Carey Peña CO-HOST

Carey Peña is an Emmy award – winning journalist, television personality, podcast host, and the Founder & CEO of Inspired Media 360, a media company that focuses on content creation, video production, and podcasting.

Formerly a main anchor at 3TV, Carey has spent time in front of the camera covering Hollywood red carpets, movie premieres, and fashion events such as American Idol and Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. She’s worked on various TV shows as a host and contributor, including the nationally syndicated CBS show, “The Talk.”

In addition, she continues to host and moderate political shows, various town halls, and television specials.

A well-known emcee and public speaker, Carey is a true philanthropist.

She lends her time to many charitable causes focusing on work that inspires positive change in our communities and across the country. She especially likes to focus on causes that promote acceptance and equality.

Throughout the pandemic, Carey and her team helped dozens of nonprofit organizations create virtual and hybrid fundraising events and shows, allowing them to continue raising donations and successfully tell their stories to virtual audiences.

Brandon Lee CO-HOST

Brandon Lee is a 5-time Emmy Award winning journalist for CBS5 & 3TV. He’s won multiple awards for his reporting on the opioid crisis.

The irony is that Brandon is also a recovered drug addict. Brandon’s trauma, however, started as a child when he was sexually abused by his piano teacher and youth soccer coach. The tragedy is that Brandon held it inside because of shame and fear.

At age 15, Brandon was abusing cocaine and drinking to blackouts all while attending Catholic school. The drug abuse got worse as Brandon got older. Brandon eventually created a double life. One as a professional news anchor. The other as a strung-out druggie in the slums of Los Angeles.

While Brandon is responsible for anchoring the evening news here in the Valley, he is also a professional artist. Brandon owns an art gallery and art therapy school, “Art Of Our Soul”. Brandon teaches art to recovering addicts in residential treatment, survivors of domestic violence & sex assault victims. Brandon uses art therapy to help him heal from trauma.

Now, he blends his passion for art and his purpose for helping others to help people who are their lowest.

Brandon’s mission is to give other addicts hope that they can build a new life they never thought possible.

John Giles was elected Mayor of Mesa, Arizona in 2014 and began his second full term in January 2021.

Building on the foundation of his first term, his key areas of focus include 5Es: Emergency Response, Equality & Compassion, Education and Economic Growth.

Mayor Giles oversees a growing economy that’s added thousands of jobs, over $3.65 billion in new capital investment and employers like Google, Apple, and Amazon. He brings renewed focus to Mesa’s downtown resulting in a new Arizona State University facility with cutting edge programs and budding creative economy. Money.com, a subsidiary of Time Magazine, named Mesa the best big city in the Southwest.

Education and Mesa’s workforce are top priorities for Mayor Giles. He spearheads the Mesa College Promise that provides qualified graduates with a free community college education. The Promise, Mesa Counts on College and the new Mesa Education & Workforce Development Roundtable are building Mesa’s future workforce. He also chairs the Arizona Mayor’s Education Roundtable.

Mayor Giles is Chair of the Immigration Task Force for the U.S. Conference of Mayors Board of Trustees and is a member of the Mayor’s Challenge to End Veterans Homelessness.

Mayor Giles earned degrees from Brigham Young University in Political Science and Arizona State University’s Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law where he is an Adjunct Professor. He practiced law in Mesa for nearly 30 years before working full-time as Mayor. Mayor Giles has completed two full Ironman competitions, 20 marathons and four Boston Marathons.

Married for more than 35 years, he and wife Dawn have five children and eight grandchildren.

2021 Honoree Bios Pam Giannonatti Kroger Corporate Affairs Manager - Fry’s Division Pam Giannonatti has been an associate at Fry’s Food Stores for more than 38 years.

During her tenure, she has held several positions – from bagging customers’ groceries and training future leaders to helping Fry’s make the communities it serves a better place to live and work in.

As the Kroger Corporate Affairs Manager for the Fry’s division, she builds strong relationships with our Arizona community, working hand-in-hand with non-profit organizations and other partners to make a difference. Pam is a passionate volunteer, leading many of Fry’s volunteer efforts In 2020, Pam was recognized as 2020 Phoenix Mercury Believe in Woman Honoree and Big Brothers Big Sisters Board Member Appreciation Award. She received the Amazing Rewards, AMAZING WOMEN recognition from National Bank of Arizona and Phoenix Suns in 2016, and was recognized as a 2016-2017 Community Ambassador of the Year by the Junior League of Phoenix. She also received a Certificate of Appreciation from the USO Arizona and the “Above and Beyond” award from the Fry’s Food Store’s President – one of the highest honors the company bestows.

