The project is a resort located in a residential community on the mountain side in Taiwan. Design idea is inspired by a distinctive bird- Taiwan Blue Magpie. It represents users go through the program like a bird soaring up with their dream. The purpose of the project is to relieve urban anxiety by going back to nature and also provide personal growth by educational programs. The Wing Resort has six levels within two wings: the front wing has four levels including resort lobby, guest suites, retail, restaurant and open kitchen; the back wing has two levels containing a recreation spa with indoor pool and a community library. Landscape is also included in the design. In order to bring the concept to life, users get different experiences throughout the project. The whole idea is about “design connectivityâ€? as it is expressing from the past to future, exterior to interior, existence landscape to fabricated landscape and nature to humanity. The Wing Resort takes you through a relieve process and gives WINGSĂ’TOĂ’YOURĂ’DREAMSĂ’TOҚYĂ’AGAIN

Preface
National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) has long been recognized as one of elite institutions of higher education. Dr. Yang oversaw plans to expand and remodel NTNU’s main library, education building and the technology building. He considered to be very knowledgeable and respectful of historical architectural details. With his persistence, the new buildings were successfully incorporated into the traditional and historic fabric of the campus.
Lin, Chia-Ching (Anne C. Lin) is writing this thesis to accomplish the master degree. I was her professor during the collage years and happened to live in the community which is discussed in her project. Therefore, I was invited to write this cover letter for her. The New Garden City was established in 1968 by the architect, Mrs. Hsu, Ze-Lan. While she was mapping out the community, she was inspired by a British urban planner, Ebenezer Howard, The Garden Cities of To-morrow. The concept of the urban PLANÒISÒTOÒHAVEÒANÒECONOMICÒSYSTEMÒTHATÒCANÒBEÒSELF SUF¾CIENCY Ò7ITHÒTHATÒVISION ÒTHEÒ builder operated restaurants, markets, transportation and the theme park in order to MAKEÒPRO¾TSÒTOÒMAINTAINÒTHEÒTOWN Ò$URINGÒTHEÒTIME ÒTHEÒRESIDENCEÒDIDÒNOTÒNEEDÒTOÒPAYÒ for any managing or maintenance fees. The New Garden City was not only the most MODERNÒCONCEPTIONÒPRACTICEDÒBUTÒALSOÒTHEÒ¾RSTÒMOUNTAINSIDEÒRESIDENTIALÒCOMMUNITYÒ built in the entire history of Taiwan! My family and I visited the theme park when it was there around forty years ago, and all of us were so attracted by the breath taking scenery. We moved into the New 'ARDENÒ#ITYÒINÒ ÒANDÒENJOYÒTHEÒQUIETÒANDÒPEACEFULÒLIFEÒHEREÒAÒLOT Ò4IMEҚIES ÒWEÒ have been living here about thirty years now. The site Anne is working on was a compound unit combined with a restaurant, kindergarten, supermarket and swimming pool. When my children were kids, we spent some quality time there! With the zig-zag chevron roof, arch windows and the curving walls, the building is full of Mrs. Hsu’s DESIGNÒCHARACTERISTICS Ò5NFORTUNATELY ÒBECAUSEÒTHOSEÒOPERATIONALÒPRO¾TSÒDIDÒNOTÒMEETÒ the community’s expenditure, the builder declared bankrupt in 1986. They started selling lands and buildings, and this unit was sold to someone who does not live in the community. The architecture with full of design has been abandoned. Other facilities also broke down one by one. The builder was no longer in charge. The residences have to take over and protect the town by themselves. The situation awakens the people in town. The community recently is planning to redevelop the town. The site, the subject of Anne’s thesis, located at the center of the community, has a very strong history background. Since it becomes a private property, how to make it for commercial use and merge with the community at the same time becomes the challenge of the project. Anne was a hard working student in my class and has creative design potential. I’m really looking forward to see how she is going to develop the scheme. I would love to write the over letter for her and wish her luck for the thesis project.

