Interior Design Studio 3: This is a retail oriented studio and the two projects are related. The second will build upon the work completed in the first.

About the Project.

Part A: Research the client assigned to you in the first class session. The purpose of this research is to develop a design concept related to the brand assigned. Students may find inspiration in the history, products or users of the brand that they have been assigned. We will then develop a concept statement or phrase that will serve as a vehicle to develop a conceptual model. After we complete the conceptual models, we will use the ideas we have begun to develop to create new diagrammatic models that will be more than simply a manifestation of the conceptual idea.

Part B: The second and final project of the quarter will involve the design of a two level commercial retail space which will include but will not be limited to needs for: product sales area and a repair/fabrication area. You will each work with a specific client and will have a real site with real limitations. The scope of the project includes the design, layout and presentation of the interior space design.

Sustainability and relationship of the brand with the environment expressed in the space.

Create an open and airy layout that encourages a sense of space and minimizes the need for excess lightning.

Arrange merchandise displays to allow easy circulation Use of sustainable materials like concrete, wood and bamboo. Include interactive elements to educate customers about the brand’s sustainability efforts.

Dynamic and flowing abstract model with organic curves that represent the natural flow and movement of snow, water and air.

Concept Models.

Abstract Eco-Pathway that servess as the backbone of the store’s design and customer experience.

Two-level model representing flow and organic curves to layout an open space.

Two-level model where the purpose is to have a backbone in the center of the whole space.