While this is all very important to her, her true pride and joy and most important role in life is caring for and being with her family. She and her husband Mark have been married nearly 38 years and are blessed with four lovely children and three beautiful grandchildren.

2021 Honoree Bios The Honorable Daniel Hernandez Daniel is a state representative, former school board president, and lifelong Arizonan running for Congress to help Southern Arizona families.

Daniel was born and raised in Tucson, his mother an immigrant from Mexico who came to the U.S. where she met Daniel’s father. A first-generation college student, Daniel attended the University of Arizona when he interned for thenCongresswoman Gabby Giffords and was there on the day of the tragic attack on her life which resulted in 6 deaths and 13 people injured.

Daniel was the first to administer first aid to the Congresswoman before the EMTs arrived and was named a national hero by President Obama.

Inspired by Congresswoman Giffords’s commitment to public service, Daniel went on to advocate for access to reproductive health care and education as program manager for Raíz, Planned Parenthood’s Latino outreach program. He was also elected to his local school board, where he became the youngest school board president in the district’s history.

Since 2017, Daniel has served in the Arizona State House, was one of the youngest elected and is a co-founder of the House LGBTQ caucus. In the House, he has worked with both Republicans and Democrats to pass bills protecting survivors of sexual assault and secure $20 million for school resource officers, counselors, and social workers. He also led the fight against legislation that would discriminate against LGBTQ Arizonans.

He also received recognition as the 2019 Women’s Healthcare Champion from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

2021 Honoree Bios Leah Huss, Co-owner & Chip Mulala, Minister of Craft Beer, Huss Brewing Company Leah Huss, alongside her husband and Brewmaster, Jeff, own and operate the state’s third largest brewery, proud home to the locally-crafted, national-awardwinning Huss Family of Beers.

Leah’s love for food and cooking originally drew her to the Southwest to attend the Scottsdale Culinary Institute, graduating with a culinary arts degree. Landing a job with Papago Brewing in Scottsdale, Leah discovered a passion for the business side of the beer industry, eventually co-owning and operating Papago for 14 years. Finally in 2013, Leah and Jeff took over a long-closed brewing facility in south Tempe to launch Huss Brewing Co. In 2016 Leah Huss came full circle when her company acquired the Papago Brewing Company in Scottsdale, creating the Huss Family of Beers and transforming Huss into the 3rd largest brewer in the state. In 2017, Huss Brewing Co. opened its second brick-and-mortar location with the Huss Uptown Plaza Taproom in Phoenix. In Fall 2021 Huss will open a state of the art BrewPub and TOGO Counter in the heart of Downtown Phoenix at the Phoenix Convention Center. Huss Brewing Co. has also won national craft beer awards, including at the 2018 and 2020 US Open Beer Championships, and the 2015 and 2018 Great American Beer Fest.

In her spare time, Leah is a proud mother to daughter, Lola, who has been part of the Huss Brewing legacy since the beginning.

2021 Honoree Bios Chip Mulala Director of Operations for Huss Brewing Company Chip Mulala serves as the Director of Operations for Huss Brewing Company in Arizona. In the last 6 years Chip has helped establish Huss as one of the fastest growing breweries in the Southwest and current third largest brewery in Arizona.

He shares over 13 years of craft beer experience in Arizona, managing distribution throughout the southwestern US. Chip has sat on the board of directors for the Arizona Craft Brewers Guild twice - recently completing a 2-year term as President.

In 2008 Chip joined SanTan Brewing Company. After building the front of the house team, Chip helped create a sales division to take SanTan beers to retail. Working with local restaurants and bar owners and starting out as the first sales rep Chip eventually became the Director of Sales + Marketing helping build SanTan’s retail footprint from a handful of accounts into one of the largest craft breweries in the Southwest and #2 in Arizona!

In 2015 Chip joined the Huss Brewing Family and has helped catapult Huss’ growth through the sales and marketing of their award-winning beer portfolio and launching countless new brands and concepts under the Huss Family of Beers umbrella. In 2016, Chip joined Jeff and Leah Huss in expanding the Huss brick + mortar footprint with the opening of Huss Brewing Taproom + Kitchen at Uptown Plaza and in Fall 2021 the highly anticipated Huss Brewing Brewpub + TOGO in the heart of Downtown Phoenix at the Phoenix Convention Center.

