Cocktail reception and private dining venues We have collated a list of 29 venues for you to entertain clients and associates in Atlanta. The travelling times suggested are based on those from The Georgia World Congress Centre GWCC. We feel with so many events on, it’s important that yours is memorable, all of these suggested are that in one way or another and are suitable for one or both of the following styles of event. All the venues listed are coded with the following to assist in their selection.

• A cocktail reception. (RCPTN) typically 150-200 people would be invited, 100 or so will reply, with around potentially 50-75 turning up. Over a two hour period, a probable flow-through of around 3040 at any one time. Wine, beer, soft & drinks rather than an open bar, plus canapés or a small buffet.

• Private dining & hosted meals. (PD)- a separate area within a restaurant away from the general public for you to entertain your associates. We find that this is becoming more attractive, as those invited feel this is a proper show of appreciation and you get to interact on a more personal level.

Smaller multiple events can also help with any conflict of interest between guests. Many venues have semi-private areas which retain the atmosphere created with other guests, but are secluded enough to prevent eavesdropping.

AG Modern Bar and Steakhouse link

PD This is to be found in the Ritz Carlton Hotel Downtown Atlanta. It is a top quality steakhouse with leather booth seating in the main restaurant. There are two private areas. Located in Downtown Atlanta, 4 minutes by taxi, or a 12 minute walk from GWCC. • The Distillery- For mixologist experiences, up to 12 guests • The Kitchen- a long thin private dining room off the main restaurant, seating for 10 guests.

Aria Link

PD An elegant fine dining restaurant serving modern American food, known for its top quality wines.

They are only open for dinner, not lunch. The Balcony is a tented outdoor space for private dining, with a brick floor and surrounded by topiary. The capacity is 20 on round tables with up to 8 people on each. This is located in the plush suburb of Buckhead a 17 minute drive by taxi from GWCC

Ariel Kitchen & Bar Link

RCPTN/ PD A simple pool-side kitchen/ cafe with open sides, on the 9th floor Sky Terrace, at the Epicurean Atlanta Autograph Collection, a new culinary themed hotel. Ariel has a capacity of 30 people at any one time. This venue is alfresco and casual, with a roof, but it is open on two sides. There are other high-rise buildings around this, but also views of the city from one end. This is in a vibrant Midtown location, about 7 minutes by taxi from GWCC. Ariel Kitchen is most suited to a small and casual cocktail reception or a casual private dining experience 20-30 guests.

The other side of the kitchen is their Sky Terrace, a large open area with unrestricted sweeping views of the city, which is especially suitable for sunset events, max 250 people.

Much of this is lawn, but with tables and parasols, at the far end is built-in upholstered curved stone seating, a fire pit and planted flower beds. The back-up for inclement weather would be the Grand Cru Ballroom and Terrace.

The Sky Terrace Fire Pit is located at the end of lawns and this section can be rented individually, it will accommodate 150 max.

Atlas Link

RCPTN/ PD A top quality restaurant in the prestigious St Regis Buckhead Hotel. They have a Michelin Star, the cuisine is American, but the menu is constantly changing, sometimes daily as well as on a weekly basis. This is located in the plush suburb of Buckhead a 19 minute drive by taxi from GWCC. • Papillon – a small private dining room for 8 guests, charmingly adorned with hundreds of blue butterflies. Bacchanalia Link

PD A fine dining restaurant, with a Michelin Star, one of only five in Atlanta. The decor is industrial chic and the cuisine contemporary American. The Bar Area can be booked for a semi private dining event, its capacity is 20. It is located a 10 minute taxi drive from GWCC.

Blue Ridge Grill Link

Inspired by the Blue Ridge Mountains, the decor is like a cosy wood cabin. Despite this almost gimmicky theme, this is fine dining and with a dress code too. Downstairs of the main restaurant is The Wine Room, with curtains for closing off multiple sections, offering semi-private dining for 8 to 45 guests. Bones Steakhouse Link

PD Established in 1979 and rated Atlanta’s number one steak house by OpenTable. This formal restaurant has a traditional and sober dark wood décor, with a number of private dining rooms. Not only famous for its steak and seafood, but also their extensive wine cellar. This is perhaps a more interesting option than the large national steakhouse chains? Bones is located to the north and near to the upmarket Buckhead suburb, a 19 minute ride by taxi from GWCC. A very popular nationwide chain of fine dining restaurants, Well known for their steaks and extensive wine selection.

