DEBBIE TUNG
Debbie Tung has a simple and gentle message: your body is worthy of being treated with kindness and love at any size.
Illustrated in her unique personal style, Tung shares the experiences of her teenage years and how growing into a mature body combined with teenage angst, vulnerability, and the pressure on girls to be thin and pretty spiraled her into disordered eating. She became obsessed with exercising and dieting, but no matter how much weight she lost, it was never enough. She spent the next few years trying to heal her eating habits, learning about self-love, and finally making peace with her body.
My Perfectly Imperfect Body is her story and one she shares with many survivors of the thin-obsessed early-2000s. She hopes her gentle comics provide a safe space to rest on whichever healing journey you find yourself on as you read.

Chapter One: What’s Wrong with Being Confident?
In a day and age when women are still fighting for equal pay for equal (and sometimes—dare I say—better) work, it’s easy to see how we might have trouble with our self-esteem. After all, we’re still shaking off the side effects of hundreds of years of training to be seen but not heard, to serve but not be served. But thanks to modern feminism, women are again fighting back against the archaic, “traditional” idea that a woman’s role is to simply be an in-home cook, personal maid, and smiling living-room ornament—today, we women tackle work and play, motherhood and muscle, beauty and bossiness. After all, what better quality than bossiness is there for the accomplished bosses and leaders of the world?
Affirmation Station
And confidence is not a new feminine trait. In fact, it s been around for just as long as suppression has Look at anyone from the biblical Esther to France’s Joan of Arc and ask yourself whether they didn’t walk with their shoulders back and their heads held

high, even with the imited power afforded to them by their patriarchal societies. And they aren’t the only ones to take hold of power despite being looked down upon just for their gender After all, the longest-reigning British monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, happens to be both female and still on top, and the United Kingdom isn’t the only sovereign state to have had a woman in charge. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, who was elected President of Liberia in 2006, was Africa’s first elected chief executive—and when her term ended in 2018, she left her post peacefully and gave Liberia its first peaceful transition of power since 1944. And Ellen Johnson Sirleaf isn’t the only symbol for African women taking up the reins of democracy—women in Rwanda, although they still face terrible challenges, make up well over half of the Rwandan legislature. Women have ruled all over, from places like the pre-United States kingdom of Hawaii to Nigeria and Egypt to France and Spain to China, India, and Russia. They didn’t let the men (and even the other women) looking down on them keep them down.
NINA MONTENEGRO
For those striving to live more intentionally and with deeper self-compassion and calm, Worry Medicine is an invitation, a cairn to help us navigate the indecipherable trail of life. Readers who feel exhausted by the stress of their everyday will learn reliable practices to quiet their nighttime spiraling, soothe sensory overwhelm, and moor themselves when they feel out of control.
Developed by artist and ecological activist Nina Montenegro, the practices in this book range from guided meditations and grounding body movements to communing with nature, accessible art making, and time-tested rituals.
The Far Woods community is 92% women. 32% are between the ages 25-34, and 38% are between the ages 35-44. They are located from Portland to NYC, with at least 80% in the US, Canada, and the UK. These are folks who care deeply about the social and environmental justice issues that define our times, and as a result, they likely deal with anxiety.
With anxiety a ecting women at least twice as much as men, this book may appeal more to women than men, but it is for everyone. It will be relevant for teens and twenty-somethings who find themselves feeling hopeless or despairing about the future. Whatever the nature of the worry—whether it is health anxiety, eco-anxiety, parenting anxiety, anxiety about the past or future—there is something here for everyone. The stories Nina will include will be relatable. And though it will draw on wisdom from a wide array of spiritual traditions and teachers, it will be secular, making it even more available to a diversity of readers.
The pandemic may have spiked anxiety, but it also spurred important conversations around what wellness means, and the possibilities of “self-healing.” Our community/ audience is particularly interested in DIY culture, natural healing, plant wisdom, spirituality, and mending, so Worry Medicine, with its emphasis on practicing ways to self-soothe and explore our personal wisdom within, will be a natural fit.

WHAT FEELS GOOD RIGHT NOW?
Years ago, a good friend and I went on a 30 mile walk on the Solstice. During the walk, physical discomfort ebbed and flowed and we did our share of complaining at times about what hurt. At one point, though, my friend wisely suggested that we share what parts of our bodies were feeling good. Even though we had sore hips and feet, we acknowledged that our bellies were full, our minds clear, our spirits up. We talked about how our shared experience that day was deepening our friendship. Focusing on what was feeling good eased our discomforts. The same feels true at times of intense anxiety. When something feels like it is going wrong in our lives there are likely still many things going right, and we can refocus our minds there. Even if it is just that our basic needs are being met.
PRACTICE: Close your eyes and do a “body scan” from head to toe. Take an assessment of where you are feeling pain or holding tension. Then begin the scan again from head to toe, this time bringing attention to where your physical body feels comfortable and at ease in this moment. Which parts of your body are feeling nourished and content? Maybe you notice that your belly is full or that your skin feels hydrated. Or you notice there is no pain at all-- the absence of pain is such a gift.
PRACTICE: It is easy to slip into the tendency to focus on the parts of our life that are causing us pain- a wounded relationship with a family member, betrayal from a lover, disharmony in the workplace. But at the same time, there are usually things that are happening at the same time in our
