Fall Female Sale!!

“TRADITION WITH A VISION & GUESTS”

Isabella - 10 yrs old 1st day of Grade 5

Rowan - 12 yrs old off to Grade 7

Erica - Grade 12 Grad & Friend “Joanne”

It’s been a few years now since we had our last female sale so it’s great to get back into the inner workings of doing a female sale. In our 2020 edition of the Tradition With A Vision you will notice we have made a few dramatic changes to our event. First off is the location - we are moving the sale about half an hour north of our old stomping grounds to Stavely, Alberta, which will be our new location. It is located between Claresholm and Nanton right on highway #2. One thing for sure though, our auctioneer, Brent Carey, and our advertising guy, Dave Callaway, won’t have far to travel! Another significant change is we have added some guests to come and do some business with us this year! Due to the closure of the Southern Alberta Club’s Annual “Chinook Classic” we invited them to be a part of ours. These cattle were all hand selected by either Darnell or myself so I do trust the quality of their consignments is for real. A long time ago when I first began my other company, “MSM”, a friend of mine gave me some advice. In fact his was the first sale Sherry & I managed on our own in 1998. His name was Don Maull, owner of 77 Stock Farm. He said to me one day when we were discussing his upcoming sale and the catalogue, “Bryan, good cattlemen make good cattle... not a computer!” To this day, I’ve taken that piece of knowledge he shared with me and I live by it in my own program here at Brylor Ranch. Two things I want to share with you all now reading this opening letter that pertains to the computer part. One of the biggest reasons why I get on so well with Grant at GRP is the fact that he’s a man with honor and integrity. You’ll notice that the photos of the cattle are not “filled in” nor “touched up”. He doesn’t remove anything on the cows that you can’t do with a set of clippers or a brush. These cattle are represented here in these next pages accurately by their photos. The other point I want to make is that you’ll notice I didn’t use the numbers generated by the CAA computer. I am not an “Angus One” fan by any means, especially the new system for feet, udders and temperament. Some of us have been doing that on our own for quite sometime now...it’s called culling! Take it for what it’s worth on these two points I have just made - that’s my opinion and my beliefs! Now about the set of cattle we have gathered up here today for your appraisal and approval. Brylor has everyone of their home raised bred heifers in our February program on offer in Tradition With A Vision 2020. You will also notice we have a large number of our shared heifers with our good friend and partner, Mark Chriss from Oregon (OTM). Both of us are kinda proud of where we are at in our program and we hope you will like our offering of sale cattle today. We will have a little bit of something in Stavely for everyone. Very good heifer calves, a few older cows, some frozen genetics in the form of embryos and an Assassin semen lot. I would be remiss on my job if I didn’t say this about Lot #1... she’s quite stunning! We are so looking forward to seeing who wants to be our new partner... OTM, Brylor and _TBD on Saturday, October 24, 2020, in Stavely, Alberta! We have a great representation of our industry’s frontline workers here today to assist with your selections. Lean on them as they are here to help. Please join us on Friday night at the Stavely Auction market for some hospitality too! Thank you in advance -

One of the most interesting young bulls we have raised and used in our herd in quite some time, Franchise is uniquely bred and has an awesome front end and muscle pattern to him. His feet are extremely strong and his first calves are tremendous - especially the heifers! His calving ease is remarkable too. Franchise 149F topped our bull sale last fall to WRAZ and Red Embers in Saskatchewan at $27,000 for a 1/2 interest. See Lots #32 & 33 for more on his dam and grandam.

A very cool young bull with a phenomenal look to him! We were looking for an outcross to our program to breed our sale heifers to and he’s what I came up with. $13,000 later in Howe’s sale he was owned by Brylor and On The Mark (OTM). By the end of the day in early April I had received over a half dozen phone calls stating how good this bull was... especially how good his feet were! We are looking forward to big things from this very well put together, sharp young sire!

Two springs ago in my searches for a herdbull I came across this super dark, very well made and well bred bull. I liked the job U2 Renown was doing and being very insistent on having a great cow behind a herdbull... Linett 938W is awesome! She has a feature flush in the upcoming Red Roundup. We are expecting big things from Freeway down the road and so far all systems are a go on his first calves.

A few years back on my Red Round-up selection tour I came across this awesome, outcross massive herd bull. He looked fantastic out in Phil Birnies field... and then he started to move! I could hardly believe how something like him could travel! Wow! I had to have a piece of him and then I saw his black/red carrier dam out of SAV Final Answer - that sealed the deal! His first calves born her at Brylor Ranch were ludicrously little at birth out of our big strong cowherd, but the grow in them blew me away. I cannot wait for my commercial customers to see his sons this fall!

