About the piece Ascent for concert band represents the glorious call of duty that lives in the hearts, minds, and spirit of the brave men and women of our Nation’s military forces, first responders, and local heroes who protect us from harm’s way. Ascent memorializes their steadfast courage, noble humanity, and honorable service.
About the composer Harnessing the chugging sounds of contemporary postmodernism, Andres Luz derives his compositional idiom from the legacy of music history stretching back to medieval stylistic techniques, up to those of the present day. Mr. Luz is currently completing the Master of Music Composition at the University of Redlands, studying with Anthony Suter.
