LIVING IN BOGOTÁ Accommodation in Bogota is extremely cheap by western standards.

It is very easy to have a wonderful standard of living in Colombia.

Expatriate teachers usually live in “Cedritos”, the neighbourhood between Calle 140 to 155. This is conveniently located mid way between the school (Calle 170) and the Zona Rosa (Calle 82). It is just a short taxi ride from Usaquen. Cedritos has two large shopping malls both housing cinema complexes, a variety of supermarkets, plenty of fast food outlets and many local shops.

Utilities are generally cheap in Colombia, with the exception of water. Charges are based on the Colombian “strata” system and prices vary according to which strata you live in. Cedritos is, for the most part, Strata 4 and very affordable.

Based on a two-person household with moderate to high usage living in Strata 4, you can expect to pay per month: • Electricity: $30,000 (£10.50) • Gas: $30,000 (£10.50) • Water: $70,000 every two months. The English School, founded in 1961, is situated in Colombia’s capital city of Bogotá and is amongst the largest and most successful IB schools in the IBLA region. The school offers a bilingual education to a largely Colombian student body, offering the International Baccalaureate (PYP, MYP and DP Programmes).

The school draws heavily upon both British culture and the rich history and traditions of Colombia. Instruction in English and Spanish and the implementation of a specifically ‘international’ programme of study enables students to become productive and responsible citizens of the world.

Students and Faculty The English School is a coeducational, non-denominational day school with a student enrolment of 1750 from Pre-kinder to Grade 11 and has 204 members of teaching staff.

Teachers: both local and international teachers need to be committed to becoming bilingual and use technology as a tool to enhance the teaching and learning processes.

Campus The English School campus is located on a large site in Northern Bogotá. The Pre-School, Primary and Secondary sections are housed in separate buildings on the main campus. The school has three computer and seven science laboratories, two design technology laboratories, a cafeteria, large playgrounds, a sports field, an athletic track, a state-of-the-art gymnasium and sports centre, a large playing field, a drama and arts complex, an auditorium suitable for small-scale productions and three bilingual libraries.

CURRICULUM We offer the programmes of the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO): Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), and Diploma Programme (DP).

• TES is the largest IBO school in the IBLA Region (in terms of number of candidates who sit exams for the diploma).

• This is our 36th year of IBO accreditation for the Diploma programme, which makes us one of the oldest IBO schools in Latin America.

• In 2004, we were named as one of five schools worldwide to implement Phase IV of the Film Pilot Programme.
