our turnout to our booth at Ag Days. We are continuing to have lots of questions and interest in the Rancher Endorsed tag program. Thank you to Cheryl Hazenberg, who was on hand to sell tags at the booth. Feeder calf prices are at a level that Manitoba cattle producers have not seen in years so we are hoping all that enthusiasm will carry into the Bull Sale season which is just around the corner. Manitoba Angus has some exciting events happening again this year. We are very pleased that the CJAA Showdown will be held in Virden Manitoba this July. The Manitoba Angus Association will hold its Gold Pen Summer Show at Heartland in Virden on Thursday, July 17th, 2014. This will be to give the parents attending Showdown, something to do while

Ontario Angus Association

by Allan Hargrave ~ President, Ontario Angus Association

My first year as President has just finished with the Ontario Angus. Ontario Angus hosted a very successful National Convention turning a nice profit that we made a donation of $1500 to the Cameron McTaggart Scholarship Fund for a future Angus Breeder. Many other events happened in 2013, I would like to thank the board of directors and our Secretary/Treasurer Julie Smith for their help in making 2013 successful. We just held our Annual General Meeting hosted by the Ottawa Valley Angus Club. Awards for our Ontario Show Female Soo Line Annie K 1094 owned by Vos Vegas and Enright Farms, 2013 Show Bull of the Year Brantnor Regal 10Z owned by Brantnor Angus. These are the results of shows hosted by each of the 5 regions in Ontario.

Quebec Angus Association

This will be my last column in Angus World and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Directors of the Quebec Angus Association for their contributions and dedication to the Board. Ryan Currie, Pierre Laberge, Chris Bushey and Donna Donaldson have volunteered many hours for the

the Juniors are in their non cattle competitions. So make your plans now to come with your Junior Angus members to Showdown and the MB summer Gold Show. We have some new young board members on the Manitoba Angus board this year and we are happy to have them, to hopefully bring some fresh new ideas to the table. Remember the Manitoba Angus breeders are always happy to see anyone from other parts of Canada. If you are planning a trip this way, check out the herd directory on the website www.mbangus.ca Until then, good luck through the calving season and bull sales. We look forward to seeing you down the road.

We also presented Honorary President to Hank VanSlot, Commercial Breeder of the year to Joan Peters and Purebred Breeder to Harprey Farms, thanks for the support of fellow breeders. Cheryl Hazenberg represented the Canadian Angus and gave a report on the activities in Calgary. Cheryl also gave a presentation on genomics. I was re-elected for President for 2nd year with Andy Fraser being 1st Vice-President. Looking forward to 2014 with a new crop of calves coming and representing the Ontario at National Convention in Moose Jaw, SK. Any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.

benefit of the members. I would also like to thank Cynthia Jackson, the QAA Secretary for all her work as well as Arlene Brock for the six months she spent as Treasurer. I am leaving the finances of the QAA in excellent condition for the first time in many years and hope the excess funds will be used in the coming years for the benefit of the members. This has been a long cold winter in Quebec with terrible ice storms and power outages. It has been a challenge to keep the cattle water bowls running. The price of cattle in Quebec has never been higher so that helps compensate for those cold trips to the barn. The next Angus Green Tag sales are in mid February and I am sure there will be high demand there for Angus genetics. There will be two Angus Gold Shows in Quebec this year: Labour Day weekend at Shawville Fair and Thanksgiving weekend at Victoriville. The show in Shawville is new this year and we hope to attract exhibitors from Quebec and Ontario as Shawville is

very near Ontario. If you would like information about the show in Shawville, please contact Ryan Currie. The Quebec Annual Meeting will take place at the beginning of February and I am hoping that a date for a Quebec Picnic will be announced at the meeting. The picnic in 2013 was very well attended and it is my hope that this tradition will be maintained. I am cruising very close to 80 and Donna and I have decided that we no longer want to get up all night in the cold winter for calving so we have sold the JD Farms herd to Ryan Currie. We have maintained a half ownership in a few of our favourite cows. I hope to see some of you at the shows this summer as I am still a dedicated Angus enthusiast, just not such a hands-on one!
