For Apple Apple was a cat who was loved by many. All you had to do was look at him and he stole your heart. He had one ear, three teeth and big beautiful eyes. He had a great big personality too. To know him was to love him. He was the favorite of many of the volunteers at the Community Cat Center. Apple, Apple, Apple! Or Apple Juice as he was fondly called by one of the directors of the center. I started at the center in June and was immediately taken in by his charismatic soul. He just loved to sit with people and watch them work. Enjoyed getting love and pets. Apple was diagnosed with feline leukemia. As time went by he was not getting adopted or even looked at by people. I volunteered on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Apple had to be kept separate from cats that were FELV negative. I would take him in the office with me while I did computer work. An instant bond was formed! I made him a cozy spot on the chair next to me. But no, he sat on my lap every time while I worked. He would just look up at me and purr. We had formed our weekly routine. One day in November I decided that Apple was coming home with me. I started hating leaving him at the center. Something told me he might not have much time left being that he was already five years old. I had a great room over the garage where he could live separate from my cats. I had coffee with him every single morning. I watched the news with him at night and sometimes movies. His favorite movie was Lord of the Rings. He had a wonderful sunny spot with lots of windows to see the lake and trees outside. Apple passed away peacefully at my home in March. I am so glad he got to spend his final days being loved and cared for. He knew what it felt like to have a home. We all do the best we can to help animals and that is all we can do. I received so much love from that
