Notefrom President

8th ELECTED WEST CONFERENCE RAYAC PRESIDENT

Blessed greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ Amen

A lot has happened since the first issue of our West Chronicles.

We sat for our annual convention at AK Senatle AME church in Christiana where we came back with a new slogan for meal times “ one wors one pap”. Districts and the Conference Executive Reports were tabled and we closed the first lap of our tenure.

We went back to the joint sitting of the B.O.C.E for the plenary at Baber Ming AME Church in Itsoseng in October 2023 The decision to take us back to joint conventions was taken there So, we will meet again in August as auxiliaries/ministries that fall under the B O C E for our Convention this year

The West Annual Convention RAYAC has for many years in succession, been the Episcopal’s no 1 – hence we were called “di Bosso”. However, at the last 19ED Summit held at Willem Pretorius Resort in the Orangia Annual Conference, we lost the no. 1 spot to the MM Mokone Annual Conference and found ourselves being the “All Black’s” of the 19ED (emanating from the Rugby World Cup Series). It seems a daunting challenge to rise up to the top again. Since after Covid times, it has been a challenge to get members back to churches. Across all auxiliaries, notable decline in membership affects usual business of the day. Which puts pressure on the leadership Budgets need to be paid from Local up to Episcopal, without active membership that becomes a challenge How do we bring members back to church and back to active membership in their respective auxiliaries? It’s a question that still begs an answer even today

As the sitting president, I now understand why some presidents would want to go back for a second or even third term of office. One term doesn’t seem enough to get everything in order. The District Presidents and their Executive boards play an important role in keeping the ministry active at lower levels. Because there is no conference without districts, and there is no district without local and there is no local without members. I am really appreciative of the work that happens at district down to local levels, they keep the West Annual Conference RAYAC shining at all times.

One RAYAC! One Church! One God!

It's with great excitement that I welcome you to this edition of our West RAYAC CHRONICLES newsletter 2nd Issue As you might know, I am all about Public Relations and thisshort piece isafollow up of what wasfeatured in Issue1

In the vibrant tapestry of community engagement and outreach, thereexistsathreadthatbindsusall thepower of social connection. As we navigate the ever-evolving landscape of public relations within religious institutions. At the heart of this exploration lies the importance of innovation. In a world where change is constant and technology is ever-evolving, innovation serves as our compass, guiding us toward new horizons and opportunities for growth. It's through innovation that we embrace the possibilities afforded by digital communication tools, harnessing their power to deepen connections, inspire engagement, and spread hope to all generations

Through the lens of public relations, we uncover the transformative impact of social media platforms such as Facebook,X,Instagram, andTikTok.Weexplorehowthese platforms serve as catalysts for change, enabling churches to showcase their positive contributions, engage with diverse demographics, and create inclusive digital spaces whereallarewelcome.

As we embark on this journey together, let us remain steadfast in our commitment to embody the principles of trust, engagement, and effective communication. Let us embrace innovation with open hearts and open minds, recognizing the profound impact it can have on the perception and operation of churches in today's interconnectedworld.

Moreover, the concept of international digital discipleship presents an intriguing opportunity. Churches can show targeted ads to individuals in specific countries or regions seeking Christian information, inviting them to engage with the church's mission online Yet, as we embrace this global outreach, are we equipped to bridge cultural divides and foster genuine connections across borders?

And what about online business-funded ministries? The prospect of churches funding their operating costs through online ventures such as clothing/merchandise stores opens up new avenues for sustainability and mission-driven outreach efforts. But are we prepared to balance the demands of commerce with the sacred mission of the church?

In closing, I invite you to immerse yourself in the features and insights shared within these pages. May they inspire you, challenge you, and ignite within you a renewed sense of purpose as we continue to navigate the complexities of community engagement and outreach in the digital age

Exploring Key Conversations: RAYAC Men Monday Virtual Sessions

In an era where conversations about emotional intelligence and gender roles are gaining significant traction, platforms that facilitate open dialogues and discussions play a crucial role One such platform making strides in this domain is the RAYAC Men Monday Virtual Sessions Over the past few months, these sessions have delved into pertinent topics such as Emotional Intelligence and Gender Roles in Modern Society, sparking insightful conversations and fostering personal growth among participants.

Between January and March, participants of RAYAC Men Monday Virtual Sessions explored two central themes: Emotional Intelligence and Gender Roles in Modern Society These topics were chosen to address evolving dynamics of masculinity, relationships, and societal norms, offering attendees a platform to share experiences and perspectives.