2021 Honoree Bios Michael Soto Executive Director, Equality Arizona Michael currently serves as the Executive Director of Equality Arizona, leading a statewide team working to build the political power of LGBTQ+ Arizonans in social, civic, and economic life.

He worked for years as a volunteer board member and then as Executive Director to revive Equality Arizona as a non-profit organization and political force in Arizona. After 5 years, Equality Arizona is a fully staffed statewide non-profit, with a strong and diverse membership, diversified funding streams, and is highly sought after for electoral endorsements.

He is a proven leader who has worked for statewide, national, and international social change organizations. He has professional experience in the non-profit, for-profit, and government sectors. His professional expertise includes policy analysis, government relations, political and community organizing, strategic planning, non-profit governance, nonprofit business management, marketing and communications.

Michael attended Arizona State University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Women and Gender Studies and a Master of Science in Justice Studies. His academic work focuses on the purpose of public policy, pluralism, and representative democracy in American life and how advocacy and political organizing can transform systems of oppression through civic engagement.

He is actively engaged in the national movement for LGBTQ+, economic, racial, and social justice. He has given talks, presentations, and trainings to international, national, regional, and statewide groups. He has also worked as a consultant to train philanthropic organizations on the movement for social justice, LGBTQ+ equality, and on organizational practices that advance equity and justice.

2021 Honoree Bios Virginia Korte Former Scottsdale City Councilmember Virginia Korte received her BS and MS, in Biology, at Northern Arizona University.

Formerly a Chevrolet automobile dealer, Korte now is Principle of Korte Group, LLC. From 2007 to 2014, she served as President/CEO of Scottsdale Training and Rehabilitation Services. In 2002, Korte resigned as Chair of the Board for the Scottsdale Area Chamber of Commerce to serve as its President/ CEO. She was the Executive Director of the Center for Native and Urban Wildlife at Scottsdale Community College, has been an adjunct faculty member at Mesa Community College and most recently at Scottsdale Community College.

In 1992, Korte was elected to serve on the Board of Directors for the Central Arizona Water Conservation District that governs the Central Arizona Project.

Ms. Korte completed her second term as Council Member on Scottsdale City Council in 2020, having been elected in 2013 and reelected in 2016.

In 2019 Ms. Korte was honored by the city of Scottsdale as one of 12 Preserve Pioneers. Ms. Korte received the 2017 Sheila Kloefkorn Individual Equality Award sponsored by the Human Rights Campaign.

She received the Scottsdale Area Chamber of Commerce Legacy Award in 2010, was inducted into Scottsdale’s History Hall of Fame in 2006, received the 2003 Preservation Champion award; the 1998 Outstanding Leadership and Volunteer Award from the Scottsdale Chamber of Commerce; was selected as the 1995 recipient of the Frank W. Hodges Alumni Achievement Award and received the 1995 Distinguished Leadership Award by the National Association for Community Leadership.

2021 Honoree Bios Robert Heidt President & CEO, Glendale Chamber of Commerce Robert Heidt is the president and CEO of the Glendale Chamber of Commerce, the largest business organization in the West Valley. With more than 20 years of Chamber management, his Chamber career began at the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce as the Director of Membership and Community Relations, a position he held for more than seven years. Robert then relocated to Austin, Texas and assumed the role of COO and senior vice president of the Austin Chamber where he continued to reside for nearly five years. After leaving Austin, Robert moved to the northeast where he became the CEO of the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce just outside Boston, Massachusetts. His most recent transition occurred in October 2013 which brought him to the Glendale Chamber of Commerce where he assumed the role of president and CEO of the Glendale Chamber.

Robert, originally from Baltimore Maryland, served in the U.S. Air Force as a security police officer, holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and has worked in the casino industry with both Mirage Resorts and the Venetian heading up Casino & Event Marketing prior to his chamber career.

A graduate of Western Association of Chamber Executives (WACE) , Robert has served on the WACE Board of Directors, Chair-Elect of the FBI Board for Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE), is the CFO for Speak Up, Stand Up, Save a Life, and serves as chair of the West Valley Chambers Alliance and past-chair for Arizona Chamber Executives.