INTRODUCTION
STEP UP ON THE SOLID TRUTH With a deep story and fundamental purpose about this unique community- New Garden City, the project digs out the memories and hidden treasure of Taiwanese culture. The Wing Resort developed based on the solid truth from the history of the community and social anxiety around the world. The photo is the washed granolithic ďŹ nishes stairs, which is used throughout the entire community to suit the moist weather and slippery conditions due to rain.
Story of the New Garden City First residential community in Taiwan. The New Garden City (Huayuan Xincheng) is a town surrounded by nature with hills ANDĂ’STREAMS Ă’)TĂ’ISĂ’THEĂ’ÂľRSTĂ’LARGEĂ’SCALEĂ’RESIDENTIALĂ’COMMUNITYĂ’APPEARSĂ’INĂ’4AIWANĂ’ANDĂ’ located in Xindian District, New Taipei City. Since it is an inviting community with breathtaking sceneries, many artists and designers desire to live in this getaway neighborhood. HISTORY OF THE COMMUNITY The whole mountain was a gift from the last president Chiang Kai-shek to a female architect- Xiu Zelan in 1968. During 1950s, Taiwan had implemented a ‘new’ town planning called Garden City Method to solve the pressing problems in urban city and towards to build a wonderland. [1] The architect proposed to build a community based on the method and named the town New Garden City. The method was initiated by Ebenzer Howard in 1989. The key of the method is to contain residence, industry and agriculture within and become self-contained. Therefore, she built an AMUSEMENTĂ’TOĂ’SUPPORTĂ’MAINTENANCEĂ’COASTĂ’ANDĂ’BECOMEĂ’AĂ’ÂľNANCIALLYĂ’SELF SUPPORTEDĂ’ COMMUNITY Ă’4HEĂ’.EWĂ’'ARDENĂ’#ITYĂ’ISĂ’THEĂ’ÂľRSTĂ’LARGEĂ’SCALEĂ’HUMAN BASEDĂ’COMMUNITYĂ’ appears in Taiwan. It became a Plato’s republic for politicians and businessmen in 1971.
Right Ebenezer Howard (18501928), the father of the garden city movement. It is vision map for a ‘Group of Slumless, Smokeless Cities’. Garden cities were intended to be planned, self-contained communities surrounded by “greenbelts�, containing proportionate areas of residences, industry and agriculture.

However, things don’t go as planned all the time, the revenue couldn’t balance with the expenditures from the amusement park to maintain the town. At the same time, Xiu Zelan had a career setback and escaped from the country. The community was almost announced vacancy from the government because of low water source consecration problem and plan to build a reservoir around in 1979. New Garden #ITYĂ’WASĂ’OUTĂ’OFĂ’MANAGEMENTĂ’ALMOSTĂ’FORĂ’ÂľFTEENĂ’YEARS Ă’5NTILĂ’ Ă’WITHĂ’RESIDENTSgĂ’ effort to preserve this beautiful community by themselves, the Orchids Stream Culture Association was founded (2004) to rebuild and maintain the area. In recent years, the community awareness have grown even more for both environmental and ARTIÂľCIAL Ă’7ITHĂ’AĂ’DEEPĂ’HISTORYĂ’BEHINDĂ’THEĂ’COMMUNITY Ă’THEĂ’PROJECTĂ’TENDĂ’TOĂ’CONTINUEĂ’THEĂ’ fundamental idea of the community- to have a self contained life with hope and joy. OVERALL CONCEPT People nowadays live in the city with high social anxiety in this generation, which was the core problem to solve for the project: The Wing Resort provides a place for your soul a retreat by going back to nature. Being “healthyâ€? has become a very popular and important topic nowadays and it is also the original intention of the community founder when she was building the New Garden City (Huayuan Xincheng). The project inspired by a distinctive bird, Taiwan Blue Magpie and symbolize a

bird soaring up with dreams. WALK IN THE PATH OF DREAM In a rich, natural vegetation environment, Chinese Sweet Gum Avenue is located within the in New Garden City. During the ower season, it becomes a crowded pathway with tourists enjoying the breeze.