Emotional Intelligence, the cornerstone of the first set of discussions, is a concept that encompasses the ability to recognize, understand, and manage one ' s emotions, as well as the emotions of others.

Led by Licentiate Bafana Malindi, participants explored various aspects of Emotional Intelligence, including strategies for managing emotions effectively and building healthier relationships In a world where emotional literacy is often undervalued, these sessions provided a safe space for men to explore their feelings and vulnerabilities, challenging traditional stereotypes associated with masculinity Through open dialogue and practical exercises, participants gained valuable insights into their own emotional landscapes, learning how to express themselves authentically while fostering empathy and understanding in their interactions with others.

Following the exploration of Emotional Intelligence, the RAYAC Men Monday Virtual Sessions delved into Gender Roles in Modern Society, sparking nuanced discussions on societal expectations, cultural norms, and the evolving definition of masculinity

Led by Rev LB Thotobolo, participants engaged in candid conversations about how gender roles impact personal identity, relationships, and societal structures. These discussions encouraged attendees to embrace authenticity and challenge restrictive stereotypes.

Through introspection and dialogue, participants gained a deeper understanding of how gender roles shape perceptions and behaviors in personal and professional spheres Additionally, the sessions provided a platform to examine intersections of gender with race, sexuality, and socioeconomic status, emphasizing inclusivity and intersectionality in discussions about gender equality.

Ultimately, the RAYAC Men Monday Virtual Sessions served as a beacon of empowerment, offering a space for men to explore emotions, challenge norms, and foster connections. By addressing topics like Emotional Intelligence and Gender Roles, these sessions enrich participants' lives and contribute to broader dialogues on masculinity, diversity, and social change.

EmbracingVision:Reflectionsonthe19thEpiscopal LeadershipStrategicSession2024

Gathering amidst the serene ambiance of Magalies River Lodge, the 19th Episcopal Leadership Strategic Session (LSS) in 2024 was not just an event but a testament to resilience and adaptability. As hosts, we welcomed attendees with open arms, embracing the moment and fostering a spirit of unity despite the challenges Amidst the discussions and deliberations, one of the most profound highlights emerged – the exploration of the seven pillars of RAYAC, igniting a vision for a thriving church community

At the heart of our discussions lay a profound understanding of what it takes to cultivate a vibrant and purposeful church community. These pillars serve as guiding beacons, illuminating the path towards a future where intentionality, innovation, and spiritual depth converge harmoniously.

1. Intentional: Every action rooted in purpose, guided by clearly defined goals and strategic planning, fosters intentionality. Building intentional communities requires a concerted effort to nurture relationships and create spaces where individuals can thrive and grow in their faith journey

2 Visionary: A thriving church community requires leaders who dare to dream, who envision a future that transcends the present realities By casting a long-term vision and encouraging innovative ideas, visionary leaders inspire others to embrace change and adapt to evolving contexts.

3. Innovative: In a rapidly changing world, embracing innovation is paramount. From leveraging technology to adapting to shifting demographics, embracing creativity and adaptability enables the church to remain relevant and responsive to the needs of its members, especially the younger generation.

4. Unity and Consistency: A unified identity and consistent communication are essential for fostering a sense of belonging and cohesion within the community. By aligning messaging and branding, the church can effectively convey its values and mission, resonating with both existing members and potential newcomers.

5 Accountable Leadership: Transparency, accountability, and a commitment to continuous improvement are hallmarks of effective leadership By holding leaders accountable and fostering a culture of openness and feedback, the church ensures that it remains responsive to the needs and aspirations of its members

6. Commitment to Social Impact: True to its calling, the church is called to be a beacon of hope and compassion in the world. By dedicating itself to community service, outreach, and charitable initiatives, the church embodies the values of compassion and solidarity, making a tangible difference in the lives of those in need.

7. Spiritual Guidance: At the core of it all lies a deep commitment to spiritual growth and renewal. Guided by the Holy Spirit and grounded in biblical principles, the church nurtures an environment where individuals can deepen their relationship with God, fostering a sense of spiritual fulfilment and purpose

In essence, these seven pillars form the bedrock upon which a thriving church community stands. They are not merely abstract ideals but practical principles that inform every decision and action, guiding the church towards its ultimate mission of spreading love, hope, and salvation.

