WORKING TOGETHER, LEARNING AND GROWING

WORKING TOGETHER

A great example of what we can accomplish when we work as a team out of our Stratford home this month

Andrews of Stratford achieved excellent results on their home inspection These inspections are important, as the results are publicly available Performing well takes consistent, year-round effort and teams should be proud of their accomplishments

Our HR team as well deserves a round of applause for their efforts rolling out our updated Group Benefits A special thank you to everyone who has already enrolled For those of you have yet to sign up, I encourage you to do so as soon as possible Enrollment is a mandatory condition of employment, and full-time team members are required to participate in the Group Benefits Health and dental can be waived with proof of outside coverage but keep in mind, Andrews Senior Care covers over 50% of the health and dental costs, as well as the Employee Assistance Program

HR is also sending various policies through ADP that need to be read and acknowledged before the due date The policies assigned to you can be found under the Resources tab in Company Policies Please understand that these policies are important for you to know and must be acknowledged in ADP to ensure that HR has a record of it It is the responsibility of each team member to familiarize themselves with existing policies and procedures

In instances where a specific policy may not be readily available or accessible, it is encouraged for the team members to proactively seek clarification from their supervisor or the HR department Lack of awareness of a policy does not absolve the team member from compliance; therefore, it is essential for team members to request information or guidance on any policies they are not familiar with Remember, staying informed and compliant with our policies not only supports your own success but also strengthens our entire team

BETTER, FASTER, STRONGER

As you ’ re well aware, at Andrews we believe in constantly reviewing and evolving the technology we use Starting soon, we will implement the PointClickCare system in all our homes This technology will simplify and improve resident care by giving our teams the ability to document and share insights and timelines with the click of a button In addition to PointClickCare, we are currently evaluating modern nurse call bell options that will help our team work more efficiently While these are mid- to long-term projects, we want to keep everyone in the loop as new information becomes available

TEAM FUN

It was great seeing everyone at our beach bonfire Thank you Nathan and Amanda for organizing, setting up the fire and arranging snacks and drinks It was a wonderful evening and we couldn’t have asked for better weather

This month we have a haunted tour of downtown Summerside booked Glad to see so many people already expressing interest Our social committee has grown a lot in the past year and I truly believe activities like these are important for team bonding Sometimes we only see work” versions of our team members and these activities are opportunities to relax and connect on a more personal level.

Happy Thanksgiving and happy (early) Halloween

Sincerely,

Mizan

Paranormal investigator Amanda answers our questions about ghost hunting

What's your full name?

What prompted you to start investigating the paranormal?

I have always been interested in the paranormal from as far back as I can remember

It was when I moved into my first haunted house that got me interested in investigating. My husband and I had bought our first home together in 2011 shortly after we were married Strange things began happening almost immediately Lights being turned on, dishes rattling, TV turning on and off There are many stories I could share but I will share just a few that really stick out in my mind. When we first moved in, we were in the process of repainting. My husband had gone outside and I hadn’t noticed at all as I was painting in a corner. When my husband came back into the house, he asked me who I was talking to I stared at him He informed that when he was outside, he heard what sounded like talking It was pretty creepy as we were the only two there

Another incident was a time I was folding laundry. My daughter was sitting on my bed when she suddenly hopped off the bed, ran down the hall and went into her room When she entered her room, I could hear her say, “oh hey!” I ran to her room terrified of who or what I was going to find I find my daughter, who was three at the time, looking out her window. She pointed to the water and told me Amy lives there. I asked who Amy was and where exactly does she live. My daughter then tells me Amy is her friend who visits and she lives in the water. With an awful feeling of pure terror, I tell my daughter Amy can no longer visit My daughter wanted to know why and I tell her because she makes the carpet all wet and we don’t want wet carpets. That was the last I heard her talk about Amy. I was curious and did my own research. It turned out a little girl had drowned in that river years before.

It was at this time I decided to call in a paranormal group to investigate my home The investigation took place and a few days later I received a phone call from the lead investigator that they have something to show me She told me they had captured audio evidence. In the audio, I heard the investigator ask, “what’s your name ” , and then a little voice say back, “I’m Scott.” I was floored. I then began tagging along on investigations, learning about the spirit world, and how to protect my self and those around me

How long have you been doing it for now?

I have been investigating for over 13 years now

Tell me about how Soul Patrol came to exist.