New Garden city (Hwa-yuan Xin-cheng) is located in New Taipei City, which is on the outskirts of the capital Taipei City. The two cities have a relationship and distance that are similar to that of Sausalito and San Francisco. In the process of population growth, the suburbs were pushed outward, but New Taipei city kept part of the residential area. The community is a beautiful urban getaway in nature with views of the city. The site also rich in Taiwan mountain endemic species. It contains all the elements to be a wonderland, but sadly it was forgotten for a while. The site is chosen to recall the purpose from the history, for human nature desires to escape from the cold urban jungle. There are several strategies of choosing this site for the project: TRANSPORTATION With transportation developments, the Sindian metro station was opened in 1998, BRINGINGĂ’IMMIGRATIONĂ’INTOĂ’THEĂ’COMMUNITY Ă’)TĂ’TAKESĂ’LESSĂ’THANĂ’ÂľFTEENĂ’MINUTESĂ’TOĂ’GETĂ’TOĂ’ the community from Sindian metro station, which is located at the edge of the capital city, Taipei. There is also a community shuttle bus--Green 3 from metro station to New Garden City. The service is between 6:00 to 22:30 every day with 20-minute intervals.

RESIDENTS They are people who keep the traditional music and art craft culture within the community. High percentage of the residents are artist, photographers, writers, retired teachers, and natural eco-enthusiasts. They are people looking for a better quality life and get away from the busy city life. They are people with deep root in Asian art and social culture. TIMMING There are two main factors that provide an opportunity for revolution in the commuNITYĂ’INĂ’RECENTĂ’YEARS Ă’&IRSTĂ’ISĂ’THEĂ’TAP WATERĂ’THATĂ’ÂľNALLYĂ’ENTEREDĂ’THEĂ’TOWNĂ’BYĂ’THEĂ’4AIWANĂ’ Water Corporation in 2013. This was a problem with the private road properties for long time and people could only use water from the steams. Second is the global carbon reduction and increased environmental awareness. The local government has recently started remodeling abounded buildings in town and giving out support.

A NEED FOR THE GENERATION The World Health Organization forecast that among the three main diseases in 2020, melancholia will be the second serious problem around the world. There is a higher rate of depression in the Western countries. The main cause is the weather with less sunlight and foggy sky, and another is the high divorce rate. According to a survey, in Taiwan, 73.5 % of the people between ages 45-59 suffer from depression. The non-psychotic postpartum depression studies also show a high prevalence rate in women (especially adult mothers.)[1] The time period within a day also hourly affect our mood situation. According to the research, the mood picks up from 6 am to noon and stays high and more positive during the day. Then it takes a dive down and more negative impact around 6 pm till mid night to bed. [2] There are many factors that lead to depression. One of the fundamental goals for this thesis project is to create a place with an antidepressant effect, a place that PROTECTSĂ’PEOPLEgSĂ’INNERĂ’HEATHĂ’ANDĂ’CHEERSĂ’UPĂ’ONEgSĂ’SOUL Ă’4HEREĂ’AREĂ’ÂľVEĂ’WAYSĂ’TOĂ’HELPĂ’ people feel better: exercise, nurture yourself with good nutrition, identify problems but not be caught up with them, express yourself, and look on the bright side. [3] Base on the research and analysis, human activities related to open hours of the spaces are also considered while developing the program.

