All About Tourism to Donate 50p of each ticket to Macmillan Cancer Support All About Tourism, who are the event organisers of The Great Food and Drink Festivals which are set to take place all over the East Midlands, are using their shows to help raise crucial funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. The company have decided to give 50p of each ticket sale to Macmillan Cancer Support, in a bid to raise in excess of £20,000. The Great Food and Drink Festivals have been known to attract crowds of over 10,000 people per show and now with more shows this year than ever before, that could mean a lot of money being raised. Andy Whyles, Event Organiser has stated “The Great Food and Drink Festivals are set to take place all over the East Midlands and with the events getting bigger and reaching a wider audience, it felt like the perfect time to help out such a fantastic charity that does so much for other people in return” Rachel Herrick Area Fundraising Manager in the East Mids says “We are absolutely delighted that the company have decided to support Macmillan in this way. Today there are 2.5 million people living with cancer in the UK. By 2030 it will be 4 million and in five years nearly half of the UK

population will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. We want to make sure everyone gets the support they need. That’s why Macmillan is leading the way in transforming cancer care by piloting new services and developing existing ones. But in order to do this we need the support of companies like All About Tourism to help raise the vital funds to support our work.” With the minimum expectation of 10,000 attendees at each of these four events, that means a £20,000 target being raised for Macmillan Cancer Support is definitely an achievable feat. Between £15,000 and £20,000 could pay for a fullykitted Macmillan Information Space, including build costs, IT equipment, furniture and décor. The Space is a partitioned and furnished area within a larger area where information and support can be given to people affected by cancer. £13,963 could pay for a Macmillan social worker or family support worker for six months. They work with community and social services agencies to help people manage the social and practical problems of living with cancer.

When you have cancer, you don’t just worry about what will happen to your body, you worry about what will happen to your life. At Macmillan, we know how a cancer diagnosis can affect everything and we’re here to support you through. From help with money worries and advice about work, to someone who’ll listen if you just want to talk, we’ll be there. We are millions of supporters, professionals, volunteers, campaigners and people affected by cancer. Together we make sure there’s always someone here for you, to give you the support, energy and inspiration you need to help you feel like yourself again. The money raised can go a long way. Ensuring there is someone there, giving support, energy and inspiration to help people affected by cancer feel like themselves again.

I LOVE OSTRICH The healthiest meat in the world

Great Food & Drink Magazine

Edition 2 September 2016

The Company I Love Ostrich is heading into its 6th season and in that time it has built up a very healthy and loyal customer base. We spend our summer months showcasing at all the major music events throughout the UK and Ireland. I Love Ostrich was voted best food at the 2010 Electric Picnic, Ireland’s biggest festival, receiving a 5 Star rating by the Irish Times. I Love Ostrich is extremely proud to announce that they were nominated for the “Best Concessions” at the 2012 UK Festival Awards. During the winter months we spend our time spreading festive cheers amongst Christmas shoppers at some of the UK’s largest Christmas markets, including the South Bank, London, Birmingham’s German Market, Canterbury and Liverpool to name but a few... Harvest Festival 2011 hosted by Alex James of Blur, I Love Ostrich served some of their famous burgers to some famous customers including the PM David Cameron and Top Gear’s Jeremy Clarkson, both of whom commented on how tasty the food was, with the Prime Minister claiming “it’s the best burger I have had in years”. We at I Love Ostrich are very proud of our product and wish to share our passion with the good people of Great Britain, whether it be Ostrich Burgers, Ostrich Meatballs, Ostrich Sausage, steaks, mince, the list goes on, we can also supply great recipes.

The Menu Gourmet Ostrich Burger served with a choice of:Colston Basset Stilton Mayonnaise with wild Rocket Sweet Chilli and Garlic Mayonnaise with wild Rocket Our Famous Jack Daniel’s Onions Crumbled farmhouse Cheddar and wild Spring Onion Honey chilli streaky Bacon and leaves Beef Tomato, Mozzarella and cracked black Pepper Ostrich Meatballs served with:Rich Tomato and Chilli Sauce containing

The Product Ostrich meat is regarded as the healthiest meat in the world, due to its extremely low fat content and very high levels of protein and Iron. Ostrich meat is a “red meat” very similar in texture and taste to beef. However, it far lower in fat grams per serving than Chicken, Turkey and much lower in cholesterol than beef. Most of all the meat from Ostrich comes from the Leg, Back or Thigh. Even though the Ostrich meat tastes similar to beef, the meat does not contain the same marbling which is found in beef. The fat collects on the outside of the muscle, so is easily removed during processing. Therefore, cuts of Ostrich meat are extremely lean and very low in fat content.

