EMBROIDERY For iteration, I tried to explore making new textures by using embroidery. Here I created a print inspired by the oil-like pattern of my colour research.

PRINT MAKING Based on my alter-ego works I also tried screen printing to create patterns using the shapes from the collage portrait “Punctuation�.

This was a very interesting approach to creating patterns but I felt it did not represent my colour and alter-ego research as much as I wanted it to.

SMOC KING & PLEATS Trying multiple techniques on how to go about making a 3D object I then took inspiration from the “Two-Face� collage portrait and decided to explore pleating and smocking. Here I discovered that when fabric is manipulated you achieve a different texture on each side of the fabric.

A N A LY S I S With iteration I opened myself up to more experimentation and trying many different techniques as I was unsure about which would best represent my research. Initially I thought very basic about my project and thought about creating a tote bag with punctuation marks.

I instantly scrapped this idea when I developed my first smocking sample and thought I would take the challenge of sewing everything by hand.

I started by collaging different samples of smocking together. With feedback from peers and more experimentations making bigger samples I ended up creating a reversible coat. It is best described as a 3D collage of fabric manipulated black felt and white polyester fabric.

The repeated patterns creates a new texture and brings the garment to life. Tying it all together this garment is like my alter-ego in the sense that you can see two different sides.

The silhouette is a simple box shape when laid flat is like a two dimensional collage but when worn is a wearable garment.

SERIES is a personal mission to consciously create fashion.

Mainly a reflection of myself and my current state of learning about sustainability and what fashion means to the world.

Inspired by the idea of "everything in moderation". Aspiring to make genderneutral and adaptable wearable pieces.

This series was all about experimentation. I explored repurposing and zero-waste concepts into my designs. In one way or another I would like this series to be the starting point for a new path on sustainable fashion and for it to start a conversation on how we can create and consume more responsibly.

Retroella is a modern day fairytale about a young woman dreaming of her past, present and future. Taken inspiration from the definition of Cinderella; something that is ignored but deserves attention.

I experimented on hand weaving excess/scrap fabrics to create a new textured material which adds a unique detail to a simple silhouette.

It is often that what is indigenous in the Philippines are stereotyped to be for traditional costumes. This for me was a challenge to go the unconventional route and showcase these materials.

I took most of the inspiration from the woven fabrics and created looks that cater to the modern style today. The representation of retro is seen in most silhouettes and of course the pop of color.

LOOK ST YLE AWARDS 2016 TOP 10 FINALIST

BENCH LOVE LOCAL AWARDEE 2016

Inspired by the modern Filipina, Lopa, the winner of the Bench #LoveLocal Award, used a button-down polo shirt and blue denim skirt. She reworked the polo into a reversible blouse, and reversed the skirt, turning the back zipper into a slit.

Incorporating indigenous woven materials into the outfit resulted in a look that “represents my aesthetic and style, and celebrates the handmade craft of Filipino weavers,” she says. “My design aesthetic is all about conscious clothes that can adapt and have sustainable impact.”