Project Building Central Center of the Community HISTORY OF THE BUILDING The project building was designed by the community founder architect, Mrs. Hsu Ze-Lan. She and her husband run the community together under their company named Newcheng co. and the building is under her properties. The building is located at the center of the community and was used as community center contain pool, market, kindergarten, and restaurants. However, Xiu Zelan had a career setback during that year in 1979. During the time, Newcheng co. gave out the project building as loan to bank. At the same period of time, many of her architecture design projects were demolished and many valuable historical architectures ware lost. The project building survived from being demolished but was been abandoned since then. Later on was sold to a medical cosmetology conglomerate. The owner planned to rebuild a water spa in 2006, but due to the low water source conservation areas and the environmental awareness from the community, the project was terminated and rejected by the residents. It remains abandoned still now (2014). BUILDING ARCHITECT 8IUÒ:ELANÒISÒTHEÒµRSTÒFEMALEÒ4AIWANESEÒARCHITECT ÒWHOSEÒANCESTRALÒHOMEÒISÒINÒ9UANLINGÒ Hunan. During the World War II she attended Architecture Department of National Central University in Chongqing (now Southeast University School of Architecture).

In 1949 she entered the Taiwan Rail Bureau. She took charge of the Department of General Logistics and Engineering as an assistant engineer. Her work is full of peculiar curve but it integrated with the additional architecture style of the 1950’s. People #LIENTĂ’ANDĂ’5SERĂ’PROÂľLE TARGET USER According to the main concept of the project- to restore and reinforce strength to the generation--soul seekers become the main target user group. Soul seekers are people who lives in the city and potential getting stress from social society. According to a survey, 73.5 % of people in Taiwan who are 45-59 years old have depression. Most of the stress comes from taking care of elders and being unemployed. The worst case for depression and the reason why this issue has been so urgent is that it causes people to commit suicide if they fail to overcome their stress. Chiayi, Keeling, and Nantou County, the developing areas in Taiwan, have the highest rate of social anxiety. New Taipei City, where the site is located has the second high rate of suicide. There are 77,725 people between the ages of 45 and 59 in Xindian district [2], which means almost 57,000 people in one district could potentially commit suicide. The project is not related to any medical properties but prevent potential stress from a getaway nature environment and personal growth through art making, cooking and cultivating within the resort programs. &ROMĂ’PROÂľTĂ’ASPECTĂ’FORĂ’THEĂ’CLIENT Ă’STUDENTS Ă’EMPLOYEESĂ’ANDĂ’TOURISTSĂ’AREĂ’SECONDARYĂ’ target users. According to the research, population on Xindian district is 297,638 people (2013 Feb.) There are 19,944 college students between the ages of 19 and Ă’ Ă’OFĂ’THEĂ’AREAgSĂ’POPULATIONĂ’ISĂ’EMPLOYED Ă’OFĂ’WHICHĂ’AREĂ’INĂ’PRIVATEĂ’SERVICEĂ’ industry. Xindian metro station has 19,116 tourists passing by every day. On average, there are 803,242 (2002) tourists each month visiting and traveling in Taiwan, and 119,895 people come to Xindian district. Taiwan has a full year schedule for šOWERĂ’SEASONS Ă’$URINGĂ’*ANUARYĂ’TOĂ’-ARCHĂ’ISĂ’#HERRYĂ’BLOOMҚOWERĂ’SEASONĂ’ANDĂ’ITĂ’ attracts tourist groups of all ages. Based on the location of the project, which is in the mountains, they become potential customers for the resort during their time of travel and tour. The project is also a challenge to respect the voice from the community. There are 3,128 residents in the neighborhood (2012-08.) Interaction and economic variables determine the social class of the town. The main components of the group are families with kids, household members, retired couples or singles. What is interesting and special about New Garden City is that the residents come from similar backgrounds. Most of them are artists, photographers, writers, and natural eco-enTHUSIASTS Ă’)NĂ’TERMSĂ’OFĂ’ÂľNANCE Ă’THEYĂ’AREĂ’PEOPLEĂ’BETWEENĂ’UPPERĂ’ANDĂ’MIDDLEĂ’INCOMEĂ’ level who make $200,000 to $250,000 USD a year or more. The idea of the project is also to support and help people stay in the community and to become the bridge between people coming in and out of the town, the new and old generation. This is the current slogan of the Asia -EDICALĂ’ Ă’!ESTHETICĂ’'ROUP Ă’)TĂ’ISĂ’THEĂ’ÂľRSTĂ’MEDICALĂ’AESTHETICSĂ’GROUPĂ’INĂ’4AIWAN Ă’4HEIRĂ’ mission is to be at the forefront of the medical aesthetic and anti-ageing industry. Based on the concept of fashion and aesthetic, they like to further extend their industry: not only focus on the beauty of the body, but also form the inner mind to shine. A heathy and perfect solution for a better generation is having both body and mind healthy.

