Ă NGEL ESPARCIA GARRIDO Personal Statement I believe that be an architect is a vocation and not just a job. I have always had a considerable interest in architecture. During my time at university I have gathered many key skills, a clear understanding of architecture and also I have absorbed a great deal of knowledges. I believe it is a very interesting career to pursue and could be very rewarding for a hardworking, creative and intellectual person such as myself.

I have learned that any excellent project does not emerge from a single idea or person, rather it requires an extensive synergy and communication of a great team. I have realised that creating and managing a construction project is logical, organized, and defined. As a designer, I constantly find myself pondering ways to make people live better, both aesthetically and practically.

Purpose The aim of this document is to introduce me and some of my remarkable works to architectural firms and design studios. I would like to work, like a challenging to expand my horizons in an outstanding and international architectural enviroment and become part of the architectural design working with a great team. I would like to contribute with my knowledge and experience, at the same time I would like to learn, because I believe that the profession in which I have been formed I will never stop learning.

Competences Given my education, I am capable of giving effective solution to a wide number of problems. I have a great capacity for teamwork as well as autonomous when it is required, with the skills needed to motivate teams, and communicate with others. I am resilient and I adapt easily, being sociable and kind.

Summing up I suppose a plus in any team.

I have experience working within a deadline focused environment and fulfilling them. I am disciplined in my approach and I organise my workload, besides I work hard and I am not afraid to take initiative.

My commitment, ethical work, and self-motivation allow me to strive for the highest possible standards.

“Center of Italy

Reconstruction”

- Studio Tecnico Buzzi - Location: Rieti, Italy In the Central Apennines, during 2016/17 there were various seismic sequences that devastated a wide area, where caused an emergency. There were victims, 4 regions were affected and the damages were valued in 23.530 millions of Euros.

I was working in Studio Tecnico Buzzi like architect during 2017/18 where I made mainly reconstruction works. We had differents kinds of requests with different level of damages and in different places which works were subsidized by the Italian government.

The amount of the public money for the projects was from 45,000€ to 1,400,000€ depending of different variables as surfaces and damages of the buildings. It used to be the amount avaible for the works.

Safety works The first works consisted in draw the architectural plans of our assignments when it was possible.

Seconly, the most urgent was design and construct simple and fast structures, called “safety works�, in our buildings where there were inminent risks, removing them and allowing people outside of the work go throgh spaces without risk.

Then was the turn for an intense study of the buildings, their damages, the budget for the works and their needs.

Restructurings Finally, the main tasks of my work in the studio were to develop the projects of restructuring of the buildings that we had.

The designs were diverse, from new buildings when it was more economic than restructuring, to restaurations. There were works like the fixing of the damages, the sismic improvement of the buildings including the construction of elements as roofs or foundations that were not adapted for earthquakes using the last earthquake technologies, and elements that were requested by the clients as elevators.

“Showcase for Il Golosone Italiano�

- Il Golosone Italiano (2017).

- Location: Rieti,Italy In August, the citizens of the City that is the Center of Italy celebrate an international fair about chili peppers. All the city turns about it those days, and all the stores decorates their showcases with the topic of the fair.

Il Golosone Italiano Rieti Store situated in the center of the city requested to me design its showcase.

In the design I used the colors of the topic, red and green on a white background where I stood out the products. About the distribution it was very simple, a pyramid composition that hugged the visitors encouraging them to enter inside.

“Concrete Sculture�

- Competition: Design of a Sculpture with concrete, Cemex (2015).

-Team with: Daniel Infante, Jasmina Medanovic and Kasia Rowinska.

Concrete is one of the most versatile and advanced building materials today. The aim of this competition was to investigate the constructive concretion with raw concrete projects and the experimentation with this material and its condition in the projectual process of this essential material for the edification.

We researched the possibilities of formwork, the textures and the shadows over the material. It was design like a public building in a public area, using the mass implicit in the material and the texture of the constructive process, resulting the sculpture as a conceptual model.

The choice of way for the shuttering of the work, its shape for the correct concreting of the piece and select the materials that conform it, for not to interfere with the concrete has been some of the considerations in the design process of the piece.

Cultural Center in “Benimaclet�

- Final Project, ETSAV (2015) - Location: Benimaclet, Valencia - 5700 m2 Benimaclet is a neighborhood of Valencia with a long agricultural tradicion. A town was the origin of it and it is posible to read it on his actual structure.The main idea of the project is transfer the elements of the Mediterranean culture, that are present in the surroundings, to our building .

Our Cultural Center has been structured by an exterior circulation around the center square, feature of Meditarranean architecture and germ of the project and the town.

With a U shape which is open to Benimaclet, we situate the entrance on the highest stress point of the shape, where we have search to surprise the user through the space.

Coworking in “Cabanyal�

- PR IV, ETSAV (2014) - Location: Cabanyal, Valencia - 2480 m2 We could define Cabanyal like the ancient fishermen´s neighborhood of Valencia next to the sea with a long tradicion and a characteristic structure where it is possible to read its tradition.

The main idea of the project is to re-use an old factory to turn it in a Coworking, a new tipology, and revitalize the degraded neighborhood. We decide to recover the old main axis of the neighborhood like a pedestrian path and preserves the exterior of the factory with some little changes creating in the interior some mass elements of concrete where we develop the program, acording with the old Valencian buildings. This is, with paths between the mass elements. In the midle of our building a garden generates a transition and a confortable space for our Coworking.

Comercial Center in “Ensanche”

- PR II, ETSAV (2011) - Location: Ensanche, Valencia - Team with: Aaron Callejas,Caroline Giora, Ester Vallés.

- 12.000 m2 Ensanche is the name of the district built around 1850 in Valencia. It is characterized by its chamfering rectangular squares. The topic of the proyect is what to do with the space that remain inside of the squares, given that nowadays they are impaired and with the lack of design in a priviliged place in the city.

The idea is to design a Comercial-Cultural center in the interior of the block using two of the abandoned buildings as entrance. Our building is under a cover which is used like a public space that qualifies the inner space.

Urban Intervention in “Pobla de Vallbona�

- URB I, ETSAV (2010) - Location: Pobla de Vallbona - Team with: Alberto Gisbert, Carolina Juan - 30.000 m2 Pobla de Vallbona is a town near of Valencia with a huge potencial given its proximity to the metropolis. The project consists in the design and urbanization of an area that is a hinge between different typologies, solving the problems that we could find out in the surrounding area. We think that it is necessary to include some equipment that the town needs like a school or commercial buildings. In the residential area we combine towers, with townhomes and blocks, generating diversity and giving harmony to the town.

Photography

Given that photography is one of my hobbies and it keeps a close relation with architecture I would like to show some of my works.

My trips, the light and some architectual topics are the inspirations of my photos.That is why they are varied in themes , technical and objectives.

During the years I have developed some photo series like “ The intimate city ” where I try to find those most neglected corners of the city showing their beauty, “Photomosaics” or “Panoramic landscapes”.