If you believe in numbers then this bull is the one for you! He was purchased as a $10,000 USD yearling from Westphals’ in Montana. He was used very heavily at Brylor for four different breeding groups in his first two years with us. He is a terrific breeding bull with the most amazing footwear you could ask for. Next Step’s sons have been extremely well received in our bull sales and we love the first daughter now in production. They are some of our best young cows. Next Step sold as an older bull last spring for $25,000 to Phil Birnie.

Since introducing this magnificent herd bull to our program a couple of years ago, we have no regrets for having done so. He has risen to the challenge of being a high dollar bull and exceeded expectations in all categories. He was the $77,500 high seller for Cockburns’ and then we syndicated him to several of the best known Red Angus breeders in Canada. He was, in fact, the most heavily used Red bull in all of Canada according to the Canadian Angus Association’s “Top 25” list this spring. Our first set of bulls sold last fall and were very well received by our commercial customers. The second high seller was a son to Granum Colony at $14,000. We are really enthused to see his first daughters in production as we feel they will have a lot to offer to the entire industry. This bull has matured into one of the most photogenic, gentle giants of a herdsire that I’ve seen in quite some time. He has amazing length of body and yet, with all his muscle mass he calves very well too! Assassin now resides with our new partner, WRAZ. He was a huge hit on the Southeast Saskatchewan Showcase Tour this summer.

SEMEN PACkAgES We are going to to offer three different 50 straw packs on Assassin 624D this fall and next spring. No more semen will be offered on Assassin for the spring 2021 breeding season in Canada!

Consider this... if we are doing anything right in our breeding program, the next generation is supposed to be better than the last. That’s mind altering to think this pretty young Poker Face daughter could be better than her mother!! Her sire was the first ever Black/Red carrier lot to sell at the mighty Red Roundup Sale for $27,000. We only got a few calves last year as he was very unfortunately lost to us way too early.

4 Selling a Full 1/3 Interest and Possession

4 Brylor will retain a 1/3 interest and OTM will retain a 1/3 interest

4 If an interested party wants us to continue managing her for you we would do so. 4 If an interested party would like to buy all of her double the bid price on sale day and you own 100% of her we would then only retain 10 embryos from her lifetime.

Exposed: April 20 - May 12, 2020 to Red Coburn Assassin 642D

This absolutely drop dead gorgeous two year old female could have been Lot #1 in another sale this fall too, I believe... maybe if I had a better relationship with the lot selector!! For a brief, weak moment I also considered phoning my good friend, Nate Marin, and seeing if he wanted to dust off the ole rice root brush and shine up the show halter once more. This pair would have gotten some attention! I called my buddy, Seth Leachman, too and asked him if all the Franchise daughters had udders like 613F’s and he told me they all looked pretty nice. She comes by her beauty pretty honestly being a Mulberry/Essence combo on the dam’s side. One just knows Cindy Crawford’s and Christie Brinkley’s own daughters have a decent chance of being pretty too!

408C’s full sister, 72A, sold in our “Blizzard Sale” in 2013 to Iowa for $19,250. Their dam, 230U, was the Reserve Senior Yearling Heifer Champion at the World Angus Forum 2009. Then further back you have Essence 42G, the $50,000 1/2 interest cow that won the Supreme deal at Agribition in 1999.

Franchise had some attention this spring as sons topped Mar Mac at ‘20 and one topped our sale last fall at ‘27.

Mark and I are pretty proud of this young superstar. She’s had her picture taken a lot already this summer and I’m sure that will continue on as she progresses. The Assassin calf inside her won’t hurt her chances of doing it again next February either.

A typical Mulberry daughter! Big & powerful, has a gorgeous udder and can produce the lights out. We have four daughters in our program and Luenburghs have one as well. Granum Colony paid $11,000 for a son of hers a few years back too. The Service Sire, Resource, has lit it up big time the last couple of years in both sexes. The bulls have sold very strongly including the $130,000 Township bull to DVC of Sundre. The daughters as heifer calves in the U2 Dispersal must have averaged over 10!

In all of our years of having a female sale (this would’ve been our 49th had we kept the streak going!), this bred heifer would rank up in the top 3 or 4 we have ever sold! That’s quite a statement when you recall Olivia 2T ($56.600), Annie 240U ($16,000), Lakme 204S ($21,000), Tinsel 48H ($30,000), Bonita 175S & 176S ($18,000 each) and Vidalia 24Y ($19,000 US). This particular heifer reminds me so much of her dam, 24Y, at the same age. Beautifully sculpted head and front and very easy to get along with, lots of muscle and depth and you just know her udder structure will be superb. Study these Assassin daughters, too, for their great feminity and overall profile and they are good cattle bred to the $13,000 flawless footed Service Sire from Howes’, Head Games 56G.

