Bent Wood Public Installation

MSoA Studio Group Project (12 Members)

Using laminated bent SPF this 21ft structure was made using 9 laminations of alternating 7ft and 3ft pieces of 10mm wood bent over 3 custom jigs. The laminated members were then assembled without the use of artificial joinery through lap joints and mortis and tenon doweled together.

The concept renders were modeled off a sketch of the design in Rhino-7. The model was exported to Blender where it was textured, lit and rendered. The render was then brought into photoshop where it was placed onto an old photo of the site along with human references.

01

Light Wood Framing Study

This 3D model of a light wood framed miners cottage was an exploration of the construction techniques used in these types of buildings. The project was done to further understand the construction techniques in light wood framing and practice accurate 3d modeling in a non artistic context.

02

Ristinkirkko Axo (Church Of The Cross)

Exploded axonometric drawing

This analytical drawing was done of the building, Church of the Cross in Lahti, Finland. The goal of this project was to create a drawing that could be used to pull dimensions using axonometric perspective. The drawing was done on a 24”x 36” piece of vellum.

1980 BMW M1

This piece was made to test my 3D modeling skills in Blender, where I challenged myself to recreate a 1980 BMW M1. This sports car presented a unique set of complex angles, curves, and details that tested my abilities and pushed me to learn new modeling techniques. Using a blueprint of the car’s design found on the internet I was able to create an accurate model of the car with a high level of detail. In tackling this project, I was able to practice the workflow of a larger, more complex project and learn new 3D tools.

Coyote in Diner

Post Processing Practice

Modeled, textured, and rendered in Blender where it was then exported to DaVinci Resolve where it was colour graded. This project was done to practice improving the render quality of my work while practicing lighting and composition of a scene with more objects.

05

Flying Fishing Boat

This piece was done to experiment with texture painting and complex form modeling. The texture painting is done on the hull of the ship, illustrating multiple layers of dirt, grime, scratches, and rust all manually painted onto the model. The shape of the boat was modeled in Blender based on a quick sketch of what I imagined it would look like.
