DESIGN CONCEPT
o Common connection
o Origin of place before man is in the context of nature
o Brick being of the earth and timber being of the trees
o Metaphor for decolonisation: balance between two sides
o Materials are contrasting but have equal importance
o Splitting of site
o Conservation
o A core belief of my own
STRUCTURE
o Brick vs timber
o Solid anchor (related to earth) vs light & tree-like (related to nature)
o Ground materials (brick paving vs timber deck)
o Structure and cladding (brick walls vs timber cladding over timber construction)
CIRCULATION (varied choices)
o Light enters through the roof guiding the way
1. Bypass
2. Experience directly all the way through, journeying up or down
3. Discover

o Ceiling heights for different intimacies and room functions
o E.g. quiet room
o Program adaptable
o Storage
o Folding/sliding doors
o Outside reflective areas
o Public and private
o Beneath the trees which connect us all
o No hierarchical layouts

TIMBER SLATS
o Individual merging, overlapping of cultures
o At the moment fragmented but trying to fit together
o Acknowledging differences but using that contrast to merge into beauty
