The project goal is to design a hybrid working space, considering the contemporary working environment and post pandemic needs. The primary business of the office will be a center for sustainable strategies, research and design solutions. This project aims to continue the vocabulary of Lever House and to create a flexible work space that respond to the function of each events by developing a pin-up room system for enclave discussion space and at the same time also serve as public exposition and pin-up space with acoustic and sustainable materials.

Speaking to client’s needs, the main idea is to design a removable, transportable and prefabricated pin-up wall panels system, which could become enclave rooms, social space and open offices and at the same time serve as a functional community engaging tool for activating discussion. The system uses sustainable cork material, which is light weighted, resilient, durable and works well for sound proofing.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Ahlefeldtsgade

The project aims to create a food culture house in inner city, which serves as a social project that can build bridges between people and different food cultures. The space can be booked by different organizations, schools and private people and encompass a huge level of flexibility and accessibility as the users will be young children, elderly people and everyone inbetween, representing different cooking traditions. The existing site is located adjacent to a skate park while the accesses at both ends are in-between tall buildings making the building somehow hidden in the area.To further drawn people in the space and to continue the urban thresholds, the project focuses on creating an indooroutdoor space and an urban threshold that allow people gather together; also, welcome and lead the community into the space.

The building includes cooking facilities, shared kitchens and space for communal dining and food markets for the community as well as functions as a public library and a private publishing house. The green house located on the first floor showcases the local food culture by demonstrating the growing ingredients. The space also functions as grocery store or holds food culture classes.

While the first floor serves as the main food culture space for the public, the second floor is designed to be more private to include a library space and a publishing house as well as private offices for publishing house, also a test kitchen and storage area for kitchen staff, which located toward the end of the building.

The wall defining the shared kitchen and facility space is made of glass to allow interactions with the community, which gives people the opportunity to understand the different food culture and cooking traditions. The library steps are semi-outdoor, which also serves as a transitional space to accommodate book events and access between the two floors with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves facing toward the skate park and visible to the public.

The colors used in the space are inspired by the graffiti on site, which in a way speaks to the site itself and the local community by reflecting the colors back into the building. This color theory also connects to the urban threshold idea to guide and attract people into the food culture house.

SILOS

Pratt Institute sound museum project | 2022 SITE INFORMATION

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

To explore the relationship between interior architecture and sound, the project goal is to design a museum of sound that will accommodate lines of performance, exhibition, both individual and group interactions. The space includes a series of sound galleries for selected sound installations/artists as well as performance/lecture hall space, a black box theater, listening rooms and a sound library. This project, Silos, is inspired by the Pendulum music piece from Steve Reich and the Sonic Tubes sound device created by Yunyu Lai and Vidhi Thakkar. The rhythmic repetitive loops of the soundscape and the impromptu but scale-determined form of sound within simple sound containers.

The project aims to create sonic silos that can contain the sound, transport the sound and activate the sound. To do so, honoring the columns on the site, the existing columns define the sonic silos and become intimate sonic spaces. Between the silos becomes the resonating gap of sound.

The sound library is adjacent to the two listening rooms with metal floor trims as a way to define each zone. Curtains are used in the space to provide acoustics to minimize any distracting noise Concrete floor with metal grid trims between spaces. Carpet flooring, felt wallcoverings and fabric seating in the listening rooms are to provide a sense of comfortnesss and the value of soundproofing. The sound cafe is located on the first level of the sound museum. With doubleheight ceiling, a sound installation of Studio Weave: Lullaby Factory is installed on the walls between the Studiowhich Studio Weave Weave floor with metal grid trims upper-floor sound galleries,Concrete gives the visitors an opportunity to be mesmerizing in the soundscape while interacting with others in the space.

A retail interior remodel project for Greenline Organic Health.

Participated from SD, DD to CD phase, I worked with the client closely and was able to understand client’s needs to create a lively and sincere environment, which serves as a retail shop and a juice bar. I was responsible for the branding/graphic design and millwork design for the display and bar area; also, for producing all the drawings including the design drawings, shop drawings, specifications, the building permit and food permit submittals.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The project is a proposed 42-story mixed-use retail and multiresidential high-rise building located in downtown Seattle area.

