about me

I joined WRA as an intern in the summer of 2021 and continued this position throughout my entire last year of interior design school. Alongside my internship, I held many executive roles for various design groups at my university and was chosen as 1 of the 12 students to represent Okstate’s entire interior design degree program for our CIDA accreditation reviews.

After graduating with my bachelor’s at Oklahoma State University in May 2022, I joined WRA as a fulltime Interior Designer. Since then, I have been able to take the reigns on two new build state-of-the-art school projects and six renovation projects.

To advance in my title, I plan to take my first NCIDQ exam in 04/23

flight center

An acoustically treated facility that will assist in recruiting and retaining the best students, faculty and instructors. The new flight center should “facilitate innovation and elevate our reputation”. The Aviation complex should be “an OSU Landmark”. The new facilitate should “Physically reflect the excellence, pride and tradition by which OSU Aviation is already known”. “Creating this flagship facility is among the University’s top priorities.”

concept

To learn how a bird is to fly, an individual must understand that it does not only come from practice but from within the organism itself. The glorious act of flight would not be possible if the inner facets do not collaborate and operate as a foundation. When these attributes come together, only then, one will witness this breathtaking performance in the sky.

Manifestations

During the conceptual design process, I was to develop manifestations that would help me enforce my concept. Five manifestations were chosen in total. Light neutral colors, natural woods, curvilinear elements, porous elements, and layers

07 | student lounge

light neutral colors

The light achromatic color scheme will provoke an over all sense of calmness and reflect the lightness of air in the over all design.

natural woods

The inclusion of natural wood materials helps reflect the basic construction materials of a plane. Wood Materials will be used in ceilng systems, acoustic parametric systems, as well as casework.

curvilinear elements

The use of curvilinear elements will reflect the fluid dynamics that a plane or a bird needs to move through the air. This will be manifested through the curvature of furnishings and through acoustic ceiling systems.

porous elements

The porous appearance will reflect the hollowness of the bones of birds and the wood types that are use to construct planes. This idea will be manifested through acoustic wall systems layers

One of the attributes that birds need in order to fly are feathers that usually present themselves in layers on the body of the bird.

library lawn

The site of this project is based on the campus of Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The university is looking for new way to utilize the grounds of Edmond Low Library Lawn. The designer is to create outdoor spaces where students, prospecting students, faculty, and alumni can congregate. The new site will fit end user needs and will intergrate the use of sculptural elements.

site visits

Fortuitously, I was able to easily preform site visits and study the behaviors of people when they interacted with the site. Upon observation, I noticed that when students looked as if they were in a hurry, they would walk across the grass to minimize their travel distance. However, students who were not in a rush to get from class to class would often be found sitting beside each other on the grass engaging in conversation.

axis of transition

The goal for this design was to minimize the amount of travel distance for students by creating direct axis that are aligned with the most used buildings on campus. In the intersection of these axis, the communal spaces fell into place. It felt that it was important to create moments of pause along this journey for students who want to sit and chat with their friends, study, view the sculpture, and feel at peace with the surrounding environment.

pace facility

The Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) is a growing provider of services for frail older adults nationwide. PACE settings provide an innovative day setting alternative to care in nursing homes. The hub of the PACE program is the PACE day center, a facility which provides health services, care coordination, nutrition, activities, family services and administrative support all under one roof.

activity room

01 activity room 02 activity room

The historic restoration of the old Lions Club in Downtown Stillwater will house the new PACE facility, and will aim to provide a sense of community and promote overall the health and wellbeing for eligible participants and staff. This will be achieved by providing activities that promote independence, distinguishing areas and shapes, and having a space that is easy for PACE participants to navigate through an efficient layout.

A variety of spaces in which participants do things that provide them with pleasure, success, a sense of usefulness, and/or as normal a level of functioning as possible. Participants spend the majority of their time in one or more of these activity spaces Participants should enjoy the time they spend here. Areas should be able to accommodate formal (group) activities, public events, and private time. In almost all centers, activity rooms are also used for dining. 03

wayfinding

Dementia friendly wayfinding will be utilized to make navigation of the facility easy, and this will reduce frustration in the patients therefor increasing staff morale and productivity. Acheived through the use of signage and color coding throughout the facility.

lighting

The space will be designed to allow for as much natural light as possible to filter into the building, and where natural light is not possible, light fixtures will be utilized that mimic natural light. color

Shades of red and orange will be used throughout the activity and nutrition spaces for their benefits to the users. Red stimulates appetite, orange evokes happiness and enthusiasm.

socializing Group activity and interaction will be promoted by having plenty of areas that can be utilized by multiple people at once, and allow for adaptability so a variety of stimulating activities can take place.

BA event center

The proposed project consists of a new events center arena and practice facility addition to Broken Arrow High School’s pre-existing Varsity Training Center. The facility will sit on a 17.4-acre site, and sits East of Broken Arrow High School’s maincampus and South of the Tiger Memorial Stadium. The program will accommodates event spaces, sports practice rooms, and a competition arena that allows approximately 3,000 fans to cheer on the BA sports teams.

This suite style conference room’s entrance is centered with the auditorium and contains a balcony that is centered on the football ! eld. The district utilizes this space on a daily basis so a setup of for least 100 people was important. A kitchen area that can support catering is also included.

Construction Documents

I jumped on this project while interning for WRA Architects Inc. in the last semester of my undergraduate degree. I made my contributions primarily toward the construction documents phase of the project. I helped compose the bulk of the finish floor plans, interior elevations, and finish details while concurrently resolving unfleshed-out design issues here and there.

Proposed here is a new 50,000sf maximum size Pre-K and Afterschool facility. It will serve up to 480 students maximum from ages 3-12. During the summer break from school, this facility will host a summer program as well. This unique program demands specific attention be paid to flexibility and adaptability of the various uses.

scope

To serve the Pre-K student population, there are 8 classrooms in one wing. Each classroom will share a pair of student restrooms. This wing house all necessary programmatic function of the Pre-K program and is easily secured from the remainder of the facility. Administrators directly associated with the Pre-K program are situated right outside of the primary interior entrances to the wing for added convenience and security. This wing also has a dedicated and direct access point to the outdoor play area that is specifically designed to suit the younger students.

finishes

The finish selection will enhance the durability of the Pre-K facility. The main corridors will have vinyl tile and a ceramic tile wainscot that will carry throughout. The ceiling design for the corridor will be a combination of ACT (acoustic ceiling tile), gypsum board, and a wood look ceiling. The admin and the classroom wings will have carpeted floors, durable rubber base, paint and have primarily ACT ceilings. Color blocking will be achieved through our finish selection.

design motif

The design will be inspired by organic themes that we see in nature. A motif of seasons and natural elements such as the sun, mountains, trees will influence the programed communities and shared spaces. The design will also incorporate the use of a pentagon motif throughout the school. The overall design motif will heighten a sense of community.

colors

The interiors will be designed to foster an environment where students of all ages can thrive. The design will highlight the multifunctional programing with color blocking of different zones. The color palate is inspired from colors that are seen in nature. This will add to the wayfinding that will be integral in the design.

study models

With my education, I have completed many different types of projects that have required making scale study models. I enjoy doing this work extensively and always feel that sense of accomplishment after finishing small projects like these. These skills will aid me during client interactions when trying to communicate ideas effectively.
