Welcome Messages President’s Message Thank you for your interest in the businesses of New Palestine and our Area Chamber of Commerce. I have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the Chamber and its Board of Directors for the last several years. As a longtime resident of New Palestine (since 1984), I love to see our community thrive and succeed. We’ve seen that success consistently in our fabulous schools and all of their extra-curricular activities. But I’ve also been privileged to see our businesses grow and blossom. It’s a great thing to support one another and help move commerce forward in New Palestine. There are so many wonderful people here and it’s an honor to serve the New Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce to help promote those businesses and organizations. In 2020, we look forward to all the Chamber offerings: our Monthly Luncheons, Networking Events, the Christmas Walk, and the Christmas Dinner. These events allow opportunities to build community and learn more about what the town and its businesses have to offer. I can’t express enough how nice it is to live in such a great community! It’s something many could easily take for granted. I hope we don’t do that. Let’s continue to support one another whenever possible. Shop local and keep our community strong. Our town and its offering of businesses will inevitably expand. I’m hopeful we can set a tone of collaboration and support. Thank you for allowing me to represent this Chamber.

Welcome Messages Coordinator’s Corner Welcome to the New Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce! I’m now in my fourth year as the Office Coordinator for the Chamber, meeting wonderful people and enjoying the events in the community. The New Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce is organized to promote, encourage and advocate growth and innovation in businesses to support the local community. Chamber meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month, generally at an 11:30 AM luncheon at the Lions Club. Please become acquainted with the activities of the Chamber on our website www.newpalestinechamber.org and on our Facebook page. The volunteerism that exists in this community is wonderful. There are so many people and organizations that work to promote the New Palestine area. Chamber membership adds value to your business. We always welcome new members, and information about membership can be found in this Directory, as well as on our website. Chamber Meetings The New Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce meets on the second Tuesday of the month at the New Palestine Lions Club, 5242 W. US 52. Our June meeting is held at the Sugar Creek Township Park located at 4161 South 700 West, New Palestine. Members get one meal at each meeting as a benefit of their membership. Guests are welcome and encouraged to attend for a minimal cost of just $10 per person. Please see below for the dates and times of our meetings:

Citizen of the Year Gary Halliburton The New Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce is honored to present the 2019 Citizen of the Year Award to Gary Halliburton. Gary was nominated for his unrelenting support of the New Palestine community and all of Hancock County. Gary has served as president of the Chamber of Commerce board four times, a chamber ambassador, was a graduate of the 20132014 Leadership Hancock County class and is currently on the board of the directors of the Southern Hancock Education Foundation. Gary has also been the owner of Progressive Hair for 39 years. Gary has been a tremendous steward to the community and is known for his kindness, hard work and ability to get things done. We would like to extend our most sincere congratulations to 2019 Citizen of the Year, Gary Halliburton!

In 1881 and 1882 two taverns were blown up over liquor disputes (perpetrators unknown).

The town received its first fire truck in 1896.

The original town hall and fire station exploded from a gas line on 10/01/1906; three men were killed.

A new Town Hall was built on the same site soon after the fire and operated there until 10/12/2005, over 100 years in the same place.

The Town bought the bank at Main Street and Bittner Road in 2005 for the Town Hall’s new location.

Around town Veterans Memorial The Southern Hancock County Veterans Memorial is located in Sugar Creek Township Park, 4136 S 700 W, New Palestine. The Memorial began as a concept by members of New Palestine American Legion Post 182 in 2002. After years of searching for suitable and available ground, the Sugar Creek Parks Board agreed to let the Legionnaires build near the entrance to the park in New Palestine. A long-awaited ground-breaking ceremony was held in the summer of 2015. Construction began soon after with Post members from the building trades leading the project. Supplies were ordered, materials were donated, funds were raised, commemorative brick orders were processed, and volunteers from the Legion “family� contributed a few thousand hours of on-site construction labor and landscaping. Funding for the construction of this feature at the public park was 100% through the New Palestine Legion Post and many outside donors. Profits raised from the sale of commemorative bricks are dedicated to the Memorial’s maintenance and expenses. The memorial includes six memorial benches and granite tablets representing the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard and Merchant Marines.

A public dedication of the Southern Hancock County Veterans Memorial was held on Saturday, May 12, 2018. The world premier of an Eric Whitacre arrangement of the National Anthem was commissioned and performed by the New Palestine High School Marching Dragons. There were musical tributes to all branches of the military and the presentation of the colors by the Greenfield Veterans Honor Guard. A bubble-top M.A.S.H. style helicopter was on display and a Korean-era Huey helicopter flew in, landing during the ceremony, and remained for display and
