Where do I start? Over 5 years ago I was invited to attend a meeting for the Sacramento Claims Association. I quickly realized it was the place to get involved with our great industry. I met so many wonderful people who have become friends and associates. I was mentored along the way by those who came before me and inspired by all the new faces who have joined and become active since. Many of these contacts will follow me through life and most definitely with the SCA. Being the “new guy” I did make a lot of mistakes but they were always fueled by great intentions. Intentions that come from a desire to see the SCA and its members succeed with a valued and supported association. There was always many supporters who told me when I was a little off base as their intentions were also grounded in what is best for the SCA. And I was learning as I went along this journey. All along the way I never felt disenchanted or frustrated, I just stayed the course with the foundational principals of the SCA always in mind. My vision was to learn as much as I could about the past SCA and the direction on the current SCA. I put myself out there at the meetings, on committees and became active in all aspects of the association.

When I was elected to the Board it was an honor and privilege to serve. Again I went into the “learning and observing” mode so I could understand the processes and procedures, the by-laws and what the duties of the Board Members are for the term they serve. Again I was with some great individuals who helped me to understand the continue page 6

Electronic Restoration Services Expands to Northern California Andrew Titley, Owner/President of ERS San Francisco Bay Area, brings his background in High Tech Sales to a new service in our area.

Andrew tells us, ERS handles “Restoration of both commercial and consumer electronics and appliances. Document freeze dry services.” Additionally, he says, ERS provides “Full pack-out and delivery, including large appliances. We Andrew Titley also do music instruments, exercise equipment, arcade games, etc. We restore at 38% or less of replacement value.” And, he says they offer a “One-year warranty on our services”.

Serving primarily the Greater San Francisco Bay Area, Andrew says that actually includes as far south as Monterey, North to Petaluma, and east to Stockton and Sacramento.

Andrew spent some time fully evaluating business opportunities before deciding on ERS. Being local to the San Francisco Bay Area , and ERS seeking a franchisee in this market, made for a great fit.

First starting this past July, he says, “We continue to be referred by both our partners and customers”. And, as a note of the level of expertise with which they work, he tells us “we have restored an entire professional music studio, with over 80 electronics”.

“Andrew brings both business and technical knowledge along with great enthusiasm and detail orientation to his business. A great asset to the ERS team,” is the word from ERS home-base.

Outside of his work world, Andrew says he enjoys “Cycling, skiing, travel and coaching my childrens’ teams.”

past and present vision of the SCA. Always keep the members we serve as the focal point…..is what I was told. This was simple but effective guidance that served me well.

Working with the Board was a great experience and a task that I took very seriously in an effort to maintain the success and track record of the SCA. We worked hard on the educational aspects of the SCA as well as the social networking that is critical as well. Additionally we focused on the historical events that have become the signature of the SCA like the Golf Tournament and the Winter Party/Gala.

I have been blessed and honored with the Presidency of the SCA and two boards that have been so very active and passionate about the vision and mission statement of the SCA. We have focused on continued growth with our membership, provided timely and quality educational programs, planned very fun and effective social events, continued to contribute to Charitable Organizations locally and updated and amended the Bylaws and Policies and Procedures process for committees where needed. We have balanced the budget and kept the SCA financially sound.

I want to Thank all the Board members who served with me these past years. Without your support and guidance I would have not been able to lead effectively for the SCA. I want to Thank all our Members who continually ignite a smile on my

face each time we are together. For all your financial support and personal support, let me personally say that we value you as our members.

I want to Thank all of those who joined a Committee or our newly formed Street Team. It takes many hands lifting in the same direction to keep an effective and vibrant association going.

I want to Thank some of you who stayed involved with the SCA even though your time was calling you in a different direction for work….you stayed with us and you lent your time and knowledge for consistency with what we do.

Lastly I want to Thank you all for this opportunity to be your representative for the Sacramento Claims Association. I has been an honor and a privilege to serve.

Seven Deadly Sins of Adjuster Testimony - This program addresses every insurance professional’s nightmare: testifying in a deposition or at trial. Using actual testimony and video, the instructors explain the most common mistakes insurance claim professionals make when testifying, share common lawyer “tricks and traps”, and offer “witness tools” to help the claim professional testify effectively.

Ulises Castellon, CPCU RPA has worked as a claim’s professional for over twenty-five years. In addition to being a property and casualty adjuster and manager, he established the Special Investigations Unit for State Farm Insurance Companies in Northern California in 1986. He currently is Director of Operations for Fire Cause Analysis and is an insurance consultant and expert witness.

Douglas K. Wood, is Founding Partner of Rudloff Wood & Barrows LLP, and is a Martindale-Hubbell “AV-Preeminent” rated trial attorney. DOI warns consumers of potential scams during AB 60 license process Free assistance available to help understand and identify auto insurance options SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The California Department of Insurance advises that implementation of Assembly Bill 60 (Alejo) has the potential to improve safety and decrease the number of uninsured motorists on California roads. Unfortunately, with this historic opportunity to license undocumented immigrants in California, it is also expected that criminals will attempt to scam these new drivers.

“It is essential that consumers take the time to educate themselves on what insurance is necessary and appropriate for them,” said Commissioner Dave Jones. “The department’s goal is to prevent anyone from losing their license due to a lack of insurance or as a result of a scam.”

Consumers are encouraged to check the license status of insurance agents or brokers on the California Department of Insurance website or call the consumer hotline at 800-

927-4357 for assistance. Experts advise that if at any time you feel pressured to purchase an insurance policy, trust your instincts and do not sign anything. Scammers often rely on high-pressure sales tactics and consumers not asking trusted friends or family for advice or assistance.

Some income-eligible, good drivers may discover that for less than $38 a month the California Low Cost Auto Insurance program may be the most cost effective insurance option available. This program meets the requirements for California’s mandatory auto insurance law and starting January 1, 2015 it is also available to drivers that are at least 19 years old with no previous driving experience.

All paid 2015 members are now eligible to participate in a special new sponsorship at our luncheons!

We will have sponsors for our new CENTER PIECE RAFFLE! ** we will still have our usual raffle with prizes from our wonderful vendors**

To be eligible, your 2015 membership must be current. Luncheon table center piece sponsorship is limited to one prize per table (bottle of wine, gift baskets, potted flowers etc. approved by reservations chair before the luncheon). Promotional material limited to one brochure and trinket ( pens, note pads etc. ) per place setting. The center piece will be either raffled by business card under one of the seats at each table, or winner being the person with a birthday closest to the day of the luncheon at each table.

This is a first come first served sponsorship for corporate members that have paid their 2015 membership of $200, and will begin filling the calendar on December 1st 2014 for the 2015 calendar year.
