Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

The story of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a tale that follows the journey of a dreamer. Joseph is the son of Jacob and one of twelve brothers. He is given a coat of many colors by his father, which is symbolic of his favor and an object of his brothers’ jealousy. The brothers decide to sell Joseph into slavery after initially plotting to have him killed. Convincing their father that his favorite son has died, they reveal his tattered coat and believe that they are rid of him once and for all. From his homeland of Canaan, Joseph is taken to Egypt where he becomes the slave of Egyptian millionaire Potiphar and earns his trust. Managing his household, he soon has to ward off the affections of Potiphar’s wife. Enraged and unwilling to assess the situation, Potiphar has Joseph thrown into jail where he interprets the dreams of his cellmates. The prisoners are awed by his hidden talents of interpretation and encourage Joseph to pursue dreams of his own.

Joseph’s fortunes take a turn for the better as the Pharaoh hears rumors of his talent. Having strange recurring dreams about cows and ears of corn, the Pharaoh asks Joseph what his mysterious dreams could mean. Joseph determines that they are omens of a famine that will swipe the land in seven years. This foresight allows actions to be made to prevent devastation and grants Joseph a position as the second most powerful man in Egypt. Back in Canaan, Joseph’s brothers are afflicted by starvation and regret their treatment of Joseph. Hearing of the prosperity of Egypt, they unknowingly ask for Joseph’s help. He devises a test to see if his brothers have changed their ways, and finally reveals himself donning his Technicolor dreamcoat once again.

Way, way back many centuries ago... ...I first performed in this show at the age of 10 in school! Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat holds a very special place in my heart—it was the first show I ever performed in, the first show I musical-directed, and, sadly, the show that had to be canceled due to COVID-19.

Audition dates & venue Auditions will be held at the Angles Theatre

Sunday 5th January

The audition day will be split into groups - please check on the following pages the times required.

If you are only auditioning to be in the young company/choir, you will only need to attend between 9am and 11am. If you are also wanting to audition for the dance team or principal role, you will not need to attend until 11:30am. All auditioning for the dance team or a principal will also be considered for a place in the young company/choir if unsuccessful.

Please wear comfortable clothing to be able to move and dance shoes are highly recommend within our dance studio space.

SOCKS & BARE FEET are not acceptable under any circumstance.

Please note, we will assign the role of dance captain to one of the dance team, they will be responsible for learning the routines alongside the choreographer and be willing to help if any member of the cast has questions, If would like to be considered for this role please speak to the production team on the day.

Cast announcement Everyone will be informed out the audition outcome via email once casting is completed, we hope to inform everyone by Friday 10th January. Please note if you are successful we will ask for you to respond via email to confirm you are happy to accept your place within the cast.

Auditions will take place in the dance studio within a closed setting

(i.e only the audition panel will be present at time of audition.)

Minimum age is 9 by the first performance.

Maximum age is 19

Auditions, rehearsal period and performances will be on an unpaid/volunteer basis.

The audition panel will be made up of members of the production team.

We will cast the production with equal opportunity and we will not discriminate or in away treat anyone less favourable. We acknowledge that some casting choices will be based on the demands of the script and production itself.

We will be recording all auditions and this will be used when choosing our cast, once auditions are complete we will then delete this footage.

Unfortunately we are unable to offer an alternative audition date, however we will be able to accept video auditions which must be sent in to us by 14:00 on Sunday 5th January (Any videos submitted after this time will not be accepted).

All Rehearsals will be held at The Angles Theatre, Wisbech.

A full rehearsal schedule will be provided once all cast members have accepted their roles.

Please let us know of any dates you cannot make on the registration sign up form.

The rehearsal schedule could possibly alter as we get closer to opening night with additional rehearsals added if required.

Cast will be required to bring a packed lunch.

A WhatsApp community will be set up. This will enable the production team to share information with you.

The Brothers

Any gender. Playing age 14+

Any gender. Playing age 12 to 19

is considered a god on earth. Usually played in the style of Elvis. This part will double as Joseph and his brothers father - Jacob,

Isaacher, Asher, Dan Zebulun Gad, Benjamin, Judah - although acting usually as a group, have their own different personalities, talents, and flaw.

As a group they sell Joseph into slavery, but as individuals they deal with the following years and how they can make amends. They sing and dance their way through many situations and places, and also double as Egyptians in many cases.

All brothers have solo lines, so will need to do a solo audition.

A powerful and rich Egyptian, Potiphar purchases Joseph and puts him to work in his household. This part will be doubled with a brother.

Beautiful and scheming, Mrs. Potiphar tries to seduce Joseph (unsuccessfully).