Interesting story here how these next two calves came about... I put together a group of 8 breeders last fall to try and buy a couple head out of the U2 Dispersal. We managed to buy eleven pregnant recips on the first day of the sale and ended up with 3 heifers and 7 bulls - two of which are being marketed here today in Lots #6 & #7. Note - there will be a Choice Lot of all 7 bull calves in Brylor’s 50th Bull Sale on December 4th. Two full ET brothers to 201H sold this spring for $28,000 and $18,000 in Ungers’ bull sale. The dam, Envious 147X, sold for $17,500 at10 years of age. She’s also the dam to Renown 193C (sire of Freeway) and a full sister to 201H sold at $10,000 in the Dispersal.

I wanted to feature a couple really stellar cows out of our main cowherd (April/May calvers). Luluwill is a strong contender in that group for profile, udder structure and a terrific outcross pedigree. We bought the Get-A-Long cowherd in the spring of 2012 and when this heifer calf jumped off the truck, she’s never looked back. Her dam was a Red Roundup feature cow in 2006 to Dennis & Shelly Ericson. We still have a maternal sister to fill the void when 128Z leaves (now there’s a voice from the past - none of us will ever forget “Doc” Frank Piorer of Brash Creek Red Angus in BC). Iceman left us some great females and he also sired two sons for us in 2014 at $29,500 each. A full sister to Marshall was the 2018 Agribition Heifer Calf Champion and sold to Blairs for $15,500.

You talk about production... her last two bull calves weaned off at over 900 lbs each in September (January & February bull calves). She also had a female sell to Perry Oliver last fall. 61A’s dam was a Mulberry & New Trend combination which has been deadly for us in the past. 83L was a $10,000 bred heifer from Gloria Blades in an All A.I’ed Sale in Olds in 2002. I liked the Toast son she was sired by too. He saw service at both Brylor and Coyote Lake Cattle Co at Cardston. Marshall has two feature maternal sisters from Mar Mac in Red Roundup 2020.

3T - FULL SISTER TO DAM OF LOT #13

A.I.ed: April 29 to Red Brylor OTM Franchise 149F Exposed: May 1 - June 3 to Red Howe Head Games 56G

This whole Nikita family has been pretty good to us. The dam, 97Y, came to us from Bob & Lance Marcer in BC. I bought their whole herd in 2015 just to get 97Y and her full sister, 21Y, in my herd. They are ET sisters to the $27,000 Mulberry son, 44B, at Y Coulee and U2 last fall. Also another full sister was 3T, a donor for Brylor. The original Nikita was a past Red Round-up bred heifer at $6400 back in 2004. There was one more Nikita to note - she was a Black/Red Carrier cow, 90U, that sold 1/2 interest to Griffins in Iowa at $11,000 back in ‘09. We have four daughters in our herd from 97Y. Look for the feature heifer in Lot #22 from 21Y. To give you and idea of how powerful 8G is, back in March on our yearling weights she had an actual weight of 1095 on March 22. 97Y herself was weighing well over a ton last fall. A.I.’ed to a bright new star in Franchise 149F... mated to a Nikita... just sit back and watch what “ROI” means!

A pregnant recip - 3 year old Red/Simmie Cross cow Mating of 24Y x Red MRLA Upload Due: February 7, 2021 There are two reasons for selling this mating in the Tradition With a Vision 2020:

1. The recip just happens to be the dam of Lot #7, the 202H heifer calf AND

2. We are featuring the 24Y cow this year see Lot #5 and Lot #29

I’d rank her as maybe the top 1 or 2 daughters of Ghostrider ever and he has sired some great ones! She raised a $14,000USD heifer to Stephens in Arkansas. #34 HEIFER CALF - RED SIM / ANGUS

Note - Registration eligible as a halfblood at the CSA office if the new buyer so wishes.

Here’s a project that I’m pretty pumped up about! I absolutely love these Red Sim/Angus females we have been raising for a few years now. Now, that being said... all of her half sibs (bull calves) aren’t bull calves anymore! But they are one helluva set of steers! We have had a lot of visitors through our sale cows the past couple of weeks and all that have seen this heifer calf very much appreciate her for what she is... a stunning Red halfblood female. In the past few years a Black halfblood female sold for $36,000 (Motive event) and some at FNL have traded for up to $20,000. The sire, 75F, was Deegs second high seller two years ago at $9750. He has left a set of calves at Brylor Ranch that are off the charts! Watch for more heifer calves this fall at Fort Mcleod, our 50th Anniversary Bull Sale! You will also want very much to see this heifer’s beautiful mother, Faye 178B, on display on October 24th for the Tradition With A Vision & Guests sale at Stavely, Alberta!

Welcome to the Tradition with a Vision Fall Female Sale. When Bryan approached us with the idea of joining forces with some selected guests for a “Brylor Ranch & Guests Sale” we jumped at the idea. The end result of this is a extremely strong set of Red and Black Angus Cattle. On offer this year is 60 lots consisting of donor cow prospects, bred heifers, fancy heifer calves and frozen genetics.

