Le rêve réalisé du premier tramway

epuis septembre 2015, les citoyens d’AddisAbeba partagent le quotidien avec le tramway dénommé Addis Ababa Light Railway. Ce train ultra-moderne parcourt 34 kilomètres ralliant le nord et le sud de la capitale afin de convoyer 60 mille passagers par jour pour un tarif de moins d'un demidollar, subventionné par l’Etat. Financé par la Chine à 85%, ce projet est le premier service de train entièrement électrifiée en Afrique sub-saharienne. Il a coûté plus de 470 millions de dollars. Ce qui pourra diminuer les embouteillages dans la capitale. Pour de nombreux observateur, l’avènement de ce «serpent d’acier» est le symbole d’une révolution à deux niveaux. Au plan économique

l’investissement a permis au pays de gagner une part dans l’offensive chinoise qui vise un partenariat gagnant-gagnant avec l’Afrique. Lors d’un voyage en Ethiopie en mai 2014, le premier ministre chinois Li Keqiang avait réaffirmé l’intention d’étendre la coopération avec l'Afrique dans les domaines de la construction des routes, des chemins de fer,
des télécommunications, des réseaux électriques et d'autres infrastructures. Au niveau énergétique, le gouvernement a mis en place un système de ligne électrique spécialement dédié au tramway montrant la forte potentialité du pays dans ce secteur.
