality, attention to detail and fresh, contemporary ideas. We are working closely with Starbucks and its licensees on the conversion of former Little Chef sites, drive-throughs, new sites and refurbishments. Although we have been thrilled to be chosen by these larger clients, Jamieson Smith is also keen to continue to work with smaller companies and organisations and as such is currently undertaking the design of Mount Edgecumbe Hospice in St Austell. Local projects include designs for TJ`s restaurant in Torquay and Zena`s restaurant in Barnstaple. Jamieson Smith’s work in the leisure industry has continued to increase apace, with refurbishment work at Ivybridge Leisure Centre for Tone Leisure, a luxury leisure complex in Blackburn, and North Devon Leisure Centre’s Swimming Pool and Changing Village among others choosing us to carry out design and refurbishments of their facilities. We would also like to thank our existing clients whom we continue to work closely with as they update and modernise their interiors. Take a look at our website – www.jamieson-smith.co.uk to see the depth of work we undertake and some of the unique skills we use.

Barkers, Café & Bistro 1882 Last year we were chosen by department store Barkers of Northallerton to double the size of its cosmetics hall and create an additional entrance to the store. The result has been so successful that we were asked to redesign the store’s 1150 sq ft, 46 cover café and 1600 sq ft, 82 cover licensed bistro. A ‘vintage modern’ style was chosen, a combination of traditional themes with bold, contemporary flair. Classic design was offset with kitsch-retro vibrancy in bright jewel-like coloured upholstery, reflected in the lighting and graphical wallpaper used. Individual domestic themes were also incorporated into different areas of the design including a conservatory, sewing room and library setting it apart from other establishments. The space will be used as a vehicle to showcase work from local artists, enabling artwork to be changed regularly with new work providing a fresh and exciting feel. “As well as designing and fitting out our new 1882 Cafe and Bistro, the specialist graphics team at Jamieson Smith was able to come up with a great service for all our signage, menus, and packaging “ Charles Barker, Managing Director

Browns, Gainsborough Following the successful design and interior fit-outs of renowned independent department store Browns’ York and Beverley sites, we were appointed to design and build Browns’ latest acquisition in Gainsborough. An arched exterior façade is echoed on the interior with three large arches alongside the original pitched roof and high bay lighting. Large scale graphic walls complement the scale of the building and add colour and vibrancy to window and mannequin displays on the mezzanine level. The 10,000 sq ft store incorporates cosmetics, fragrance, accessories, shoes, menswear and womenswear with designer brands including Tommy Hilfiger, Ted Baker, Gant, White Stuff and Phase Eight with each department retaining its individual style. “Browns has used Jamieson Smith on several occasions across our stores and each time the refits have proved extremely successful. Design briefs are carefully adhered to with the finished project enhancing the experience and layout as well as boosting trade.” Nicholas Brown, Managing Director

The Conran Shop Jamieson Smith Associates was appointed to update the formal and casual dining and cookwares’ department for The Conran Shop’s flagship store in Fulham Road, Chelsea. We designed a timeless, classical English concept for the prestigious store, famed for its stylishly designed homewares. Simple bench style characteristics were incorporated, with features including a mix of traditional timber on a metal framework for formal and casual china providing a contemporary take on a Welsh dresser style while a stylish pantry idea was chosen to house china, mugs and plates stacked high behind slim, metal framed doors. White marble worktops, white oak shelves, and muted greys show off the products on display to their optimum and a homely environment was created by linking kitchen and dining settings. “The Jamieson Smith team devised some classic yet stylish ideas and we are extremely pleased with the result. The design service was excellent and every part of the brief was addressed. The attention to detail was impeccable and installation was executed perfectly and on time. I found the whole team very professional to work with; they made the journey of design through to fabrication and installation a very refreshing experience.” Betsy Smith, Head of Visual Merchandising