Chopped Garlic, Piquant’e Peppers and seasoned Spanish Onion Warmed French bread and leaves. Pan Fried Buffalo Burgers served :A Brioche Bun with Buffalo Mozzarella and Sliced Buffalo Tomato with Wild Rocket.

The Ostrich Ostriches are extremely versatile birds that can adapt and acclimatise to most environments. The Ostrich is farmed all over the world ranging from South Africa to Alaska. Ostrich is farmed for many reasons, its meat, eggs, leather and feathers which are highly desirable in the fashion world. The Ostrich farms are also a very popular visitor attraction. Many places in Africa use the egg shells for transporting water, it is claimed fully grown man can stand on an Ostrich egg without it breaking. The Ostrich sourced by ourselves are free range birds. Their diet mainly consists of plant matter, fruit and shrubs.

Summary We live in a world where we are becoming more health conscious, whether it be visiting the Gym or watching what we eat. Ostrich is the perfect healthy alternative to other meats. It also becomes a great talking point at any social gathering, dinner parties, Barbeques or Festivals.

The Great British Cookbook is now in the latter stages of releasing their second book, which raises money for Macmillan Cancer Support and Hospitality Action, and are delighted to announce that Le Cordon Bleu London, leading culinary arts, wine and management school are sponsoring the cookbook. Founded in Paris in 1895, Le Cordon Bleu has grown from a popular culinary magazine to one of the most prestigious global networks of culinary arts and hospitality management institutes. Real Ale Bars – Calke Abbey

Great Food & Drink Magazine

33

Edition 2 September 2016

Peakstone Rock Brewing Co Ltd Conceived during a Sunday afternoon pint, David Edwards brewed his first batch of Nemesis in May 2005. Ten years on and he now produces 9 different real ales regularly in our 4.5 barrel plant based in the Staffordshire Moorlands.

Tollgate Brewery has a strong connection with our neighbouring farms, towns and locals for whom we endeavour to produce ales that delight, whilst being conscientious of our surroundings.

The beers take their names from the surrounding area as the brewery looks out across Dimmingsdale Wood, home of the Chained Oak towards the village of Alton. Joined by his son James in 2013 the brewery supplies cask and bottle conditioned ale accross Staffordshire and Derbyshire.

raditionalist in style, with the guile to produce fresh T tastes and an ambition to share our beers with craft beer enthusiasts all over.

In July 2015 James opened Crossways Micropub. Selling Peakstones, a guest ale and Cider

Blue Monkey Bars Ltd BLUE MONKEY BREWERY was born on the border of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire in 2008. In 2010 we built a lovely shiny new brewery in Giltbrook, where we are capable of producing up to 20,000 pints of beer a week. This might sound like a lot, but compared with the big breweries we’re tiny. We like to think we’re big enough to guarantee quality and consistency, whilst still small enough to remain a tight knit team of beer enthusiasts who are fortunate enough to be able to brew the beers we love. Blue Monkey Brewery was first established by John Hickling & Trevor Vickers (Nephew & Uncle) in 2008 in Ilkeston, a town in the UK situated roughly half-way between Nottingham and Derby. For many years, Ilkeston’s biggest employer was Stanton Ironworks, which kept around 7,000 people in work. In 2013 John decided to leave and now Trevor owns the whole business. Stanton Ironworks finally ceased production in 2007, and today most of the site has been demolished, with what remains largely standing derelict. Both John’s Grandad and the furnaces that he knew are now sadly long-gone, but at least the people of Ilkeston can see BLUE MONKEYS again!

Tollgate Brewery Ltd Away from the hustle and bustle of UK cities you’ll find our 6-barrel craft brewery, nestled in the heart of the National Forest, on the National Trusts Calke Abbey Estate. A microbrewery with a big ambition. We use traditional brewing techniques and equipment to produce the finest ales for the modern pallet.

