Words from the chair

Happy May Day!

Another academic year is soon behind us and we have finally arrived at the peak of celebrations, the mother of all shenanigans: Vappu!

As I taste the noble sima drink on my lips, I find myself looking back on the year; and what a year it has been! Anglicans had to give its bittersweet goodbye to Signum’s Kaffila and move to Arcanum, where we now share the student space with other student organisations of humanities. We should see this as a chance to get to know students from different organisations better, cooperate with one another and even create new friendships.

As I pour myself another drink, I find myself being filled with joy, and honour, as I was fortunate to be the chair when we had our 65th anniversary dinner in the historical venue of Turku Castle. A celebration worthy of glorious Anglica, a night to remember. The work that was done by Anglicans is something that shows the spirit of teamwork we have here. By pulling the same rope, we can achieve wonderful things together.

As I pour myself a third drink *hic*, I feel lucky to have met unbelievable people in my time here. People that I’m fortunate to call my friends I bet that I’m not alone on this one I bet there are people you have found in our community, people who you trust with all your heart and people who make you laugh your eyes out.

Az I pour meself *hic* a drink, I start wonder what will autumn bring. I sincerely hope we’ll meet new people who are eager to help this organisation to thrive Anglica wouldn’t be anything without its members. From first year students to n-year students; I salute each and every one of you!

*hic* As I get close to the bottom of this bottle, I feel like I should mention that May Day is not the time to stress over your studies. The assignments aren’t going anywhere, exam rooms will have plenty of openings during the summer. Relax, take a load off and lift your metaphorical feet.

What I need you to do now is to have an absolutely amazing May Day! Eat a munkki, drink responsibly and be proud to be an Anglican!

Yours truly, Niiko