As we reflect on the discussions and insights gleaned from the 19th Episcopal Leadership Strategic Session, let us be reminded of our collective responsibility to nurture and safeguard the vibrancy of our church communities Let us embrace these pillars with zeal and conviction, knowing that through our collective efforts, we can build a future where the light of God's love shines brightly for all to see

On February 3, 2024, we organized a captivating Spiritual Hike where members engaged in fervent prayers to seek divine intervention, opening doors for new blessings and facilitating healing where needed. This event served as a poignant reminder of our Christian journey and the significance of "yahoba Lekunutung le Morena" (walking with the Lord)

The Johannesburg District RAYAC has demonstrated proactive leadership both at the district and local levels by hosting various community initiatives These include the "Back to School" drive held at Robinson Chapel on January 14, 2024, aimed at promoting social action. Furthermore, we celebrated Valentine's Day with festivities at A.M. Senatle Chapel on February 18, 2024, and a Valentine's Dinner Ball hosted at Mt Zion AME Church on February 17, 2024

DISTRICT Potchefstroom

THE POTENT POTCHEFSTROOM DISTRICT

The Potent Potchefstroom District has a total number of 30 RAYAC members from 6 charges. The district aims at gaining new membership from the youth within the church by being visible themselves in their local charges and showing commitment towards being about their Father’s Business

A successful Team Building was held at Hanscombe Resort on the 9th December 2023, where members and their children engaged outside of a church setting but God being at the center of the outing For it is written that where two or three are gathered in His name, there He is with them.

On February 3rd, 2024, the District held a Seminar at Mount Ararat, during which Rev Thato Mere delivered a message titled "Tell God about it." Additionally, at Tigane, the Mighty KS Malinga, guided by the Spirit, generously provided school uniforms to two primary school learners. This act of kindness undoubtedly made a significant impact on those students' lives and reflects the spirit of community support within the district.

Congratulations to the new President of Potchefstroom District - Sis Mmabatho Morwagae!

To tackle challenges like member commitment and low attendance, seeking guidance from local pastors or the Presiding Elder is crucial. Holding meetings with active members and PE V.J. Malefetse allows for open discussion of concerns and the development of effective interventions

These may include pastoral support, community engagement initiatives like outreach programs and social events, improved communication channels, educational resources to promote participation, leadership development programs, and regular evaluation and feedback mechanisms.

By involving members in the solution-finding process, the district can overcome these challenges and strengthen the church community.

DISTRICT Lichtenburg

DISTRICT Mmabatho

THE MMABATHO DISTRICT - THE DISTRICT NEST TO HEAVEN

The Mmabatho District RAYAC stands as a vibrant and lively district, offering a homely and welcoming environment for all its members. It has been a roller-coaster ride filled with ups and downs, yet through it all, the spirit of unity and service has remained steadfast Our fundraising events have been a highlight, not only helping us raise necessary funds but also reuniting us in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. We have become well-known for our car washes and potjiekos sales, which serve as both community gatherings and successful fundraising activities A standout event was last year ' s "kuku fo mojako" cake sale held during the PE's joint Pentecostal service at Montshioa Chapel. It was a unique and memorable event that brought many smiles and much-needed funds

While we are pleased to welcome new members to our RAYAC family, we are also facing challenges in retaining our long-standing members. Recently, we have observed some members stalling in their participation, and a few with dual memberships are focusing more on other auxiliaries. Despite these challenges, we remain grateful for their continued association and contribution to our group.

We are particularly blessed with members who have found a permanent home in RAYAC, choosing to stay even after surpassing the typical graduation age. One such dedicated member, affectionately named "Mother Director," has recently been appointed as a YPD (Young People’s Division) director at her local circuit Her unwavering commitment and leadership have been invaluable, and we cherish her deeply.

Our dedication to service has reached new heights. Every circuit within the district has a RAYAC member actively teaching or involved in the Sunday School. This widespread engagement underscores our commitment to nurturing the next generation and making a positive impact within our community

As we move forward, we are inspired by the resilience and dedication of our members. The journey may have its challenges, but our collective spirit and determination ensure that Mmabatho District RAYAC will continue to thrive as a beacon of community and service.

We look forward to more memorable events, stronger bonds, and a continued focus on making a difference in the lives of those around us

The Mmabatho District RAYAC embodies the essence of community, service, and unity. Despite the roller-coaster ride of the past term, our commitment to each other and our mission remains unshaken We celebrate our achievements, learn from our challenges, and eagerly anticipate the future with hope and determination. Together, we are not just a group but a family, dedicated to making our district a better place for all
