ANGIE ORTIZ

GROUP PROJECT
This project is intended to connect the Shawty town of la Perla with the city of old San Juan. Through a community center and a hostel taking into consider ation the site conditions like the sun's path, orienta tion, and wind.
The concept is focused on music, art, food, and socialization. And how this creates a more diverse and inclusive community.
San Juan is known for its shipping port and old ship ping containers; part of the concept focuses on reus ing these elements in the program of the building.
Over the next hundred years, our landscape is going to change radically. Cities like New York, Miami, and Fort Lauderdale are expected to have heavy floods. Adaptation to climate change is essential for this project. In the design process for Fire Station, many factors were considered, like a resilient structure for floods and passive design strategies.
This project merges the idea of movement in a gradual linear way. The brain coral and its geometric pattern (differential growth) was a source of inspiration for the development of this project. The visitor will appreciate and notice the beauty of "movement", in the different spaces designed with the inspiration of the brain coral. When the guest arrives at the site, they will experience different parts of the building, seeing how the space transforms, making the visitor feel multiple emotions.

Our senses dictate our perception of reality and what we experience on a day-to-day basis. Our vision collects a vast amount of information that we process to appraise the world and understand it. One of the many wonders that our sight can offer us is perceiving color.
As Josef Albers explains, experiencing color can affect our perception. Colors can change depending on their interaction with one another. For instance, when we paint an orange surface with a yellow square in the middle, the same yellow square will appear as a different color if the background color is changed to a different tone.
Inspired by the theories of Joseph Albers, especially his interaction with color, in which he explains how experiencing color can affect our perception. My pro posal for the park was to create a new prototype of what a garden could be with the interaction of color. The idea is to create a space of meditation, relaxation, and enjoyment. The garden has different stations inspired by a Japa nese garden; in the case of this proposal, each sta tion is going to have a different color that will change the perception of the user.
Fort Lauderdale is known for its high poverty and homelessness rates. With this project, the idea is to provide a safe space where a community can flourish. The building is a mixed program, including spaces to live, work, and relax in a healthy environment. The residential tower is set to create an inclusive and positive environment that creates a sense of community.
