Adult Classes... CLAY

GETTING A GREAT FINISH (adult / intermediate) Clay Studio • Instructor: Holly McKeen Thursdays: 6:30 - 8:30pm (2 sessions, plus critique Oct. 27) October 13 - 27, 2016

This course will offer a better understanding of how to create different colours, textures and effects in oxidation pottery glazes at cone 6. Understand more about exploring, mixing and applying glazes to achieve great effects. Using a large number of test tiles, students will formulate and mix several glazes to create colouring, texture and layering samples that will show how various effects are achieved. Learn how formulation/application/ thickness and layering affects the results. Also learn tips and techniques on how kiln firing impacts glaze results, as we load the kiln together and discuss firing schedules. Learn more about food safety, chemical handling, and testing processes. Also, bring your questions or samples for expert trouble-shooting. Registration for each class includes one free drop-in for the Clay Open Studio on Wednesday nights or Friday mornings. Cost: $90

Time to enjoy the plentiful season – incorporate the use of leaves and botanicals for surface decoration, try your hand at woven clay and juxtapose your clay creations against stone and wood. October 15 - November 19, 2016 A five week intensive course introducing the basics of handling clay on the wheel. This class will offer multiple approaches to centering and is ideal for the beginner or intermediate artist. Wheel a la carte classes are designed to move through the process of wheel throwing from centering to glaze firing. Beginners are recommended to sign up for sessions 1 & 2 for a foundation in wheel throwing. WHEEL A LA CARTE 2: CUPS & BOWLS & PLATES*

November 19 - December 17, 2016 Once centering is on track, learn to transform your clay into three basic forms: the cylinder, the bowl, and the plate. Spend each session honing one form and learn how these three shapes lend themselves to lidded vessels, teapots, and all other ceramic forms. Pick and choose your classes at your leisure! Classes are designed to move through the process of wheel throwing from centering to glaze firing. Beginners are recommended to sign up for sessions 1 & 2 for a foundation in wheel throwing. Clay used in open studio is to be purchased separately thought the Centre Box Office. Only work produced at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre from clay purchased here can be fired in our kilns. These sessions are not designed to accommodate production potters but to allow students to independently develop their skills, nor are they designed for private instruction. JEWELLERY-MAKING GLASS BEADS LEVEL 1 (adult) Painting & Drawing Studio • Instructor: Alicia Champ Tuesdays: 6:30-8:30 (4 sessions) October 11 - November 8, 2016

Learn how to craft your own beads using flame and glass. Create a bead from molten glass using a torch and glass rods.Experiment with stringers, frit, and dots and have fun learning a new hobby! Glass alchemy, studio set-up, and safety are also discussed. Registration for each class includes one free drop-in for the Glass Open Studio on Monday nights. Cost: $160

CABOCHON 1 - MAKING PENDANTS (adult)

The Life Drawing Studio is an open studio for professional and emerging artists, students, and anyone interested in drawing the human form. The life Drawing Open Studio is composed of a friendly, welcoming and very dedicated group of creative people. People work independently and at their own level of experience. While no formal instruction is provided, support and encouragement is given. A variety of male and female models with different body shapes and ages are booked for the Open Studio.
