Editorial
from Baccanalia 2023
by Anglica
Happy, happy, happy May Day friends!
When I first expressed my interest in becoming the editor-in-chief for Baccanalia 2023, I didn’t realize that would mean I would be writing the editorial as well. It did take me quite some time to think about what I should say here (no, you won’t find “what is an editorial” from my Google search history and if you do, that wasn’t me) but anyways, here we go.

I’ve been a part of Baccanalia’s editorial team since my Freshman year, so this will be my 4th year doing it. As a fresher I had the courage to only do a simple bingo sheet, because I didn’t trust my skills at all. The year after that, I started taking a bit more responsibility - short chunks of text here and there This, however, will be the first, real serious, big-boy article that is mine and mine only (I did write a review about some tasteful and not at all cursed wiener sandwiches, but I don’t think that counts.) So this is truly a proud moment for scrubby old me, and I am honored to have been given this responsibility.
First I want to thank our amazing editorial team: we were legit fire, and I’m so proud of all of us Right from the first meeting I felt this huge, inspirational atmosphere, and bombastic article ideas were thrown all around It felt like everyone was very into it and excited to start writing together what would be our best Baccanalia publication yet (not a biased opinion). This year’s theme - Stairway to Arcanum & 65 years of Anglica - was pretty much clear from the beginning, and building the magazine around that theme felt really easy and natural. But what will you actually find between these glorious pages?
Well, the old favorites are, of course, here again You will get to know Anglica’s board a bit more, you get to dive deep into a Fresher’s first year in the academia, and learn about our beloved professor Pekka Lintunen in an interview-type-of-article There’s a crossword puzzle to put those brain cells in use, a horoscope that’ll surely determine your future for you, the dadaistic farce to…well, I can’t really say anything about that. You’ll learn about Anglica’s newest club ASKI, hear about all the glory and magnificence of our 65th anniversary celebration, and read about our biggest and bluest crossdisciplinary event. I also have to mention a very special article on page 21 that we got the privilege to do this year: an interview with one of the actual founders of Anglica ry! How incredible is that?! For those who crave humor and sarcasm, we have something in store for you as well. I can’t possibly fit everything in here, but I recommend that you simply delve into the magazine in your hands and read - you won’t be disappointed. I wish all of you an amazing read and even better summer - we’ve all earned it.
Happy, probably hungover as you read this, and sincerely yours,
Lettis