To make harmony to the two existing historic buildings on site, our tower design aims for a compatible but differentiate massing.

Our design imspirations came from Seattle’s original high-rises, the stacking of drying lumbers and Seattle’s maritime heritage, the Sooner Exact. I was responsible for the podium design and all the drawings, modeling and renderings for ARC meetinggs and Landmark board meetings.

University of Washington Storefront Studio | 2017 CLIENT

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The storefront studio is an outreach program focusing on promoting street strategies, historical preservations, economic revitalization and public space activation for the historic main street of Washington State Communities. This project is partnered with the City of Bothell to start the investigation into Bothell’s Main Street area and support Main Street’s resilience, inclusivity and authenticity. With a series of day trips, staff meetings and open house presentations, the project aims to deliver a mix of strategic enhancements into the existing community assets.

PEDESTRIAN ALLEY IN DAY

PEDESTRIAN ALLEY AT NIGHT COMMUNITY CORNER The iconic corner on Bothell’s Main Street is anchor to the full block site. Rooted in Bothell’s history as the location of once the largest Christmas tree in the United States, the corner presents a lot of potential as a communal centerpiece to Main Street. Our design integrates a multitude of destinations that navigate around the State Farm building and around the tree.

The whole block in Bothell, WA connects Main Street’s historical facade to the city plaza, emphasizing multifunctional and transformative places that aim to create walkable community.

Introducing a pedestrian alley and a mixed-use parking lot as a public corridor of activity, the back side can become enhanced by adding more light and color to the existing back of the local business, while also adding more retail and commercial spaces to encourage economic growth.

The addition of a curved bench stemming from the current retaining wall creates a unique waiting area underneath the Christmas tree’s foliage. The path strays into a walkway leading to the entrance of the building and a separate path that opens up into a patio located on the backside of building.

AWAY FROM LONELINESS TOGETHER WITH PETS Pratt Institute thesis project | 2023 SITE INFORMATION

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This thesis project studies on loneliness and human-pet relationship by proposing the topic, Combating Loneliness: Exploring Human-Pet Companionship for a Co-living, Co-healing and Reconnecting Enviornment. Pets have become humans’ best friends and roommates; also a way to deal with loneliness. Furthermore, in a post-pandemic future, bringing back human intimacy from social and mental isolation, pets would be powerful companions to initiate interactions and reconnect humans together. This thesis investigates a new type of interior environment that would activate, assist and maximize the process to heal loneliness when pets are humans’ life companions.The hypothesis also explores the possibility of reorienting the orthodoxy of human-centric society through introducing a new type of space to bring a balanced life and strengthen the bond between the two species, humans and pets; as well as to improve wellbeing and bring back human intimacy.

This project introduces a typology for a well-balanced human-pet environment: A Pet Library & Culture House.

Pet Library and Culture House serves as a public pets library where pets are study buddies and mental supports. The program explores a changing role of the library to offer places to work, learn, socialize, and gather with pets, which includes pet friendly facilities, programs tailored to the needs of pets, learning centers where library facilities take place with consideration of two species, on the furniture, the quality of light, behaviors and proximity. Community area explored in the cafe, friendship garden or cuddling lounge. Lastly, the children’s area with educational and storyroom functions. The project scheme is based on the reciprocate relationships of cats, dogs and humans;and is proposing a coinciding state of connection and separation for all species. Thus, the spatial arrangement offers opportunities for all species to wander alone or interact together.

Connecting to the reading steps and collection shelves, a cuddling story lounge for kids where pets are study buddies, introduces a interweaving dog passageway linking from the pets playground to the youth space. The dog passageway not only provides dogs a corridor but also allows children to crawl around interacting with pets. Blue and yellow color palette, which are the color that dogs and cats are most likely to recognize besides others while blue shows calmness in learning space and yellow prompt dynamics in community space considering human aspect.

Petting lounge serves as a community space when pets are mental support and companions to humans and vice versa. Differentiating the heights and materials of the steps provides a hint of particular occupying space for each species. Different stair rise and treads are considered to speak to not only the scale but also the well-being of all species with glass stair railings for dog walkway that shows visual dynamics and vinyl stair treads provide softer floorings for dog paws.
