Pamela Sandlant: Bringing community to school in Anglesea. ―Some people were born to teach‖, observed a wise teaching friend of mine recently, ―…and some just never get it!‖, she added wryly. Fortunately for our local community, Anglesea Primary School Principal, Pamela Sandlant, is not only one of those naturally gifted teachers, she is something even rarer, an inspirational educational leader and administrator. Growing up in Lexton, a small farming community 30 minutes drive north of Ballarat, Pamela knew from the age of five she wanted to be a teacher. She married Robert, the boy ―across the paddock‖, graduated with her Bachelor of Education, and started her teaching career all in the same year. For the next nine years Robert worked the farm in Lexton, and Pamela travelled to her new job in nearby Avoca. Pamela and Robert purchased a farm and moved to Lake Bolac in 1986. Pamela was promoted to a leadership role at Lake Bolac Primary School where she eventually became the school Principal. They moved back to the farm in Lexton in 2000 where both Robert and Pamela are from fourth generation Lexton families. ―When I started work in Anglesea, we thought about making a permanent ‗sea change‘ but Robert loves the farm and has expanded the business which keeps him very busy‖, Pamela

I am frequently here at school until after 7, so it is nice to be able to go home to Point Roadknight and only have me to look after, to have the flexibility to eat an evening meal, and keep working if I have to.‖
