The impact of the CLP Regulation on Novadan labels and Private Label labels.
The EU’s CLP Regulation (classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures) has been revised, and this affects, among other things, label design. The regulation will apply from 1 July 2026 and 1 January 2027 respectively Products that were placed on the market before 1 July 2026 will have a longer transition period.
There are, among other things, requirements that hazard statements must be in black text on a white background, and there are also requirements regarding text size.
At Novadan, we have begun the process of complying with the CLP Regulation. Although the deadline is still some time away, we have decided to start updating our label design now. As a result, you will soon see the new design, as shown on the right.

Market Update
Raw materials outlook for Q4/Q1 2026
During the autumn, the raw materials market has remained relatively stable in terms of supply and pricing. At the time of writing, the final outlook for prices in the coming quarter is still uncertain; however, based on suppliers’ statements, we anticipate price increases. Some manufacturers expect energy costs to rise during the winter, which will likely impact prices in Q1- but the coming months will reveal the extent of this effect.
Nitric Acid has been affected in Q4 as a Nordic manufacturer decided to discontinue its sales of this product. This has influenced the market for Nitric Acid and related products containing this raw material.
Additionally, prices for raw materials used in many surfactants have increased due to the implementation of the EUDR regulation, which requires that only sustainably produced raw materials can be used. The same applies to enzyme raw materials, where we are experiencing higher-than-usual price
increases.
Overall, we are facing significant cost increases for documentation and biocides within the chemical industry. For example, annual biocide fees payable to ECHA have risen by 19.5%. Similarly, costs related to Safety Data Sheet management systems and general documentation - such as European PCN registrations - are increasing substantially. In some countries, annual fees for these registrations have now been introduced.
Furthermore, considerable effort lies ahead regarding label updates to comply with CLP legislation. Given our extensive product portfolio, we have already initiated this process to ensure compliance before the deadline. This task requires substantial internal resources and will result in an increased number of item codes in the future to include all relevant languages.
Current Market Conditions – Q4 and Outlook for Q1 2026
• The supply of raw materials is currently stable as we see it
• In generel high inflation rates in several markets (~2-5%) which is above normal levels (include wage increases). The suppliers have announced price increases in line with the current inflation.
• The implementation of EUDR (European Deforestation Regulation) is approaching and is driving up raw material prices, (ex raw materials from palm oil imported into EU)
• Construction and automotive sectors in Europe are experiencing a recession in several areas and the production volumes are lower than before. Manufacturers have chosen to adjust their production of raw materials accordingly, which affects the chemical prices as demand falls. Some manufacturers have halted production, undertaken maintenance projects, reduced their output. One manufacturer has already decided to shut down its production entirely due to high production prices in Europe, making it difficult to deliver a competitive product.
• The energy situation in Europe is much more in control compared to previous years. Several manufacturers have chosen to add surcharges on raw materials when regulated in the market. The upcoming winter could be decisive for whether energy prices rise or stays stable in Europe (Any potential surcharge is not yet known)
• The current trade conflicts within and outside of Europe appear to have calmed down, and the market is now less affected by them.
• Several European countries have introduced taxes and fees on packaging (EPR) to reduce the use of eg. plastic. This will without doubt have an impact now and in the coming years.

Novadan introduces a green colored can
Novadan introduces a green colored can (20L) for some of our products:
- Oxivit Aktiv Plus
- Ro Dan 300 E
- Uni Water 325
The introduction follows an intensive market push for the green color – especially within the Agro Hygiene segment, where Oxivit Aktiv Plus is widely used as disinfection. The green color has been used in the market for years by competitors, and is today seen as the standard color in the Agro hygiene segment for PAA products (Oxivit Aktiv Plus).
At the same time, we decided to change the colors of two other products to differentiate them more in the future. These two products are Ro Dan 300 E and Uni Water 325, which will be delivered in green cans in the coming future.
Novadan is actively engaged in NIS 2
Denmark is among the first EU countries to implement legislation related to the NIS 2 directive. Novadan is of course aware of the NIS2 directive, as we, as manufacturer of cleaning chemicals, fall within the scope for NIS 2. We have followed its development over the last couple of years and have completed our registration under NIS 2 this autumn. In 2026, we will process our compliance by conducting a GAP analysis, which will enable us to finalize full certification in relation to NIS 2.
What is the NIS 2 Directive?
NIS 2 (Directive (EU) 2022/2555) is the European Union’s updated framework for cybersecurity, replacing the original NIS Directive (2016). It is designed to enhance cybersecurity across the European Union by establishing a high common level of security for network and information systems. This directive expands the scope of covered entities to include more industries. Companies must implement stronger risk management measures, report incidents, and comply with minimum cybersecurity standards. National authorities are given greater enforcement powers, and the ability to impose significant fines for non-compliance.
Under NIS 2, essential and important entities must adopt
appropriate and proportionate technical, operational, and organizational measures to manage cybersecurity risks. These measures aim to protect network and information systems, as well as to prevent or minimize the impact of incidents on service recipients and interconnected services.
The directive mandates an “all-hazards” approach, meaning that entities must be prepared to address a wide range of threats, from cyberattacks to physical disruptions, ensuring comprehensive protection and resilience in their operations.