The cows on offer are truly a great set with some big time donor females in this group. Take advantage of being able to buy a “proven” female from one of the most progressive herds in the country. The possibilities here are endless. The bred heifers are nothing short of fantastic in both the red an black divisions. The Brylor bred heifers will be very appreciated by even the most critical of cattlemen. Bryan has held nothing back on quality and his offering you a set of bred heifers that he should be very proud of sharing with the industry. The bred heifers in the guest side of the sale are taken right off the top of their respective programs. Please do not overlook this group as it consist of some of the best females you will find throughout the industry. The heifer calves on offer are fancy, yet powerful in both the Brylor and Guest offerings. These heifers are sired by breed leading bulls and many are out of some of the best cows the industry has to offer. This gives these heifer calves the upmost potential for being true matrons of the Angus breed. Look to this group for your next show heifer to stack up the banners or simply take them home and breed them to the bull of your choice for a greater return on investment.

We would like to thank Bryan and Sherry from Brylor Ranch as well as all of these great guest consignors for letting us be a part of this event. I would also like to thank Bryan and Sherry on behalf of the guests consignors for inviting them all into their Tradition With A Vision sale. Nothing is held back and all of these great programs are offering their very best genetics right from the heart of their respective herds. I encourage you to call every consignor to discuss their offerings with them personally.

Please plan on joining us on October 24th, at the Stavely Auction Mart for the Brylor Ranch and Guests Tradition with a Vision Sale. If for any reason you are unable to attend, all of us at First Class Cattle Marketing will be very familiar with the offering and it would be our pleasure to assist you in a very professional and confidential manner in purchasing your next Angus female or frozen genetics.

We hope everyone has a great fall and sale season!

Regards,

Darnell Fornwald First Class Cattle Marketing firstclasscattlemarketing@gmail.com

This is a long deep feminine female whom follows in the Yoakam line of cows we have originating from the Blades Angus program. These cows have been some of the most sure footed good uddered cows in our herd. The sire Rickards Red has now proven himself to provide outstanding bulls and heifers calves, kind of rare IMO. His thickness and quiet demeanor is a nice heritable trait. Yoakam was our highest weighing in heifer at weaning time at 748 lbs. so something is working!

This momma has done a flawless job raising Delta Gold Edge 405H she is going to develop into a pretty wicked bred heifer, and even cooler cow - one that carries power and depth in all the right places! You have to love 405’s front end and face, it is one of those females that you could sit and look at all day. She is one you will want to take advantage of, to grow that sound cow herd with.

Introducing…. 406H!!

This young lady is going to make a cool cow. She carries muscle perfectly where a heifer should, with a back end that you have to appreciate. Feet always come first followed by udders and her dam, U2 Little De Lake 254E, is an example of a great udder both in structure and suspension. A maternal pair that has been passed on from generation to generation. This heifer likes to show her feminine confirmation off and has desirable docaility.

This very unique dark cherry red female is a spitting image of her dam, U2 Starlet 403F, who is big barreled and great footed. Granddam, U2 Starlet 91B, produced a calving ease bull who sold in 2018 for $9 500 and is working in Saskatchewan. This open heifer is going to be a bigger framed momma cow. Here is the perfect opportunity to increase your herd’s diversity by adding this female to your program, one that will go on to make those unique dark colored bulls.

If you like your cows soggy and soft made, you will really like Rack Queen 6F. She comes by her style natually as did her sire, Fraser Pokerface 613D who made his debut at Red Roundup in 2017. Queen 6F has a very quiet disposition, great set of feet and is going to make a very good addition to any herd! She is A.I. bred to KJH Power Take Off and pasture exposed to ACC Big Shot. We have already seen what PTO and Big Shot can do with this year’s calf crop, Their calves have been outstanding right from the start. Can you imagine the possibilities if her calf comes out RED!!

Another Big Shot sired heifer that we hate to part with. Rouge 231H is one of those heifers you will lay awake in April wondering how you will want to breed her. 231H’s dam, 13A, is a wide based powerful made cow with a great set of feet and udder quality. The dam of this heifer is Kathy’s favorite cow on the place. We sure wished we had more of this great heifer and we will have a hard time parting with her, but we know she is going to impress her new owner!

LOT #51 - RED RACK KARMA 228H

Our red heifer lots offered this year were not chosen by mistake and truly represent the direction we want to take our herd. With the attributes of ACC Big Shot, Karma 228H won’t disappoint. She carries herself on a great set of feet and is developing into a tremendous individual to walk your pasture. We know what her dam, 88X, has done for us constantly every year. Karma 228H has a stacked pedigree and EPD’s behind her. Take a good look at this heifer.