Flipside Brewery We are one of many craft brewers of British Ales to be found in Nottinghamshire and indeed, across the country. Our aim is to help continue the growth of Real Ale by providing a range of good quality, distinctive Real Ales. “In May 2014 we opened our brewery tap, the Old Volunteer in Carlton Square, Nottingham www.oldvolunteer.com. The pub has nine real ales on hand pull, five of which are Flipside brewery beers with four regularly changing guest beers. We are proud to be both CaskMarque and LocAle accredited and take great pride in the quality of our beers. You will always find Flipside’s multi-award winning Russian Rouble available on tap here. The Old Volunteer also offers a range of craft keg beers, bottled Belgian beers and over 40 whiskies from around the globe (but mainly Scotland J). Complementing a small but excellent food menu, great decor and an excellent, friendly and welcoming atmosphere, a visit to the Old Volunteer is not to be missed” Flipside Brewery is based in Colwick, Nottingham and supply many of our local pubs with our beers as well as the general public. After a lot of thought about a name for a brewery we came up with Flipside, a reference to the coin collecting hobby of our head brewer. This also provides the theme for the names of the beers which are loosely based around coins and currency, apart from when we can’t resist using the word “flipping”!

Springhead Brewery Springhead is a family-owned and run craft micro-brewery based in Laneham near Retford in North Nottinghamshire. This year, we are proud to celebrate 25 years of producing quality traditional craft beers, including our core range of beers, which are available throughout the year, and a wide selection of seasonal special beers, all of which are produced using only the finest all-natural ingredients, sourced from our local area where possible.

and an interesting conversation feature. Wherever we go with the Buses everyone loves them and we take great satisfaction in maintaining this fine Vintage vehicle. But also pulling it into the 21st Century, so this British icon can be enjoyed for years to come.

Our Routemaster proved to be a winner at events and soon one just wasn't enough, so we decided to buy another of its kind in time for the second season.

not undertaken a renovation like this before. However we took ideas from our other bus and knew ways to improve it after working on it for a full season. The conversion has been done to a very high standard and retains as much of its original features where possible. You just need to come aboard our buses and see for yourself! The Buses offer great facilities, on the lower deck we have a fully licensed mass serving bar, and on the upper deck there is an open top hospitality area where you can kick back in comfort and enjoy a drink or two and socialise the day away. We have a wide selection of alcoholic beverages to suit everyone's tipple of choice. From hand pulled real ales brewed from our own brewery. We are very proud of our beer and we like to share and enjoy this with our customers. Simon Morgan one of the owners is also the brewer, so if you have any questions on our ale then he is the person to ask! Reverand Eaton is the most popular choice, which is amber in colour and has a fruity hoppy aroma.

Also on the bar we have traditional boxed cider, draft lagers, Edition 2 Great Food & bittersDrink & ciders, wine, prosecco, September champagne, Pimms 2016and a Magazine range of soft drinks and spirits. The upper deck provides a first class facility and is a perfect VIP area to entertain your guests, which can seat 25 people comfortably, or can be used as a DJ performance area. We pride ourselves in offering a great customer service to all our clients and have many returning customers. As each season goes by we have incurred many more events, with each year busier than the next, and this summer is proving to be even more so! We have done some brilliant events such as the F1 & Moto GP at Silverstone, The Chatsworth Horse Trials, The CLA game Fayre and many more. This year with have some more exciting ones to look forward to such as the Truckfest events, Blenheim International Horse trials, VW festivals and the famous Hemingway Vintage Car Boots. We appreciate that every event is different, our operation is very flexible allowing us to completely tailor our services to suit your event. We are self sufficient and have all the equipment to take care of your needs. The Bus Bar Company is not just about Routemaster buses. Last May we purchased a one of its kind 'Speakeasy' Mobile Bar, even though it was completely different to the bars we currently have, we instantly fell in love with it and we are sure you will too! This charming vehicle is a 1920's style Fleur De Lys parcel van and has been skilfully converted into a fully functional bar. This is sure to add something different to any occasion and is ideal for smaller events such as Weddings, private parties etc. or it can be used as a more specialised bar, such as for your favourite cocktails. Come rain or shine the bar is extremely versatile and is perfect for inside or outside Wedding venues. The bar can be used alone or in conjunction with our extended bar facilities depending on the amount of guests or size of event.

