For more than 40 years, I have made it my life’s work to seek out the most picturesque parcels of land in the world; places of rare natural beauty, where lives can be transformed, enriched and limitless in possibility.

I have truly loved and lived the beauty of Hawai’i for decades, experiencing its magic firsthand, transfixed by its wonder. Upon laying eyes on this breathtaking land along the western shore, I saw a fresh canvas on which to paint the memories of a lifetime; a backdrop on which legacies could be drawn.

Pali Kai offers a select few an entirely new, organic living experience, a rare freedom to set the course for your life, a chance to live amidst the most perfect climate conditions in the world. It’s a place for those seeking a mindful connection with nature and a never-before-seen level of privacy, space and serenity—rare commodities in the modern world. Hawai’i is believed to be the first island Polynesian voyagers set foot on 1,500 years ago, finding the western shore to be a welcoming one, with fertile land, ideal climate conditions and calm waters for fishing. No other region on the island is more steeped in history and cultural heritage than the Kona Coast, chosen as the main site of royal residence for the ancient ali’i chiefs. Umi-a-Liloa united the island of Hawai’i under one rule in the late 15th century, moving the seat of power to Kona, where it would remain for hundreds of years.

AN ENDURING EMBLEM

History

In 1779, Captain James Cook and his men would sail into Kealakekua Bay, the site of his death at the hands of warriors one year later. It would become one of the most visited ports of the late 18th century; one marked today with a white stone monument in Cook’s honor. The surrounding Kona Coast, which was divided into separate chiefdoms, would become the site where Kamehameha I fought to create one unified Hawaiian kingdom.

Hawai’i’s greatest and most beloved monarch would later settle his court at Kailua-Kona.

History

In the 1820s, the first missionaries arrived in Kailua-Kona and planted coffee, an ideally suited crop for Kona’s volcanic soil and temperate climate. Other westerners would follow, introducing cattle and planting sugar, bananas, pineapple, macadamia nuts and avocados. In the great land division of 1848, Kamehameha III and his chiefs granted small property awards, later selling thousands of acres of government land to Hawaiians and foreigners. Over the years, the Kona Coast’s historic sites, cultural landmarks and recorded past have been carefully preserved, much like the land surrounding Pali Kai, which has maintained its grandeur, beauty and serenity for centuries.
