An interesting plot with a few good twists and turns. Bathurst is a quite likeable gentleman sleuth and if one can, as always in these stories, suspend disbelief that Scotland Yard would act alongside a private individual then it is a quite credible tale. Nicely written but with very dated prose, I thought, but none the worse for that. One thing that I noticed is how polite everyone is. They bow to each other a lot. Daventry, the sidekick, is as usual, a bit slow on the uptake like Watson or Hastings... Not bad at all. (John)
