• Name a person, place, or an object is called a concrete noun. • Mary, man, street, book, desk.

• A noun used to name a quality or an idea is called an abstract noun. • Accuracy, duty, and responsibility.

• A common noun is one that is common to all the persons, places, or objects in a group. • A proper noun is the name of a particular person, place, or object in a group.

• Each noun in a proper noun group begins with a capital. • Washington Street, Independence Square, Industrial Building

• north, south, east, and west, are uesed to name directions are not capitalized. • When these words are used to name regions, however, they become proper nouns and are capitalized.

• Always capitalize the names of the days of the week and of the months of the year.
