elements are more than agents of change (metals melt with heat; water is a component of concrete) but as design materials in themselves.
the ancient philosophers argued for them as the basic building blocks of the world, and when designed in great quantity –they would be amazingly therapeutic landscapes.
to immerse oneself in a particular primal element –any of them used individually –would be a transformative experience.

the application of the elements into the concept design:
fire as energy injects life, processes, and transformation into the inanimate world of matter, and this into the world of architecture.
waters that flow are an indication of direction with a clear sense of coming from and coming to, and this helps our bodies be oriented in space.
absent of other perceptions, the experience of earth brings forth sensations of stability, and stillness, and allowing centering to occur.
as a building material, air is felt as a physical substance and its tendency to flow freely can direct design that increases human comfort naturally. from the innovative use of materials by caren yglesias.