The Soul Patrol began when I felt I had gained enough experience and knowledge to branch out on my own with my own team.

What sort of preparation goes into an investigation?

When we prepare for an investigation, we meet with the property owner to go over any experiences that may be happening, where the hot spots may be and gather any information of the property

Once we have all the information we need, we set up a time for the actual investigation. When we head into an investigation, my team will gather for a smudge, to protect us of any negativity or harm After the investigation, we take what we had captured through audio, video and camera and comb through it all. When we go into an investigation, we are not going to find a ghost or spirit, we are going in to find the explanation as to why experiences may be happening even if the outcome necessarily isn’t due to a haunting.

What equipment, if any, is required for an investigation?

We take along a recorder for EVP evidence. EVP stands for electronic voice phenomenon. This allows us to hear beyond what the human ear can hear. EMF which is electro-magnetic field can gauge and detect charges in the air. Motion sensors which can pick up movement of any kind, video cameras, and picture cameras

What are most investigations like?

Most investigations are not what you see on TV. It can be quiet and calm and seem like nothing has happened until you go through all the data you collected and something odd pops out. The hours can be long. You can have something happen at the beginning of the investigation, and then nothing else happen

I have been gifted with the ability to communicate and see spirits When I enter into an investigation, I can feel something is lurking, which in my case is normal. I know the spirit is just holding back, curious about why I am there and what I am doing They may not reveal or make themselves known right away It is also very common for activity to increase after I have been at a location and I do make property owners aware of it as well An investigation is a lot of research, a lot of data to comb through, and it’s completely free of charge!

What are some locations in P.E.I. you've investigated?

There are so many locations we have investigated over the years. We have investigated the top five most haunted places in P E I , which are in order from on to five, the coast of Northumberland, the Yeo House, the Scotchfort Cemetery, the West Point Lighthouse and Holland Cove We have done a number of residential and businesses as well in P.E.I. including Dalvay by the Sea, Fairholm Inn, Baba’s Lounge, Cedar’s Eatery, Dooleys and many more

What is the most convincing piece of evidence you've found?

There are so many convincing pieces of evidence it’s hard to choose, but one that really sticks out is when we were investigating a local business We were in the basement and I was standing in the doorway of a room taking a photo when I felt something on my back. I asked one of my team members to take a photo of me. In the photo, I am standing completely still and you can see my hair being pushed aside It was pretty cool

What advice would you have for someone interested in becoming a paranormal investigator?

I think the biggest thing for me if I were to give any advice, be mindful and respectful, always You don’t know who or what you may be dealing with. Be thorough with your evidence. Don’t assume.

Lisa Pink has been a ProTem Memory Care team member for 10 years.

Lisa started working as an RCW at ProTem in 2014. Prior to joining our team, she worked as a counsellor with autistic children and adults with intellectual disabilities, and then later in home care

It was her stint in home care that led her to ProTem The woman she worked with developed Alzheimer’s and had to move into a care home The woman ’ s daughter raved about ProTem and how it was the only care home she’d move her mother into Lisa did some research, liked what she saw and applied for a job It was a decision she’s glad she made

“You come to work, it’s always a good day,” she said “The residents are nice and this sounds kind of corny, but they do become family I can look at someone and say ‘that reminds me of my dad or that reminds me of my granddad,’ you do bond with them ”

Outside of work, Lisa enjoys spending time with her family and watching movies Her favourite movie currently is the film adaptation of Stephen King’s book “Doctor Sleep.”

MARKING MILESTONES

Every month we will be highlighting team members who've reached significant milestones with us.

Jincy Manoj has been an Andrews team member for nine years.

When Jincy started working at Andrews as a shift supervisor in 2015, she initially planned to get her RN license and then transfer to a hospital

However, as time went on she realized senior care was where she wanted to be She went on to become a nursing supervisor and eventually her current role of training coordinator for all of Andrews She’s now responsible for training new caregivers, developing training content, analyzing skill gaps and providing continuing education to staff

Throughout her tenure with Andrews, she always felt supported by leadership to pursue opportunities and grow in her career.

“Andrews supported me to enhance my leadership skills and proved to me that I could take on more responsibility,” she said. “I’ve worked in hospitals and I was just improving my skills but Andrews’ management and team members helped me to improve personally too which means a lot and I truly appreciate that.”