PRODUCER RESPONSIBILITY
ON PACKAGING AND PACKAGING WASTE
by Annette Høy Marketing Manager
The producer responsibility on packaging is an EU requirement. The EU directive on packaging and packaging waste sets a broad framework for member states, but it is up to the individual member states how to practically implement the legislation. This means that there are national differences in the legislation of producer responsibility for packaging across Europe.
What does the producer responsibility on packaging mean?
The producer responsibility on packaging means that the thousands of companies that put packaging on the respective market will be responsible for the packaging throughout its entire lifecycle - even after the packaging is empty and sorted as waste by the end user.
What are the purposes of the producer responsibility for packaging?
The overall purposes of introducing producer responsibility for packaging are to reduce the amount of packaging, ensure efficient collection and handling of packaging waste, and motivate companies to better and more environmentally friendly design of packaging - both for prevention, reuse, and recycling.
How does Novadan live up to its obligations here?
Novadan is a member of VANA, which is a producer responsibility organisation (PRO). They take on the legal, economic, and practical responsibility on behalf of their members, so Novadan and others can focus on our core business.
A membership of VANA gives us access to knowledge, tools and guidance as well as access to their Member Portal where we can handle the required registration of our company and material categories and report our packaging amounts and -types.
In popular terms, it is often referred to as closing the loop. Source: VANA.dk
What about your obligations?
At Novadan, we have spent some time to be sure to fulfill our obligations. You have probably done the same. However, if not, we suggest you search for information about your obligations. Novadan’s Private Label customers have obligations and importers of Novadan branded products (outside Denmark) have obligations depending on the country.
You can get help managing producer responsibility for packaging in other EU countries and internationally through producer responsibility organisations (PRO) in the respective countries you operate in.
The membrane team visiting
On Thursday, October 30, our membrane team visited Alfa Laval in Nakskov, located on the island of Lolland in Denmark. The factory is the group’s global knowledge center for membrane technology and plays a key role in developing advanced solutions for filtering and concentrating liquids.
Alfa Laval Nakskov develops and manufactures membrane filtration systems used across a wide range of industries – particularly dairy production, brewing, sugar processing, wastewater treatment, and the chemical industry. The technology includes both nano- and ultrafiltration, and the systems are typically customer-specific and tailored to complex processes.
During the visit, we gained valuable insights into the local expertise, where engineers, software developers, designers, metalworkers, and electricians work closely together to develop these advanced systems.
After an engaging presentation, we toured the company and visited their testing and development department.
We also had the opportunity to see a specially designed system for the medical industry - almost ready for testing before delivery to the customer.
Finally, we walked through the production halls, where spiral membranes are assembled, glued, and rolled. A fascinating process that gave us a deeper understanding of the entire production workflow.

Novadan’s safety vision: All accidents can be prevented and our goal is 0 accidents!
It is of utmost importance that employees, customers and other in relation to Novadan are not exposed to danger and accidental situations, and consequently Novadan initiates continuous actions to prevent these. This is especially important as Novadan is a hazardous industrial site, and we work with strong chemicals.
Novadan safety target:
0 work accidents
Carrying out 8 security rounds in warehouse and in production
Minimum 240 registrations of unsecure working situations (near-miss accidents)
Carrying out 5 practices in case of emergency
2026 improvement priorities.
Novadan’s safety manager has done Pareto charts of all of the types of near misses that have been reported during 2025. This overview is used that to influence the action planning for 2026.
At Novadan, we implement a range of safety measures, including clear guidelines and emergency procedures. One initiative all our consultants take part in is a half-day training session on a a skid control training track (for driving on slippery surfaces). Since they spend several hours on the road each year, this training is repeated every second year. This is one way to ensure their safety behind the wheel. Watch the video below to get a glimpse of how it went.
A new design on Nova X-Dry and Nova Sani
It has been almost 15 years since Novadan successfully introduced the hygiene powder products Nova X-Dry and Nova Sani. These trusted and well-known products remain the same in quality, but in recent months attentive readers may have noticed a change in their packaging.
Until now, the products were supplied in plastic bags. However, over the summer we transitioned both 25 kg bags to a new design in paper packaging (see the images on this page).
Beyond updating the design, this change also reflects our commitment to improving our environmental profile by moving from plastic to paper.
The transition has already been well received by those of you who have tried the new packaging.
A very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