Handmade drinks from the heart of the countryside Kitchens & Living Spaces HANDCRAFTED IN ENGLAND

Belvoir Fruit Farms nestles deep in the English countryside in the idyllic Vale of Belvoir, where they’ve been making fruit cordials and presses since 1984, pressing fresh fruit and infusing flowers to mix with spring water. Renowned for their elderflower drinks, they still use the same elderflower recipe developed by cofounder Mary Manners all those years ago. Originally, all the elderflowers were handpicked from bushes growing around Lord and Lady John Manners’ garden. The whole family helped to make the first batch of elderflower cordial, chopping the lemons and stirring the syrup. Lord John then popped the 88 cases of drinks into the back of his car and went round local farm shops, persuading the owners to buy a bottle here and there. Today, demand is so high that Belvoir calls on the local community to help with the harvest, picking flowers from their own 90 acres of orchards and from hedgerows in the surrounding countryside. To achieve the unique taste of Belvoir’s elderflower products, it’s essential to use nothing but fresh flowers. Peverel Manners, Lord John’s son, says: “The secret of a really good elderflower cordial is to use masses of flowers that have been picked in the sunshine when they’re warm and heavy with yellow pollen, then get them into the vat within three hours. This gives the drink its delicate floral taste.” Over the years, the company has expanded its beverage range to include a wide range of flavours and the brand now produces more than 40 products, many of which have won multiple awards. All will be available to sample and buy at this summer’s Great Food & Drink Festivals at Calke Abbey in September; it will be lovely to see you there…

Greene King come to Newstead Abbey

Great Food & Drink Magazine

43

Edition 2 September 2016

If you are looking for an alcoholic beverage at Newstead Abbey’s Great Food and Drink Festival, then you don’t need to look any further than Greene King. The country’s leading pub company and brewer will have their own bar area at Newstead Abbey, so sit back and enjoy what they have to offer! Here is more about Greene King: WHO THEY ARE AND WHAT THEY DO We are the country’s leading pub company and brewer, running over 3,000 pubs, restaurants and hotels in towns, villages and city-centre high streets across England, Wales and Scotland. It’s our rich heritage of more than 200 years that has taught us how to brew award-wining beer and operate pubs from our base in Bury St. Edmunds ever since the company was founded in 1799 by 19-year-old Benjamin Greene. As a company, we pride ourselves on consistently offering exceptional value, service and quality to all our customers. This ethos is central to everything we do in our business: the products that we offer, the ales that we brew, the affordable prices that we charge, the team members who serve our customers and the atmosphere of our pubs, restaurants and hotels.

OUR BUSINESSES We want to be considered by our customers, team members and shareholders as the best pub company in Britain. To help us get there, we split our business into three key sections: Pub Company, Pub Partners and Brewing & Brands.

PUB COMPANY Our Pub Company is made up of all the pubs, restaurants and hotels that we manage in England, Scotland and Wales. It includes much-loved brands like Hungry Horse, Chef & Brewer, Farmhouse Inns and Flaming Grill, as well as our Greene King Local pubs. We’re proud that our pubs are places where communities come together. We love seeing our customers relaxing while catching up with friends, watching sport, or even treating the family to a delicious Sunday roast.

We have a wide range of charming hotels and inns, with the unique combination of traditional and modern features. Our customers can enjoy seasonal menus, wines and traditional cask ales from the comfort of our in-house restaurant and bars.

PUB PARTNERS Our Pub Partners business has been helping people to run a pub for more than 200 years. We believe we’ve become one of the UK’s most successful and respected tenanted and leased pub companies because of our two key principles support and flexibility for all our licensees. We offer a range of short-term and long-term options, and we provide a wide range of specialist support services to help licensees run successful pubs.

BREWING & BRANDS We operate two breweries. Westgate Brewery is in our hometown of Bury St. Edmunds and Belhaven Brewery, in Dunbar, which was formed in 1719 and is Scotland’s oldest working brewery and the home of Belhaven Best. We’ve been the leading cask ale brewer in the UK for many years. We take pride in producing some of the country’s best-loved ales, including Greene King IPA, Old Speckled Hen and Abbot Ale as well as Ruddles, St Edmunds and Olde Trip. No matter the season, our great tasting beers cater for every taste.

44 Grab yourself a healthy

snack If you have a sweet tooth but are also concerned about your waistline then these raw almond & coconut bites are just what you need. Made solely from natural ingredients, they are free of refined sugar and taste insanely good. What's more is that they contain healthy fats which, research suggests, may assist with blood sugar control. Ingredients to make 14: 3 tablespoons of almond butter 5 Medjool dates 3/4 cup desiccated coconut 1 tablespoon of coconut oil, melted 2 drops of vanilla extract (optional)

Method: Blend the almond butter, vanilla extract and dates until the mixture resembles large crumbs. (You are looking for the dates to be chopped up as much as possible.) Move the date/almond mix into a bowl and combine with the desiccated coconut and coconut oil. Mix really well. Squash into balls and refrigerate for at least an hour before consuming.