5Church Midtown Link

RCPTN/PD This is a hip restaurant and bar, with various areas for events. Their Roof Top Patio has indoor and outdoor seating, the reception capacity is up to 200. Despite the name’s suggestion, it is not a highrise venue, as the terrace is only on the first floor (second floor- US description) overlooking Atlanta’s Peach Street. This has a dedicated bar and plenty of lounge-style seating. The Buffalo room on the ground floor is semi-private dining area (not fully closed off) and can hold up to 50 for a meal.

Cooks and Soldiers Link

RCPTN/ PD A stylish and good quality west Midtown restaurant, focused on Basque food, with Pintxo their equivalent of tapas and Asador a wood fired grill. It is an 8 minute drive by taxi from GWCC. • Enclosed terrace- with a wall of windows, adjacent to the main dining room, it can be open or sealed depending on the weather, capacity up to 50 seated with various table configurations possible, or for 72 as a cocktail reception. City Winery

Link RCPTN/ PD Popular and lively for wine enthusiasts, but with an equal emphasis on food and live music. It is part of the Ponce City Market complex in Midtown, about 10 minutes by taxi from GWCC. The Winery is best known as a live music venue with a basement concert hall, but there are also a number of smaller spaces for rent. Naturally there is a focus on sampling their own wines at any event held here.

Barrel room restaurant - a bottle lined restaurant on the ground floor, seated for a meal the capacity is 120-140, or a cocktail reception 200- 300 people Concert Hall- a dark low ceiling basement room, with a long stage, for music and comedy shows, more suitable for evenings and big events, capacity 400 The Nook - private dining for up to 28, or for a cocktail reception for 28-40. Patio - an urban outdoor terrace at the front of the building, on a tree lined street with patio tables and parasols, capacity 150 for a cocktail reception Tasting room - a bar for wine tasting, located downstairs, private dining for up to 20, or a cocktail reception for 80.

College Football Hall of Fame Link

RCPTN Perhaps more relevant to US firms than international ones? This large establishment has three possible areas to host a cocktail reception: The Playing field, 45 yards of indoor pitch with a goal, this can accommodate 1300 people; The Quad, their main lobby with a wall of helmets and a capacity of 600, plus The Rotunda a circular room with displays of famous players, that can accommodate 300.

The Hall of Fame is located within the Luckie Marietta District, next to The Centennial Olympic Park and a block away across the railroad tracks from the GWCC, probably within a walkable distance for most of your guests?

Drawbar at Bellyard Link

RCPTN/ PD Drawbar roof top bar and lounge at the boutique Bellyard Hotel, Marriott’s Tribute Portfolio. The Bellyard is located about 7 minutes south of the GWCC by taxi. This is part of The Interlock, a new development with both quality restaurants, residential and commercial elements. The Drawbar’s Outdoor Terrace, with views of the city’s skyscrapers. There are sofas, chairs and tables, the capacity for a reception here is 90. PLEASE NOTE - We are waiting on clarification, as some images now show this with a corrugated roof and open sides, so it may have been altered since its orginal fully open-air layout?

The indoor element of Drawbar is rectangular, with industrial style polished concrete floors, but with lots of simple and plush furniture, the capacity in the bar is 100 for a reception. The Drawbar can be sectioned off for private dining or smaller receptions. With The Drawbar Den it can accommodate 30 seating in rounds and the Drawbar Living Room can accommodate 35 seating in rounds.

In addition, there is a charming Courtyard Garden, with birch trees, plenty of casual seating, dominated by a wall-long colourful mural, the capacity for a reception here is 100 people.

Ecco Midtown Link A fine dining restaurant offering modern European food and small estate wines. Back in 2006 it was voted America’s best new restaurant and is one of the most renown in the south east.

They have a private dining area, One side can curtained off from the main restaurant, offering various table configurations for 20-55 guests.

Georgia Aquarium link

RCPTN Many possibilities here, for very a large event their lobby or ballroom, both of which have large viewing windows onto the aquariums. In addition, the smaller Arctic and Atlantic rooms can both hold 200 for a reception, plus Ocean Voyager their glass tunnel which also has the capacity for 200.

Banqueting services are provided by Wolfgang Puck. The venue’s location is very close, only about a two minute walk from GWCC.

Illuminarium Link

RCPTN This is a very unusual venue, your guests would have a totally memorable visit. This is an indoor immersive 3d experience, that projects 360 views, sounds and smells of various places around the world onto the theatre’s walls. The main themes for group events are an African safari, Tokyo night market, Mediterranean garden, beneath the ocean, but there are other themes.

These two blank rectangular halls can be set up for a variety of events. The smallest of the two theatre (Illuminarium 1) is 2000 sq ft, but the reception/ party area can be reduced with the use of a bar, tables & chairs etc, to make it more cosy and suitable for smaller numbers. A top quality classic steakhouse with a French twist and an impressive wine list. For an unusual and vibrant event, Marcel’s Boxing Table can be reserved for up to 16 guests.