Barbours, Young Fashion Our relationship with Barbours has continued with the design and build of the store’s Young Fashion department. The brief was to enhance the existing ambience and maximise the lines of vision through the Cosmetic and Fragrance department main entrance. The Young Fashion area is based on a vintage, shabby chic style with an explosion of pattern, colour and textures. Striking floral vinyls have been applied to the walls; sky lights have been retained and enhanced with a decorative motif and traditional standard lamps are used as a circular table feature. A central circular cash desk with a vintage motif completes the look. “Jamieson Smith has again designed a striking unique department for our Young Fashion department, which has been very well received and has given a good increase in sales and footfall within the store” Colin Barbour, Director

OSPREY HOME Our latest project for OSPREY LONDON, has been the completion of the company’s flagship store at the Hyde, St Albans. The contemporary lifestyle store will retail gifts for men and women, jewellery and furniture. The look is a modern take on the English dresser unit, with all units painted in antique white with tongue and groove walls and a slate floor. “OSPREY LONDON has enjoyed a long relationship with Jamieson Smith. The company offers the type of personal service that we find essential.” Graeme Ellisdon, Managing Director

North Devon Leisure Centre Parkwood Leisure, an existing client of ours, asked us to redesign and build the North Devon Leisure Centre’s Swimming Pool and Changing Village to create a bright, welcoming space. The design layout includes designated large family changing areas, open plan showers, a team changing area and state-of-the-art accessible changing facilities. The overhaul extended to the pool area, with new surround tiling, redecoration and ceiling plus renovation of the health spa. Our responsibility on the project encompassed specification and design of fixtures, sanitaryware, tiling, ceilings, lighting, signage and ironmongery. “North Devon Council is delighted with the new layout and finishes in the changing village and pool hall at North Devon Leisure Centre. The design team was asked to give our 1970’s facilities a bright, airy and modern feel and this was certainly achieved. Jamieson Smith Associates proved to be a highly efficient and professional contractor and I would have no hesitation in recommending them.” Mark Kentell, North Devon District Council

Starbucks Following our appointment as an approved contractor for Starbucks Coffee Company in November, we are now working directly with Starbucks and its licensees which include Eurogarages, known for its innovative approach to forecourt trading. The company was founded in 2001 and now employs more than 1000 staff across its sites in the North of England and the Midlands. We have successfully completed three new drive-throughs and two refurbishments, and are currently working on converting a number of Little Chef’s to Starbucks. On all projects we are responsible for the full interior fit out package, including coordination and management of direct suppliers and subcontractors. “We found Jamieson Smith Associates to be a very competent and a friendly company to work with. Standards of workmanship are to be commended and the projects handled for us are always handed over on time and to budget. I would certainly recommend them.” Junaid Manjra, Franchise Operations Manager

Branding From brand identity to signage, to graphics and websites to large format retail displays, our designers appreciate the importance of understanding our clients’ goals and what they aim to achieve. We look at the market place, competition, and customer profile and recognise that an exclusive identity and supporting graphic communication on every level is essential to complete the whole brand experience.

Orvis We have successfully completed our first full store design and fit-out for new client Orvis, an American owned retail and mail-order business specialising in high-end fly fishing, hunting and sporting goods. The project encompassed the relocation of Orvis’ Farnham store to a larger 2000 sq ft space which gave the perfect opportunity to incorporate a contemporary store design with clean lines of tongue and groove panelling chosen to complement the traditional sporting brand. Quirky accents include crate boot displays and fitting rooms with fish wallpaper. The specialist Fly Fishing Area has been designed to house the famous Orvis rods, reels and flies and the scheme utilises the company’s eye-catching corporate graphics to stunning effect, whilst embracing the company’s American sporting heritage. “Jamieson Smith offers a full one stop shop solution to store design and build; starting with clear understanding of the client’s requirements, elegant but practical design, the ability to adapt as concepts or budgets change and a build quality of the highest standards. I value the fact that they can be relied upon to deliver on time and on budget.” Michael Sayers, Managing Director (UK)