RESIDENTS There are 3,128 people in the neighborhood (data update in 2012-08.) The interaction and economic variables determines the social class of the town. Family with kids are the most household members, others are retire couples or single. Most of them are artist, photographers, writers, and natural eco-enthusiasts. They are between upper and middle income people who make $200,000 to $250,000 a year and more. The New Garden City residents have play an important role of the user group of the project. They are not only the user but also people who look after programs going built or propose within the community. As before the client try to remodel the site become a water spa and have not considered the needs of the community and water usage problems. A spa might bring pollution and noise to the community so have been rejected from the residents. The proposing program includes residents as user group and client. The handson art studio, open market and tea garden provide residents who retired a second career chance and can be rented for educational activities. Recreation spa, nature pathway, libraries and restaurants all provide for residents to use with a membership program.

GO TO YOUR DREAM, STEP BY STEP Because of the slop topography in the community, most of the structure is built with multi levels. Thousand-step stairs become a feature of New Garden City. Just like fulfilling your dream, you need to walk step by step, fulfill it step by step. While going through the project, steps symbolized self-awareness and a moment that you consciously look back to yourself. You think and step up one step at a time toward your dream.
Cavallo Point Lodge Retreat Center, Sausalito, California
PROGRAM A national park lodge, nestled just across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco. There are three main building which including the program of: Mercantile Store, Art Gallery, Meeting room, Restaurant, Bar, Cooking School. Around have other facilities for Healing Art Center & Spa, Fitness Center, Institute Center, and lawn for outdoor activities. PROJECT INSIGHT Having the same core of a get-away-concept from the city stressful life, the project inspire me to develop a “sister program” in Taiwan. The New Garden City where the project site located in is a rich art cultural based community. The challenge is to develop a strong connected and supportable program between locals and visitors. 7ITHÒLOCATION SPECIµCÒADVANTAGEÒASÒ#AVOLLOÒ0OINTÒHASÒFORÒ3ANÒ&RANCISCO ÒTHEÒDESIGNÒ project is to refund an escape Haven on Earth for the new generation in Taiwan.

PROGRAM The project program is a 24,000 sq. ft. intermediate level community center with “living room,â€? cafĂŠ, meeting room, administration, and child care facilities. The lower level opens on the opposite side of the building to covered terraces and courtyard spaces adjacent to the golf course and includes a gymnasium, multipurpose room, arts room, youth room, and outdoor specialty area. The upper level accommodates ÂľTNESSĂ’FACILITIES PROJECT INSIGHT Gleneagles Community Center is located on a small, gently sloping site similar to the thesis site. Patkau Architects organized the program on three levels to minimize the building footprint. Though sectional arrangement of interior spaces activates he energizes the building. Catching the same idea for the design project by rising the volume of the 2 levels in the front wing inorder to maximize sunlight gaining. The interior space become open market and open kitchen.

PROGRAM A private residence of 285 square meters for a single person design by Patkau Architects. The program includes living spaces, bedroom, study, music room, and a lap pool. PROJECT INSIGHT Having the pool above in the project is similar to my project that having a 7,000 sq pool with two-story beneath. The designer smartly uses the light through the water to create lighting movement from the wave. I would like to use the idea for the interior beneath the pool can create a peaceful world under the sea.

