Britpop 20th Anniversary

Dj

When I was asked to DJ at Britpop, I obviously obliged. After all, I had been planning the setlist weeks before I had even been asked to DJ and I wasn’t going to let an opportunity of that kind to just pass by After two years of university life without Britpop, it was finally going to happen.

The realization of “holy shit, Britpop is actually happening like right now” really finally kicked in when me and my DJing buddy Niko set foot into Dynamo a couple hours before the festivities began. Of course, I was slightly nervous (this was my first live DJ performance of all time, after all), but with Niko’s assistance and my confidence in my setlist I had zero doubts about the sets going perfectly.

From near the entrance, I hear a call: “Get ready!” I start my first hour-long set From the very first moments of that set until the end of my second set, I was on cloud nine. I was over the moon. I have run out of idioms and superlatives to describe how absolutely incredible DJing Britpop was. Seeing people screaming out lyrics, dancing and having fun was such an unbelievable feeling and having people enjoy the music was the best reward I could’ve asked for.

To put it briefly, Britpop was one of the best nights of my life Bloody brilliant

Board

I had only heard legends of an event called Britpop when I started my career on the board. In my mind it was just another night club party, but when I saw the line in front of Dynamo before the festivities started, I knew immediately that I had been wrong. It was so much more than that.

A tradition from the early 2000’s, a celebration of British music and of course, Anglica as well Never in my life have I heard so many people scream Wonderwall at the same time. Seeing the joy on Aapo’s face when I walked in is forever burned into my memory You could be having a conversation with a friend, turn around and start another one with another Anglican. I must’ve spoken to over 50 people that night!

Organizing the event was fun and gave us all a sense of pride towards our community From the beautiful overall patch resembling London Underground, made by our very own Lotta Viitala to the incredible DJ’s Aapo and Niko and to all you beautiful Anglicans, Britpop’s 20th anniversary was a success!
