EVERYDAY I WEAR FLOS

The bourgeois jacket

FLOREAL STRUCTURES

EVERYDAY I WEAR FLOS.
Brief: imagining a collaboration between Flos, an interior design brand, and Sunnei, a fashion brand
In this group project, after researching the core values of each brand, we narrowed down the elements from which to draw design inspiration and designed a collection. We then brought one of the outfits to life, creating the shirt, pants, and jacket you see on the left.

RESEARCH
The goal was to find elements in Flos’ famous interior design pieces that could be reinterpreted with Sunnei’s signature style. As a result, the Moodboard was a literal intersection of these two worlds.

RESEARCH

The inspiration came from the design of four Flos lamps: Skynest, Arco, Chiara and Gatto.

FABRICS
The fabrics were chosen to mimic the texture of interior design objects, so they are mostly synthetic and have a smooth feel. In addition, they are all deadstock fabrics sourced from Como, Italy.

COLLECTION
The collection was divided into sections, each with specific colors and shapes, depending on the lamp that inspired the outfits.

Personally, I got inspired by the Gatto lamp and drew these outfits

This is the final look created, inspired by the Chiara lamp

MODEL: CHIARA_1
FABRICS: Tela Kemira x Grosjane, Rybangel & Nylon FABRIC USAGE: Tela Kemira x Grosjane 1,5 mt, Rybangel 1,5 mt & Nylon 1 mt
DESCRIPTION
The jacket has a cilindric shape to mimic the construction of the Chiara lamp by Flos . The border in Nylon recreates the same design that is peculiar to the lamp. As the lamp, the jacket is also costumizable by the one who wears it: the hood can be opened and by just opening or closing the buttons on the front the jacket aquires a very dufferent look. Inside, a metallic material is used to replicate the material of the lamp.

After a long and detailed research on the history and characteristics of the brand, the theme chosen for this hypothetical collection is Floreal structures. Technology, metallic details, reflections and mirrors meet Valli’s iconic flowers in their most futuristic manifestations.

SURFACE Brief: designing patterns imagining a collaboration between Versace and a surf brand
Definition of surface
1. The outline of a body, a boundary between the external space and the space occupied by the body itself.
2. Appearance, exteriority: stopping at the s.; without delving into causes.
There are surfaces that remain empty contours and others that contain the key to going beyond appearance. The focus of the project is the dualism between exteriority and interiority, surface and hidden meaning of things within the world of surfing and Versace. Exteriority shines through the sinuous, flowing shapes of a Versace dress or a surfer’s wave. Interiority is the meaning hidden in a symbol like Versace’s “greca” or the decoration on a surfboard.

RESEARCH
The research focused on the style and legacy of Versace and the history of surfing and its main characteristics. The goal was to find similarities between these two worlds.

MOODBOARD AND PALETTE

Fluidity, Symbology and Sinuosity.

CONTATTO

Touch is the first sense we acquire, even before sight, smell, hearing, and taste. Physical contact creates emotions, synapses that alter our brain chemistry. In our daily lives, we use the word “touching” to describe something that affects us strongly on an emotional level. Deprivation of touch, on the other hand, especially in the early stages of life, has been shown to alter an individual’s biochemistry and have long-lasting side effects. This project aims to explore the positive and negative effects of touch and its deprivation through the study of textures inspired by these two sensory worlds.

RESEARCH
The research began by exploring different sensations related to the sense of touch. One aspect is the feeling of security that can be provided by a comforting hug or a friendly touch, represented by soft, thick textures, and shapes that tend to embrace the body, along with bright, warm colors. On the other hand, the research also focused on rough textures that are uncomfortable to the touch, such as fabrics that are thin and unstable, rather than thick and reliable. There is a visual reference to ice, so cold and dark colors were used to mimic the sensation of touch deprivation.
TEXTURES
The study examined textures that varied in thickness and transparency to represent different sensory experiences. The samples were created using double bed knitting machines of varying gauges, with some being manually knit and others electronically programmed and knit.