BEAUTIFUL AS YOU ARE Elegance of the flying Taiwan Blue Magpie is like the mysterious traditional Asian art- it is beautiful as it is. Nowadays many people have forgotten the root of the traditional craft and only look after modern art. By using a flying bird, it represents the traditional art culture flies up high again with confidence. It changed and transformed to a whole new look and appears to the generation.
Design Inspiration Taiwan Blue Magpie
The main design feature was inspired by a painting of a community map which is NOWÒHANGINGÒINÒTHEÒMANAGERÒOF¾CE Ò)TÒWASÒDRAWNÒBYÒANÒARTISTÒWHOÒLIVESÒINÒTHEÒCOMmunity. It shows the natural environment of the community. There are three kinds of birds drawn on the painting: Taiwan blue magpie, owl, and eagle. They were chosen because all can easily be found in the town and they also symbolically present strong characteristics: unity, wisdom, and power. The project is to represent the spirit of the residents in the community and art craft culture in Taiwan. Taiwan blue magpie perfectly matched the image of the project. Taiwan blue magpie is an endemic species in Taiwan and habituated in the community. It has an elegant appearance but strong nest defensive behavior in a strong solidarity community. Taiwan blue magpie, the design concept, represents people’s characteristics: the residents who just increased their awareness of protecting and reforming their community by founding a private association-–strong nest defense; an art- and culture-focused community that has rich and beautiful natural environment-–elegant; the community’s fundamental idea of the garden city method which is to be self-contained and nature surrounded. People grow their own food and help each other for living-– a strong solidarity community.

With a delicate appearance but strong potential power, the wing resort carries this idea throughout the entire design and creates spaces that can echo and strengthen people’s heart--a healing interior.

Programs in the Project Programming and space planning
SPATIAL EFFECT Spaces and our inner mind are like bubbles in the air which will be affected by the pressure surrounding it. They have a strong relationship. Interior architecture and exterior landscape are also the same. They interact as human beings who are INšUENCEDĂ’BYĂ’ONEĂ’ANOTHER Ă’&UNCTIONALITYĂ’OFĂ’THEĂ’SPACEĂ’INšUENCESĂ’PEOPLEgSĂ’ACTION Ă’ Therefore, the program tempts to spread toward two extreme directions: scatter to aggregation. As for people who come individually, they potentially have a “scatteredâ€? experience through the programs. When an individual is affected by outward social stress, they will try to seclude themselves from groups and get a secured and independent space to calm their mind. Those spaces need more separation from the public and embrace a larger scale nature. Resort guest rooms are suited for this scattered experience need. Guest suites are placed on the highest level of the project to provide higher privacy. It is a point where you are wrapped up by the surrounding nature in the space. Tourists and travelers are like individuals “swarmingâ€? into one spot from all directions. The space needs to accommodate each individual’s need by a larger landscape. With an open space and green area in the project such as rooftop dining, tea garden and nature walk path evenly distribute people to the site. Spaces should allow people to express themselves and be “engagedâ€? in nature. People and nature cannot be separated. By analyzing the spatial relationship, the project also imports Healing Garden Method to develop the program. A garden is a secret place for quietness and central to great pleasure; it is a place for human enjoyment. Just as the Garden City Method (by Ebenezer Howard 1989) inspired COMMUNITY Ă’THEĂ’PROJECTĂ’GOALĂ’ISĂ’TOĂ’FULÂľLLĂ’THEĂ’PURPOSEĂ’BYĂ’CREATINGĂ’AĂ’hHEALINGĂ’INTERIORiĂ’ and build a better and joyful future for this generation.

By removing the existing center stairway, represent getting rid of our old heart, thoughts and mind, the design creates a sense of security starting from the resort entry with an awning. The entry is like the head of the project building which is like a bird resting on the slop. From the zigzag roof top, its building front symbolizes a READY TO šYÒBIRD Ò4HEÒENTRYÒPROVIDESÒAÒWELCOMINGÒANDÒREFRESHINGÒEXPERIENCEÒANDÒ leads people to explore their journey throughout the programs.

