THE SCHWEIKHER HOUSE
PAUL SCHWEIKHER, 1938

Originally completed in 1938 on the rural edge of Chicago, the Schweikher House has had multiple iterations in its time. For my renders I chose to focus on capturing it as accurately as possible to when it was completed, making only small changes to the landscaping and bringing colour into the picture to highlight the sophisticated material choices of the simple yet elegant form.
002
With this render I used a newer reference photograph as this space was mainly unchanged other than the table and chairs. Here I took some creative liberty in the furniture choice, opting for a coffee table and rendering it as a space with a calmatmospherewhereawarm drink can be enjoyed. In order to create this I used one point perspective framing and warm colour grading to give the image a cosy intimate feeling and then emphasised the narrative with the items on the table.

Similarly to the previous render I again tried to create this cosy pleasant atmosphere, through my editing choices and my framing. This render used an image from when the house was complete, however I did make one slight alteration which was the addition of the lights on the back wall.
004
For this render I did not have a reference image from the house itself instead I used images of similar scenes to aid the development of this one.
Just as with the day shots with this one I was trying to tell the story of a family enjoying an evening by the fireplace.

BETON BRUT THE gRID ARCHITECTS, 2022
006
For my renders of Beton Brut, I really wanted to capture the rawnatureofitssimplematerial palette focusing on getting the light to play on the surfaces, accentuating them, and specifically giving the concrete a warmer more human feeling. In this render I also removed the statue as it was drawing attention away from the building

My framing for this shot was inspired by the image above. WhatIlikedaboutitwastheway in which it showed the forms overlapping, however whilst playing around with the camera in 3ds, I found myself more drawn to this angle as I felt it captured this aspect better.

Here I was again trying to bring life into the render introducing a narrative with the mother and daughter arriving home and the cat lounging on the grass. As well as this I was again focusing on the light and the shadows it was creating on the surfaces to really emphasise that tactile shuttered concrete.

PROJECT DOMUS
STIJN JONCKHEERE, 2012
010
This set of images was based entirely on the piece of art above by Stijn Jonckheere. Due to not having any reference for materials I was able to really be creative with these renders and chose to envision the structure as an abandoned industrial complex when choosing my materials. Reference

The story I wanted to tell with these renders is that of discovery, so when choosing my framing I focused on having the structure being peered at through the nature surrounding it and partially hiding it with the trees to draw the audience in. Secondary to this was the idea of emulating visuals from a drone stumbling upon this placeandthiscanbeseeninthe previous image as well as my short film HUSK, linked in the films section of this portfolio.

This final image sees the people that were operating the drone standing at the break in the forest admiring their discovery. Mymaingoalwiththisimagewas to frame it in such a way that it reallyshowshowthenatureand forest is swallowing this place uphidingit, andclaimingitback.
