A network of pathways guides users through diverse natural landscapes while redirecting motorized traffic to enhance tranquility within the park.

On the left bank of the Schelde river in Antwerp, a green area is connected to central Antwerp via the Sint Anna tunnel and the Linkeroever ferry. Currently cut in two by a major road, the site has scattered green spaces Linkeroever groen aims to merge these areas into a cohesive green oasis within the city. By adding communal squares and extending city axes into the green area, the project blends urban and green spaces while showcasing Antwerp‘s skyline. With three entrances along infrastructure, the park encourages exploration and community engagement. By enhancing vegetation, the project creates varied experiences within the park

PLANTING CONCEPT

To ensure a lush and green character of the left bank in the future, the planting concept aims to support existing vegetation around the created path loop, leaving the heart of the park open. At entering points row trees shift in a common direction towards the riverfront. The implementation of wet

meadows, high meadows and the expansion of wetlands lead to a higher variety of biotops and habitats for many plant and animal species.

MATERIAL CONCEPT

Within the area urban functions are accumulating around the entrances. In these areas hard surfaces allow various activities to happen, such as large gatherings or bike workshops. Meanwhile the majority of the area consists of green and permeable surfaces providing a sustainable development to climate changes in the future. The implementation of

boardwalks makes it possible for the user to reach nature safely without damaging or disturbing soil, flora and fauna.

This project is focused on the reconnection of the town and the waterfront and transformation of an industrial harbour into a socially sustainable area with mixed-use and integrated sea level rise protection Inspired by the scale of medieval town and the industrials materials, shapes and elements.

Collaborating closely with Guldborgsund Municipality, we‘ve crafted a comprehensive proposal to transform Nykøbing Falster. Our design focuses on revitalizing the harbor area and rejuvenating the Tingsted Å surroundings.

Our approach involves three key strategies:

1. Medieval and Industrial Heritage

2. Landscape Integration

3. Climate Adaptation

By synthesizing these strategies, our proposal aims to create a vibrant, resilient, and culturally rich urban space for Nykøbing Falster.

MATERIALS

Embracing the ethos of reuse, we breathe vitality into steel, wood, and other materials, transforming them into architectural marvels. Each beam, each panel, tells a story of resilience and adaptability, weaving together a narrative of sustainability. The aim was to improve landscape qualitites

The concept includes enhancing water detention and retention, and adding natural playground elements for children‘s development. Additionally, the project aimed to boost local tourism and recreation within the protected area. Water management improvements were made to enhance ecological sustainability and biodiversity.

The proposed solution is based on minimalistic construction solutions due to an existing tree vegetation and its root zone value.

Material solution takes into consideration giver environmental conditions proving occasional flooding in the location. For a long term durability of the wooden sidewalks was proposed the oak wood as a main material. Considering its suitability to the humid or wet environment and resilience in heavy rain events Larch was proposed as an alternative solution, performing similar abilities.

In the new housing areas on Refshaleøen, we seize an opportunity to reimagine urban living by integrating dense developments with biodiverse environments. Water, a defining feature of Refshaleøen, holds potential as a distinct element in future urban landscapes. Focused on “Delområde 7,” our proposal introduces experimental housing and public spaces aligned with the site’s natural elements, fostering a vibrant atmos-

phere for residents and visitors. Our innovative approach, including diverse housing typologies and communal spaces, promotes strong communities and recreational experiences intertwined with nature. By preserving Refshaleøen’s wild character, we enrich biodiversity and safeguard its unique qualities for generations to come.

Many people love living close to the water.

- The water is alluring, but also dangerous!

Floodings and cloud burst, will be common in the future, and we need to develop new typologies, where buildings can be floating, stand on pillars or the water levels completely controlled.

Implementation of the Biophilic cities principles in this project prioritizes integrating nature into urban landscapes, fostering connections between people and the natural world.

Parks, green spaces, and urban forests abound, promoting biodiversity and enhancing well-being. Sustainable design principles ensure cities harmonize with their surroundings, creating healthier, more livable environments for all.