LEVEL 3 RESORT ENTRY PLAZA The design challenge of the project is to get a balance between the existing rectangular architecture and the organic nature. The design continues the structure system grid by planting tree columns in the plaza. Also importing circular shape to break through the sharp edge and blend with the arch shape from the architecture language. A bridge with thin water running underneath it connects the plaza with the resort lobby. The water separates the resort from the outside world and symbolizes one wading across the stream and washing out all worries from social anxiety. It also creates white noise and runs all the way from entry level 3 to the restaurant level 2.

LANDSCAPE MASTER PLAN The total area is about 24,000 sq. ft with a parking lot on the right before enter the building. The road separates into two and meet again at the lower level below all levels, which creates another access to the project. The lawn at the East side of the project can be accessed with a slope from the resort entry level (level 3) to the recreation entry level (lower level 1.) The lawn provides outdoor activities like BBQ for users. Tea garden on the West can be accessed from the long stairway while going through the front wing A Public Plaza. The stairway goes through three levels. Entry for the back wing (B) connects the two wings, which is the space as a mediator of the two structures. It is also between the lawn and the tea-garden. The master plan for the project is developed by analyzing activated and deactivated programs.

By taking advantage from windows from both sides for sunlight and using bamboo divider, it provides “transparency” between spaces. The workshop brings in local artists within the community and allows interactions with visitors through a get-away art experience program- it goes back to the core of the traditional art craft culture and pushes out the boundary and exposes to new generation. The workshop provides hands-on lessons of making traditional art crafts, which will also be merchandised in the gift shop. The local artists can rent the studio as a working place and hold classes for both visitors and residents.

LEVEL 4 GUEST SUITE Located on the highest level of the building, the guest suites get the best view and security. Spiral stairs within the loft rooms are inspired by a bird covering the body with its wings. Bed located at the loft level also symbolizes the way Taiwan Blue Magpie stores its food in between higher branches. People can be secluded and can look out to absorb the world from above level. By creating loft space in this 18- feet- high ceiling, one can get a great pleasant view from all of the rooms. It provides individuals and groups for a short-time stay. There are 12 suites in total, including loft, mini loft, double loft and ADA suites (no stairs but full-height ceiling for ADA suites.)

LEVEL 1 OPEN MARET, OPEN KITCHEN Following with the root of the community planning method, Garden City model, some of the residence in the community have continue growing their own plants and raising animals. People will share and sell food on the street within the town. In order to bring in a closer connection, the Open Market gathered the venders together. Not only sharing fresh food, but also bringing in people’s relationship by preparing dishes. Open kitchen provides a space for people where they can cook by themselves with ingredient they bought from the vendors around. The space is open to above to the restaurant level 3. It not only takes advantage of gaining sunlight, but also continues the architecture arch-window language from exterior. A bridge is connecting the two building from the open market level to the rooftop dining area.

The pool area can be adjusted open or close to outdoors by Nana wall. The waterfall idea comes from birds playing and splashing the water fountain for shower.

LOWER LEVEL COMMUNITY LIBEARY Main collection in the community library is research documents about Asian art from the residents and also include local ecology resources. The design take advantage of the view toward the mountain and create seating area all along the window side. Epically for the reading area have lounge seating hidden between book shelves. It create a place to reinstate your knowledge.

LANDSCAPE NATURE PATHWAY The Nature Pathway provides a slower pace for the resort entry experience from lower level. Especially for residents, it is a more easy access to the community library or to the creation spa. It also has two types of routes: walking path without stairs and it goes through stones meditation area hidden within; walking trail which gets to the atrium landscape space directly.

Anne Chia-Ching, Lin is an American born Taiwanese. With academic training in both Taiwan and the United States, it gives her wider perspective of the design world. She had challenged herself to blend the two worlds and two cultures into one and that becomes her strategy for design. Anne is always interested in handicraft work and drawings. It gives her an exhilarated feeling whenever her work gives warmth and delightful surprises to people.
