Whether it’s due to the recent pandemic, personal choice, anxiety, or loss, people of all ages and backgrounds have a unique experience with loneliness. With the rise and innovations within technology and online spaces, it has become easier to perpetuate one’s loneliness.
Lonely Together is based on the premise, that we all experience and deal with loneliness differently. Each zine features a character who has their own quirks, attributes, likes, and dislikes that respond to their unique forms of loneliness.
ISSUE 3: Kiko is a self-proclaimed hikikomori, a form of severe social withdrawal, and someone who doesn't leave the house for months at a time. But this doesn't mean he doesn’t like talking to people. He spends a lot of time on the r/lonely and r/hikokomori subreddits comforting others and confiding in them as well. When he's not writing paragraphs of his feelings to strangers online, he's writing them to his friend God, over discord. Sometimes, he wishes he were a girl, but he's not quite sure.