This table is located along the back wall of the bar area, with a leather banquette, tall leather chairs and antique hand gilded mirrors. The Boxing Table provides an intimate seating arrangement in the midst of the lively zinc topped bar section.

Murphy’s Restaurant Link

Located in Virginia Highland, a charming, historic neighbourhood and a premiere destination for shopping, dining and nightlife. This is 14 minutes by taxi from GWCC. Mujō is a one star Michelin rated restaurant, focusing on Edomae-style sushi-ya. They have a very small a Private Dining Experience for only six people surrounding a sushi counter.

Mujō is 9 minutes away by taxi from GWCC. PLEASE NOTE- It is very popular and hard to get a booking, reservations open up on the first day of the proceeding month and fill up quickly. So you need to plan ahead if you wish to eat here.

Nikolai’s Roof Link

RCPTN Perched atop The Hilton Atlanta with panoramic views of the city, offering fine dining. Come for the views, but stay for indulgences like house-infused flavoured vodkas and quality caviar. The are no private dining rooms here, but you can hold a cocktail reception. Optimist Atlanta Link

RCPTN/ PD A contemporary seafood restaurant, with vegetarian and vegan options. Housed in a former hamaging house. This is located 5 minutes north by taxi from the GWCC. There are a couple of options: • The Oyster Bar Private dining room- bright and light with a very simple décor and some built in wall seating. This is a small separate room off the side of the bar and main restaurant. For private dining events it can accommodate 18 on two parallel tables, with a curtain to cut it off from the bar. • Private dining in the main restaurant- hidden behind the long bar from the main dining room, it can be curtained off at each end for more privacy, with seating for 19-30. The ROOF at Ponce City Market Link

RCPTN Located on the edge of Midtown Atlanta, Ponce City Market is a large mixed-use development in a historic building, a former Sears Roebuck catalogue warehouse and amusement park. The décor is shabby chic, industrial with some fairground elements thrown in. For events The ROOF is the main entertainment area of the complex and has views of The Atlanta Skyline, Buckhead, Downtown and Midtown. This is about 11 minutes by taxi from GWCC. There are a number of event venues you can use on this top level: • Skyline Park - a open air carnival theme with old-time boardwalk activities such as an 18-hole Mini Golf course, Heege Tower, a three-story slide, a full bar and carnival-style food. The event area can be reduced down for smaller receptions, max capacity 500. Image top left.

• Roof Top Terrace - an outdoor space, but with a tented area that can accommodate all your guests. The event area can be reduced to accommodate a smaller cocktail reception.

RDF Social - lots of character, this occupies the market’s iconic tower and is a multi-level indoor space. It is a large relaxed lobby and the theme is of a prohibition bar. There are leather seats and sofas for lounging around, a pool table, vintage parlour games, as well as café style tables & chairs, a large meeting space, two conference rooms, a catering kitchen, and bar. It can be split up into the Roebuck Room or Parlour, depending on your predicted flow-through and max attendee numbers? It is ideal for a small to medium cocktail reception. Capacity 150

St Cecelia Link

PD A very slick and stylish top quality restaurant serving food inspired by Italy, Spain and France. Their Balcony Dining Area is on the first floor with tall windows along three sides, with the fourth side overlooking the main dining room, but this can be closed off with a curtain. There is also an independent sound system for this area. For a semi or private dining event, the capacity is up to 15.

TWO Uban Licks Link

RCPTN/ PD A stylish casual bar and restaurant, often with live Blues music, interesting smoked cuisine and what they consider to be an ‘edgy atmosphere’, well it’s very stylish in an industrial way. It is large, but has been described as feeling quite cosy, clearly lots of character. There are three interesting areas suitable for cocktail receptions and private dining. This is ten minutes taxi ride from the GWCC .

RCPTN/PD There are many options for events here, but we have picked out the smaller venues that we feel are probably the most suitable. The zoo is located 11 minutes south east by taxi from the GWCC. • The Terrace- at Savanna Hall, a recently upgraded neo-classical building. The terrace is a very formal and is a classically proportioned dual level space overlooking the historic Grant Park.

It can accommodate 300 for a cocktail reception. Image above right.

• Savanna Vista- an outdoor pavilion, elephants on one side, with giraffes and other African species on the other. Private dining for up to 40 people, or 50-60 for a cocktail reception.

Image bottom right • Takameda gorilla deck- an outdoor space, especially suited to an evening under the stars, for a cocktail reception it can hold 100. You can add on talks and Q&A sessions with the gorilla keepers. Image left.
